I have always said it that the number of Pull Him/Her Down syndrome (PHD's) holders in Nigeria is very high.
You see people trying to discredit every good and wonderful thing from the other person just because of hate. Everybody (almost everybody) attack everything destructively. Hardly will you see a genuine constructive criticism.
Imagine people are down here attacking a film bought by a multi-billion dollar worldwide film streaming platform... And to even hear some say "Netflix is overrated" even sickens me the more... These are people who don't know the difference between a Netflix Original and other movies on Netflix. So since Netflix decided to come to Nollywood and to Genevieve Nnaji, Netflix is now overrated abi? In a certain Governors voice I say "This is Iberiberism of the highest order!"

With their myopic reviewing, they are forming over Sabi and "thinking" for Netflix cos they are wiser than Netflix and her Board of directors..., they have already concluded that #LionheartTheMovie has no story line... even when world renowned news platforms like CNN and BBC has talked about the movie and places it on the HIGH?
Some even say it's predictable but at the same time, keep ask in anger why Osuofia had to gate crash into a particular scene... OK, since you said it's predictable, why then didn't it happen your way probably the discussion should have been done in the open so that Osuofia can see them easily... But they forget that in real life, God can make u wander about just to meet your destiny helper in the least place that you can ever imagine? No nah! they can't see that because in their lives, everything is perfect! Nonsense! Like seriously it's very pathetic!

People are here (including all those greedy, wicked and jealous filmmakers) talking what I don't know but a whole New York Times has tagged this film the best from Nollywood.
It's very funny and indeed extremely pathetic!
One thing about this life is that you will always have people who will talk and gossip NONSENSE about your SENSE! But these people have never produced any thing that is overwhelming and that is if they have ever produced anything.
But the truth still remains that, #LionheartTheMovie by Genevieve Nnaji is still the best thing to happen to Nollywood and the entire African movie industry... It is a standard for other films and filmmakers in both Nollywood and Africa as a whole. It's a standard that they should all look up to for progress of they want to go global... (Although I am still a fan/activist of having a One Movie Industry in the whole of Africa and calling it Nollywood. Imagine the AMVCA's being an African Academy Award instead of just a viewers choice award?)

If I were all these filmmakers, I will throw away nonsense pride and go and genuinely congratulate Genevieve Nnaji and beg her to teach me and then I would bend down obediently and learn from her because:
1) She is the face of African Cinema, she is Nollywood's Sweetheart and now Nollywood's Lionheart! Lol!

2) She is global and there is absolutely nothing anybody can do about it.

3) Her movie and production/directing is global. You can rate it anyhow you want to rate it, it's your business and not that of Netflix, CNN, BBC, New York Times, etc. and

4) She has made Nollywood global!
These are facts!

You all have a nice day and let's all delete envy and jealously from our life and timeline! Because, e no day pay gan!

Sonsogo!!!
All you said are correct thumb up

The movie cinematography is well on point, I applaud her for promoting the innoson vehicles, but the story was not solid enough, some scences were just not it, how will nkem owoh talk to an auditor like that, slap the bank MD. The story is lame with all due respect. A classic movie is October 1st.

Your opinion. Which recognized movie review company you work for, by the way?

The movie is mostly being reviewed by her own people who share innate amount of hate towards each other.
Neflix buys contents, it does make no much difference from other works from Africa, even at that, her work hasn't yet been rated a top 5 among other classics in Nigeria, much less.
No tribe could be jealous of Igbo works since they are just a replica of many other successful works which other tribes have achieved before theirs.

It is not just only in movies but almost every other thing. And if you look at what these so called criticizers produce, it is total crap way below mediocre.

That's why Easterners should continue tapping on there creative capacity both in arts and Media, in science, technology, research and development. The world have started recognising our talents.

We have all the ingredients to be outstanding in this 21st century.
Kudos to Genevieve Nnaji!!!! and others like her!!!!

South West hardly promote anything good about Igbo made goods, they coined the word 'Aba made, Igbo made' to discredit the goods of Igbos still reeling from the effects of the civil war. Other tribes copied them and avoided goods produced in Eastern Nigeria as inferior for far more inferior goods from Taiwan and China which was still then developing there exports.

Lagos producers are giving the negative reviews because it was not Kunle Afolayan who directed and Odunlade Adekola was not in the cast. If you know, you know!

Anybody who thinks Lionheart is crap but thinks that October 1 is a hit movie needs mental evaluation!

I dont need mental evaluation. I have watched both movies.
Tell me what makes Lionheart better than October 1. From the plot, to the acting to the directing, to the lighting, or the cinematography. October 1 flawed Lionheart. There was nothing Lionhearted about lionheart. It was just bare and overhyped.

It is funny that someone takes movie critics as tribal... The same new York times the op is hailing has probably criticised movies the op thought was excellent. Besides articles are usually the perspective of an individual and not the view of the organisation (New York times)

That being said I watched the movie and I rated it a 5/10....which to me is a fair reflection of what I watched.....You can't bully anybody to call a spade a club..... If you enjoyed the movie good...if you didn't also good

this same Genevieve didn't enter stardom in that undeveloped five eastern states. she made it to the top in Lagos and she had never feel inferior about the great movie she made

Lionheart regardless is seen as Nigeria movie and she did a good work but that doesn't mean there won't be a critic in one handwork. not everyone will like your handwork

these Igbo should receive sense
There will be critics but many of them are sentimental especially coming from the western region. Many of them are sentimental in their review. Same thing is applied in the academic line ( Pull Him Down syndrome

Popular Nollywood film producer, actor, Ugezu J. Ugezu, has penned down why Movie producers based in Eastern Nigeria should not allow Lagos Movie reviewers underrate their works.
Ugezu, stated this following review of the Lion Heart movie, produced by Nollywood goddess, Genevieve Nnaji, which stars other veteran Eastern base actors, like; Pete Edochie, Nkem Owoh, others.
Reacting over reviews the movie, which was recently bought by Netflix has generated, Ugezu said, he has read so many reviews from Nigerians and it’s filled with negativity, trying to tear down the work of the producers. But after he read a review of the movie from an International platform, NewYork Times, which reviewed exactly what the movie is all about.
Ugezu, has given Movie producers base in South East the reasons to overlook the review of the Lagos base Movie reviewers and push on with their works.

In an article he shared on his social media page, Ugezu wrote;
“By the time you read the reviews by Nigerian Reviewers on the film LIONHEART, by our own @genevievennaji , and compare with the review from the NEW YORK TIMES, you will discover why many argue that wickedness dwells in Nigeria. What we do is destroy, we don’t build.
“Except @sirucheagbo who did a near excellent job on his reviews, all others that I have read from our so called Nigerian Reviewers were deliberate efforts to destroy the film. But I am consoled, YOU CANNOT CURSE THE ONE GOD HAS BLESSED.

“NEW YORK TIMES review on the same film has made nonsense of all your pull her down reviews by asserting that the film is indeed a masterpiece.
“There is a risible attempt by some people who feel they have an open gate to media, to play down on everything we do from the east, to these set of people, we don’t know what we are doing, but every new day that breaks, God invents a way to tell you guys that YOU ARE NOT HIM.
“In 2014, by the Grace of God, I, Ugezu J. Ugezu was the only screenwriter invited from Nigeria to the 3rd international screenwriters conference in Warsaw, Poland. They told me finally when I got to Poland that they invited me because of my originality & consistency in telling the African stories. Note one thing, they bypassed all you professors and doctors of scripts to send that invitation to ordinary me in the east.

“Finally, NETFLIX has paid Genevieve US$3.8m for the same film you gathered and reviewed as nonsense, NEW YORK TIMES has concluded it is our best…. I am wondering where you destiny killers will hide your faces now.
“If you are a young filmmaker, I will advise you never to be discouraged by these demons that parade themselves as film reviewers in our country. They are not professionals, at least this is glaring from their consistent releases. Their target is to kill your zeal to make films. Continue making films, they are not your chi. Disturbingly, these guys that will hit their keyboards and destroy another’s work, has never created any film… WHY LISTEN TO THEM?

“Let Genevieve’s audacity motivate you. Keep doing something, something will surely happen. At THE METAPHYSICAL STUDIO, we are ALWAYS STARTING SOMETHING.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I don't think there is anything such as hate with critics and reviews. There are days I see a supposedly good movie, only to visit Rotten Tomatoes and IMdb and see some unbelievable negative ratings, coupled with harsh comments. In truth, no one loves to be criticized harshly or negative. We all enjoy a pat in the back after a work has been done.

Critics are not bitter people. If there is a loophole they've seen, they'll point it out and give reasons why. Politicizing/Tribalizing things as these make me understand why we are still celebrating new Nollywood like it is on the same level with Hollywood Team B acts.

It's funny when peaple say the story line of a movie is predictable, but you still find this set of peaple watching a movie about Robin Hood is 2019 and still hype it.for me it's pure hypocrisy.we Africans are always looking for a way to pull down our own.let's take the British media as a case study, once a litle boy scores a goal you will hear them tag him the nest Maradona of our time but the reverse is the case in Africa.we really have to support our own.

Lion heart is a goal. It was obvious in Nollywood that the success of that movie pained many people, especially those that their own movies didn't even make it to WAP, talkless of NETFLIX. All the hype of chief daddy and 30 days didn't even make the cut. Alter Ego nko? That one just used her big nyash and sex scenes yet sales no even reach $200k.

Not the same, there was civil war resentment back then and the aim was to discourage patronage which to the closure of businesses or putting fake labels on products such as made in Italy for Aba produced shoes.
Remember that many Nigerians were shocked by the quick revival of Igbos whom they felt will not survive with Awolowo 20 pounds policy and nationalization of companies and factories in favour of South West

Last year, immediately after the Hip Pop Awards, one of such Igbo OAPs of a little brain condemned the organisers and rallied his fellow bigoted igbos over what he referred to as a showing against the Igbo artistes in the industry, forgetting that Igbos had won the Next rated award in past occasions.
Igbos must learn to eliminate the defeatist mentality which has bedeviled their social integration for years now. Otherwise, they stand the danger of being further relegated down the rung.
