UNN should be doing much better.
Nigeria's first indigenous university should lag behind nobody.

The quality of the alumni alone should give the University the impetus to become Africa's best.

I am not happy.
UNN started to receive federal attention from 2007 before then it was almost over looked after Ibb

Yet it's still has the best staff to student ratio

That Im sure

University is the biggest scam in Nigeria, I don't care what anyone says, it's a total scam. Some of our parents didn't even finish class 5 and they built factories, industries and companies. Some of them were even traveling the globe as far back as the 60s and 70s and all this was accomplished without a secondary school education let alone university. So it doesn't matter which school they tell you is the best because at the end of the day, even graduates from these so called best schools are queuing up like everyone else to apply for jobs. Many of them become depressed or suicidal after graduation having spent so much money and time in school only to spend many more years looking for a job. I will rather learn a trade and business than waste my money in getting another degree.
Goan try that now, without secondary school degree huh

Who told you that one. There are reputable organisation that prefer pass from CU to 2.2 from uniben. I know of one MD that eased his relative from uniben out of his growing organization for a 3rd class from CU. It is that bad.

The staff to student ratio in ibadan is amazing

My lecturer still called me out of the blues 2 days ago which is 2 years after graduation.

Lecturers in Ibadan know you by first name

No department except Law, Medicine and Economics have more than 70 in a class

When i graduated , there were 33 students in my department in engineering, Mechanical Engineering had 25, Petroleum had 24.

What am i saying? There were more students in my secondary school graduating class than number of students in my department in my level at any point in time!

If i mention my department i'll give myself away at once

Everyone knew i was nairaland freak !

I concur. My uncle was busy buying brand new Volvos and Bedfords like pure water. Now most young people can hardly afford a brand new car.

I think you are a bigger dunce here.
Did university education promise you technical knowledge? No. It is selfish folks who make up that devilish assumption. There are places called technical school and polytechnic. university education isn't suppose to guaranty you a job also.
Learn to take responsibility about your life issues bros.
You are another highly educated dunce. The sole reason why parents send their children to university is to increase their prospects of getting a white collar job after graduation, however there are far more qualified graduates than jobs. So rather than wasting your time and money getting a university degree, you at better off learning a trade because no matter what, your acquired skills will always be in demand.

But you have to OPEN your mind

Don't let anyone deceive you that you studied Petroleum so must work at Shell.

What if Shell doesnt happen?

Open your mind to banking, consulting and even programming.

Goldman Sachs has been coming to Nigeria to come and get Engineers for nearly 3 years now.

Its the engineers whose minds are open that are in London right now taking home £45k after taxes in their first year.

The best grad student in petroleum engineer in my set is currently at Mckinsey & Co.

So open your mind...

The possibilities out there are amazing

It is you who is quick to generalize that is a typical naija thinking dude. Always appraising yourself and blaming the system that groomed you for your flaws.
In Germany, 70% go for vocational/technical training as against our own where virtually all 100% go for academic knowledge ( university ) and are too lazy to even fulfil their responsibility of improving the body of knowledge.

Baba... You just made a very big mistake... The ranking you are quoting is an old one.. A new one was released yesterday. But They are yet to effect the changes.. In that new one, na UI be the best..

Saw the article below on Covenant University's website... Even they acknowledged that they are second best in Nigeria.. 151, while UI is 141.

West Africa’s Best University, Covenant, has once again justified her status as the hub of cutting-edge research in Nigeria and the West African sub-region, by being listed in the top echelon of the most significant research driven universities in the world’s emerging economies ranking parameters.
Covenant emerged 151st at the 2019 Times Higher Education Emerging Economies Summit 2019, on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at an event in Doha, Qatar.
The event brought together Presidents, Vice-Chancellors, Rectors as well as policymakers and industry executives, to share and advance understanding of the opportunities and role of research universities to secure their future and the vital role they can play in their nations’ development.
Covenant’s latest feat comes on the heels of the University crossing the 1,000 publications threshold for one year (2018), the very first time since her inception.

So in your opinion, universities around the country should start adjusting their curriculum from the academic one they were established to teach towards one that helps the majority of students get white collar jobs?

You are the mega-dunce here. You want the system to give you your own selfish idea of education against that which they were established for and even have the audacity to say it publicly? For your info, there are places for that and no one forces you into those schools. You can start the first of such university if it pains you so much.

Wow, you are dumber than I thought. No one said universities should change their curriculum to accommodate the changing times, although that isn't a bad suggestion. Since you lack comprehension, I will repeat what I said and hope that it makes sense to you this time around. Rather than sending their kids to universities in hopes of getting a white collar job, they are better off learning a trade or skill. If this post still doesn't make sense to you, head over to www.naijalingo.com for a free English to pidgin English translation.

So if the parents have a different motive for sending their wards to universities other than the one they are established for, is it the parent/wards that is at faulty or the schools you initially attacked? Answer that question directly and let's see who is dumber and a dunce here.

The only thing wrong with our university is that you got admitted.
Is it so hard to realize that university is not the same as technical college?

Things people tell themselves repeatedly to justify why they came out with Third Class at Uni. For a start, a University is different from technical colleges— which is what you seem keen on.

Keep repeating these things to yourself if that makes you feel good though grin

There is no mistake whatsoever. The list in which CU was ranked 151th is Emerging economies ranking talking about improvement of higher education systems in ""Developing Countries"" where only 442 universities were ranked across 43 countries.its an analysis of country performance based on universities that feature in both the 2019 and 2018 table
