Interestingly the EO pod is missing

Guess to cut down maintenance costs they removed it, as the ATGMs ie HELINA and SANT r still waiting to be qualified from the same.

Why would you need it if you're firing cannon and rockets?

For the Rudra ?

Not necessary perse if one intends to fire only the cannons and unguided rockets with less than the optimal accuracy. In the fog of war it will be even worse.

Eg. if max possible first shot accuracy is required for the cannon for off axis shooting while being slaved to the HMS which inturn takes in feed from the slaved EO pod , then it is necessary.

Even firing the unguided rockets will stand to benefit from the increased situational awareness from a EO pod.

IMO optimal utilisation of a attack helicopter potential as a standalone system is dependent on its organic OODA capabilities which will be incomplete minus a EO pod.

But I guess it's possible they might even go with a version minus EO pod if the user is satisfied with the same. Who knows.
