Para

Since the commanders were given greater financial powers to buy basic equipments without the intervention of the beauracrats and MoD , the quality of the basic equipments has increased to an extent.

I mentioned them in the past to u .

Ghatak is a specialised infantry platoon . One each in every battalion.

The correct description would be shock troopers. More like elite infantry withen the infantry. To Spear head the infantry if required.

Sometimes certain infantry tasks requires specific skills , the ghataks provide that . It is not possible to train all infantry covering divergent capabilities so some r drawn from the same to train in additional capabilities.

Eg. high altitude mountain climbing , the ghataks will be the first to scale the mountains under fire and form the bridge head and the regular infantry companions will climb after them.

They r not special ops, they r integral , drawn and part of the regular infantry units

SIOT is different imo. Different mandate and role .
U know about them I am surprised
What r u a military historian ? grin

Ghatak Units, or Ghatak Commandos, are elite infantry platoons attached to each infantry battalion of the Ind.. Army. There is one platoon of these soldiers in every battalion. Ghatak literally means "Striker" or "Lethal" in Hindi.

Role

Their role is to act as shock troops and conduct assaults against enemy positions, with or without support from the rest of the battalion. Their objectives range from short range reconnaissance, combat patrol, search and destroy missions, ambushes, designating targets for artillery and air raids to contact skirmishing, destruction of enemy machine gun nests, artillery posts, urban strongholds and bunkers. During the Kargil War, Ghatak Forces led the assaults on enemy units to retake the mountain peaks.
These units act in furthering the tactical and strategic objectives of the battalion. Therefore, their missions are set at the discretion of the battalion commander.

Unit composition

A Ghatak Platoon is usually 20-men strong, consisting of a commanding Captain, 2 non-commissioned officers and some special teams like sharpshooter / marksman and spotter pairs, light machine gunners, radio operator and flamethrower troopers. The remaining soldiers act as assault troopers.

Training

These soldiers go through the Commando Training Course in Belgaum, Karnataka. Often, other specialized training like heliborne assault, rock climbing, mountain warfare, demolitions, advanced weapons training, close quarter battle and infantry tactics are also given. Certain units and operators are sent to Counterinsurgency and Jungle Warfare School school as well. However, most of them are not parachute qualified or trained in special warfare.

CRPF central reserve police force ( what one would call as a federal police force ) and part of central armed police forces CAPF

Used to re enforce state police force when required.

Main task law and order and counter insurgency / terrorism

2nd task 3rd tier force for guerrilla warfare in homeland incase of large scale invasion of homeland, thus allowing the military and paramilitary to concentrate on their primary task

Around 313000 of personnel's.

Total strength of paramilitary and CAPF around 1.5 million personnel's.

There is a fellow named raj47 ex MI

Who used Google Earth imagery to do significant irrigation to some people as a time pass grin

The guy managed to unearth a new testing site previously unknown ( in open domain ) using Google Earth pic , which caused a flutter on the other side.

And also provided proof ( not defacto proof ) but nevertheless corroborated by previous open source info that nuclear weapons ( possibly assembled ones ) r moved around in civilian trucks camoed as delivery trucks for flowers , foodstuffs etc.

Incase anybody is wondering how a underground nuclear weapon storage site looks like from above

Last pic is interesting
It mention possible explosive after wire mesh

This technique uses a layer of explosives placed between wire mesh or a layer of interconnected bars or steel plates , which again is located between 2 layers of RCC to defeat earth penetrating or bunker bursting PGMs.

The explosive layer is primed to go off if the neighbouring RCC layer is breached and the explosive force is directed outwards so that the penetrating PGM is destroyed or its effectiveness is reduced.

Very difficult to breach such overground structures , forget about reaching the underground complex portion.

DRDO roadmap for airship development

These airships r primarily for surveillance tracking etc as integral part of cruise missile defence (CMD) etc.

The game changer will be the Stratospheric Airship that will operate at the altitudes of 17-22km ( if developed successfully )

It will employ high tech fabrics, aerodynamic design, propellers to modulate its position, a mooring system, a gas management system, avionics for navigation and guidance and solar arrays for power generation and storage.

One single stratospheric airship will allow surveillance over a very large geographical area even if deployed inside the hinderlands.

Can stay afloat for 6 months and even replace geostationary satellites if it's hover position is fixed.
