There was one video of BH with a prisoner warrant officer after they over ran a base, I think that video was erroneously posted as the metele attack. On nairaland or twitter, I can't remember which one, somebody posted that that was his father and proceeded to name the man. It really hit me hard, I wasn't myself for some days because that image kept coming to me and I wondered what the family might be feeling at that time. @BabaOwen, nobody is forcing you to do what you don't want to do, but I guess the request is to respect the dead and the family that are still alive. That pictures or videos are posted by others doesn't mean you should do same,if those same people are putting their hands in fire will you do same? People like that dead boy made it possible for you to make posts like this at the comfort of wherever you are. I hope you try and understand why they told you to take the picture down.

About 8,000 people have fled Rann, a Borno border town, to Cameroon in the aftermath of a Boko Haram attack on the town last Tuesday.

Aid organisation Medecins San Frontieres (MSF) in an update on the Rann attack released Thursday night said residents fled to Bodo, a remote community in Cameroon, some seven kilometres from Rann.

“Our sources in Bodo estimates that some 8,000 people arrived yesterday and we expect several thousand more may come today,” Hugues Robert, MSF Programme Manager for Nigeria, Hugues Robert, said in the update.

“We are preparing to assist 15,000 people with food, water and medical care over the coming days. Many people were in a state of shock and were clearly distressed by what they had witnessed. Now they have lost all that they have and need absolutely everything,” he added.

The organisation said many of the refugees have spent the night outdoors without shelters. Many of these locals are children, breastfeeding mother and pregnant women, MSF said.

It said a team consisting of medical and logistical staff have been distributing food and water, and are providing emergency medical care.

Rann has suffered attacks by Boko Haram and a case of mistaken firing by the Nigerian Air Force in January 2017, leading to the death of many.

We should understand what "Basic Human decency" is all about, that should tell everyone that posting such images of dead people isn't right, especially of non-criminals, they deserve better.
I remember seeing a corpse of my uncle in such manner after he was gunned down during a bank robbery in that same Nigeria, he was a police officer, his body on the floor outside of the bank and people gathered there taking pictures. Think about what the loved ones of the deceased think about these things, regardless of which outlets are spreading them, it's indecency, and total lack of respect for the families of the victim(s)

MEDIA-MILITARY RELATIONS: NAF HOLDS 2019 AIR POWER ENLIGHTENMENT WORKSHOP FOR DEFENCE CORRESPONDENTS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), today 18 January 2019, conducted an enlightenment Workshop on Air Power for Defence Correspondents in Abuja. The one-day Workshop, witnessed a large turnout of journalists from different media organizations covering various Defence beats. Organised by the NAF Directorate of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI), the Workshop was aimed at better equipping Defence Correspondents with requisite skills and updated knowledge on the application of Air Power. It was also intended to acquaint Defence Correspondents with various Air Power terminologies in a bid to enhance professionalism in the reportage of NAF events thereby projecting the NAF in a more accurate and balanced manner.

While declaring the Workshop open, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was represented by the Chief of Administration, Air Vice Marshal Kingsley Lar, stated that information management in contemporary times is critical to national development. He added that the way information is processed could affect national security either positively or negatively. “Therefore, a Defence Correspondent must understand the terminologies associated with his beat to enable him report events professionally”, he stated. The CAS enjoined Defence Correspondents to make good use of the opportunity offered by the Workshop to acquire pertinent knowledge about the NAF. According to him, there is a growing need for journalists to understand the nuances and technicalities involved in air operations as the nation strives to maintain peace and stability.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, commended the Defence Correspondents for their dedication in covering and reporting military activities. He pointed out that, while there had been some improvement in the level of reportage of NAF activities, especially in the ongoing counterinsurgency operations as well as other monumental achievements of the current NAF leadership, it was clear that there were still some gaps in the manner in which news on NAF and the Insurgency in Nigeria was being reported and disseminated. According to him, the workshop could not have come at a more appropriate time than now, as public expectation of accurate and timely dissemination of information on NAF operations across the country is on the increase. He then expressed his appreciation to the CAS for his strategic guidance, which led to the conduct of the Workshop.

During the one-day Workshop, seasoned resource persons, all of whom were drawn from the NAF, presented 4 papers. The papers covered; NAF Hierarchy and Rank Structure, Characteristics and Limitations of Air Power, Aircraft Types in the NAF Inventory and Roles, as well as Armaments on NAF Aircraft. Participating Defence Correspondents expressed delight at the opportunity to attend the Workshop, which they described as being “quite informative and educative”. They commended the NAF leadership for deploying resources to add value to their capacity to undertake their assignments as Defence Correspondents, which will stimulate professionalism. Certificates of participation were later presented to the Defence Correspondents who attended the Workshop.

The CAS, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is on an operational visit to Headquarters Air Task Force (ATF) Operation DIRAN MIKIYA in Katsina, where he was briefed by the ATF Commander on status of the anti-armed banditry operation in the Northwest of the Country. He charged the ATF to sustain the tempo of operations with a view to further degrading the armed bandits and completely flushing them out of the area.

I disagree, it has nothing to do with politicians. Upsurge in attacks has always being a tactics employed by Bokoharam to scare away voters and in extension elections to further drive home their agenda of their own brand of "Islam".
It has always being a trend even by international terrorist organisations. The talibans imploy this alot.

It's all about destroying the system and making people lose faith in it, no better time to do that than during elections, if people are too scared to venture out to vote, democracy slowly dies

And the military hierarchy did not pre empt this. It happened in 2014 and one would expect that we must have learnt a lesson and envisaged this would definitely happen again. Alas, we fell into level 4 amnesia.

Do we ever learn?

Three soldiers were killed as troops battled insurgents in Gamboru Ngala, Borno State, decimating many terrorists, including two suicide bombers and recovering rocket-propelled grenade, bombs, AK- 47 rifles, among other weapons.

Other terrorists were said to have escaped with gunshot wounds.

Vigilant troops also foiled, in a fierce encounter, attempts by the terrorists to infiltrate Gijram community in the state.

The confrontation was said to have started in an Internally Displaced Camp (IDP) located in the town of Rann, which was attacked by Boko Haram members in eight gun trucks and several motorcycles two days ago.

They burnt some parts of the town and stores belonging to Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) operating in the area.

Speaking during a confidence-boosting visit to troops of 3 Battalion Bravo Company in Gamboru Ngala, the Theatre Commander, Major General Benson Akinroluyo, and the Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, commended the resilience and doggedness of the troops while fighting to hold the ground. He disclosed that the troops neutralised two suicide bombers and three other terrorists while others escaped with gunshot wounds.

“Regrettably, three soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice”, a statement issued by Deputy Director Public Relations, 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Col. Isa Doko, said.

Meanwhile, several terrorists were killed when troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Forward Operational Base in Gajiram, fiercely countered a group of Boko Haram terrorists who made frantic attempts to infiltrate Gajiram Community on Tuesday.

The terrorists, who tried to take advantage of the cover of darkness to attack the town met with the prompt response of the vigilant troops who fiercely engaged them in combat, killing several of them and recovering weapons.

During the encounter, troops recovered one AK 47 rifle, two A7 47 magazines, one rocket-propelled grenade tube, three rocket-propelled grenade bombs, four bomb chargers, and light machine gun belt links.

“The gallant troops are currently on the trail of some of the terrorists survivors who fled the scene of the encounter”, a statement from Deputy Director, Public Relations of the Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, Onyeama Nwachukwu, said.

Most Parts of Borno Inaccessible, 43,000 Flee Homes, Laments UN
By editor - 6 hours ago

By Micheal Olugbode in Maiduguri

The United Nations yesterday decried the conflict in North-east Nigeria, stating that Boko Haram attacks since November 2018 had caused over 43,000 persons to flee their homes with more than 32,000 taking refuge in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

A statement by Head of Communications at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN-OCHA), Samantha Newport, said renewed attacks had also cut off access to humanitarian assistance to some towns in troubled Borno State with Rann, a border town with Cameroon, recently attacked by the insurgents, having no access to humanitarian workers.

The UN said immediately after the January 14 attack on the border town, 14 aid workers were withdrawn.

According to the statement, “The United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon, has expressed grave concern over the interruption of aid delivery to tens of thousands of internally displaced people in Rann, a town in eastern Borno State about 10 kilometres from the border with Cameroon, following a deadly attack by a non-state armed group.

“The interruption in the delivery of humanitarian assistance to Rann is the direct result of an attack that started at dusk on 14 January 2019 on the military base and continued into the next day. At the time of the attack, an estimated 76,000 internally displaced people were living in Rann.
