There are Isoko and Urhobo indigenous to Bayelsa in Sagbama L.G.A there's is also a place called Isoko Bayelsa where a lot of Isoko and Urhobo people both from Delta and Bayelsa stay. As for the Igbo I don't know much about that though I hear there is an Igbo Subgroup indigenous to Ogbia local Government Area called Ekpeye. But I haven't really seen them.

Its Pronounced Iyineguo. But only by old People and I'm not Sure of what you're saying but The Epie-Atissa of Yenagoa and The Zarama Clan of North Yenagoa near Mbiama is very related with the Ngenne and the Degema people of Rivers State. They're have a history of Coming from Benin. Although other Clans in Bayelsa too Claim that but these two are the ones that speak Edoid languages.

No wonder the Engenni language and this Epie seems so similar

I think Ekpeye is predominantly in Ahoada east and west local government of Rivers state

This is my Second thread after that pidgin Battle thread that Hit FP. Damn I loved that Thread but this night its not about Pidgin again. Today I'll be trying my Best to save my Maternal Tribe's language called Epie-Attisa. spoken Predominantly in Yenagoa the Capital city of Bayelsa State. And the Fourth major language in Bayelsa After Izon ,Nembe and Ogbia. Epie is an Delta Edoid language normally spoken by The Natives of Yenagoa who have a myth of Migrating from Benin. But that is Changing as most young folks from 30 to 1 year olds can't speak the Language because of the Nativization and Creolization of English and Pidgin especially in the Niger delta. So tonight I'll try my best to preserve this languages by storing its words and Sayings here on Nairaland plus Translations.

Chey, the richness of Nigeria's languages and folks never ceases to amaze me. Epie language ke! Now I know, e se oga.

They are both Edoid languages, hence the similarities in vocabulary. They stem from the same mother language. It makes as much sense to say that Urhobo is a dialect of Epie as the other way around. So, it makes no sense all in all.

Thanks for clearing that up. And Nigerian languages are amazing. But Sadly this Epie is dying even I can't speak it as its people are in the middle of a growing and Booming Metropolitan centre and can be found no where else but there.

And its worse as its in the Niger Delta with pidgin being Creolized and English Nativized. I grew up speaking Pidgin as a Native language. Well I've accepted it now but that's why I opened this Thread.

Yeah, it's a shame. I was never taught my mother language either, so I know how you feel. I try to learn, but it's too difficult when basically no one around me can speaker it either.

Nigeria was never meant to be a nation, but here we are. Language death is a natural consequence of the nation-building process.

Well Nigeria isn't a nation in the real sense of the word. We're just a state a country. But it's still my country that I must build and defend no matter what. And yeah language death is a consequence of building a nation, so here we are.

are you seeing any Edo group claiming urhobo? They want to be on their own so we let them be.

Even though ikwerre rejected been igbo and claim bini origin. The igbos are still forcing their selves on them
So you mean lgbo force uche okwokwo to become Secretary of ohanaeze and Chibuike Amaechi etc. To become pan lgbo member? lf you have not seen edo claiming uhrobo?, l have see them, even claiming Anioma, Anambra, River state etc. lgbo cannot force any tribe to become lgbo because ife eji abu lgbo erika

In my home town olomoro very close to Oleh. Everybody can speak isoko but it's not imposed on anybody. They answer you in the language you speak

The elderly, women, girls of all age, early teen boys and children use isoko to communicate amongst themselves while male youths of certain age code switch between both mostly favour pidgin... I was in oleh not quite long, people there speak also I saw some children and labourers speaking tho but not like us

The reason why our languages are dying is because the youth don't see it as fashionable since there is no new slang(yoruba has a lot thanks to their agberos grin), no movies,or music(modern music like olamide and phyno o) but warri pidgin alone is very creative and has a lot of trends that youths like..

I don't know about asaba but I think they should be fully igbo speaking o.

What tribe are you btw
