A bill for an Act to amend the Electric Power Reform Act to prohibit and criminalise estimated billing by the Electricity Distribution Companies has passed third reading in the House of Representatives.

The House unanimously voted in favour of the bill when it was put to voice vote by the Deputy Speaker, Yussuf Lasun (APC-Osun), at the plenary on Tuesday.

The bill, which was sponsored by the Leader of the House, Femi Gbajabiamila (APC-Lagos), had scaled public hearing on Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

NAN recalls that at the public hearing, Gbajabiamila said there was nowhere in the world where electricity customers are billed arbitrarily as obtains in Nigeria.

Gbajabiamila said the estimated billing could only be used in situations where the meter of the consumers could not be accessed by the energy company.

He argued that the DisCos had accepted estimated billing as the normal practice by making accurate and exact billing the exception.

Gbajabiamila said just as Nigerians are most united when the Super Eagles are playing soccer, they are also united against estimated billings.

“Any regulation that allows estimation of bills when the actual consumption can be ascertained is against natural justice and equity and should not stand,’’ Gbajabiamila said.

He said the bill, when passed, would put an end to the estimated billing by the DisCos, stressing that it would bring about a win-win situation for both the consumers and the companies.

“The bill will ensure that prepaid meters are installed in all houses, so long as the customers apply for the meters,” he said.

Your best enemy can still be your best friend in life. Make friends not enemy.

4 years ago, PDP used their TV Station AIT to mock Buhari over the death of one of his daughters but today, the same Station has awarded him Africa's Best President.

Prayer Point: Oya, hold your head and say those who mock you shall come around to celebrate you.

You think AIT boss, Dokpesi, doesn't know what he's doing? I still remember that large congratulatory card he presented to Buhari in 2015...Fear of the unknown.

This is corruption number one any responsible government will fight, not chasing shadows.

Thumbs up for Femi Gbajabiamila.

If only we can have someone like this as President, we should support him regardless of party affiliation.
