1. Being refused a student visa is not a crime. Therefore you need to disclose all previous visa refusals wether student or not.

2. Your budget is reasonable, but my worries is your monthly salary. How much is your disposable income after subtracting monthly expenses and cash to family member? The rule is not to spend more than twice your disposable income on a holiday. Do you have other sources of income to support your financial ties to Nigeria, like shares, properties? There is no harm with staying with your brother. He will need to send you all the necessary documents (UK passport data page, letter of invitation, copies of utilities bills, evidences to proof relationships if its a family visit visa etc).

3. Your marital status is not relevant. What matters is your ties to Nigeria. Are your ties strong enough to compel you to return back to Nigeria? Is being a Masters student enough to satisfy the ECO that you will leave the UK?

4. You can apply for 2 years, but I would not advise it, since your last UK visa was 6 years ago. Your personal and financial circumstances in Nigeria must have changed significantly. So I would go for 6 months instead. If I may ask what type of UK visa was approved and what was your main reason for the visa in 2013?

1. TLS guys won’t collect any of your previous Passports from you; they’ll only collect the current one as that’s where your visa would be stamped. However, there are questions in the application form relating to your previous passports - just fill in the details there. You then make photocopies of the bio data page and the travel histories from the old passports. TLS will scan the copies for you. Please make sure they are in A4 size, otherwise they’ll be rejected.

2. Yes there are question on how many times you have been to the UK in the last 10 years, the purpose and date of visit as well as the length of stay for each visit. There are also questions around how many times you have visited Australia, Canada, Newzealand, USA and Schengen area. Similar questions on date, purpose and length of stay are asked as well. Finally, they ask you about your visit to any other countries in the last 10 years - this is the category where mother Africa falls.

3. Your 4 year old is good to go. Americans don’t require a visa to visit the UK as long as the trip is for tourism or business. They are stamped in for up to 6 months on arrival. However they are required to provide justifications for their visit. Please note that you need to state in your form that your child would be traveling with you. The child however does not require to fill any form given the child is an American.

Justwise, Ekpotek and others, I am about booking my ticket to the UK for March as stated in my application today but got a mail for official assignments to end in April.

I have to go in April now. But hope it won't be seen as misrepresentation since I stated March in my application?

Also, can a 7days vacation be extended to 10 days? I don't want any issue whenever I apply in the future.

Kindly assist with your opinions on these issues.

I picked up my short stay visit visa yesterday and it took exactly three weeks as I applied on 27 December. It was dated 11 January which was the exact departure date I filled in the form, unfortunately the date is passed now. Thanks to all for their contributions on this platform.

From experience, it's depends on when you are traveling and the type of accommodation you need including shopping.

Am in London for 4 days December/January
Ethiopia airways return ticket #308,000
Accommodation £50/day on average
Feeding £100/day average
Transport £250 Buy oyster bus card for cheaper transport, taxi suck. Though depends on your route.

Advise: Book for flight ahead like 3 weeks, you can even get cheaper flights on British airways. Looking for hostel or Airbnb for accommodating if you are on low budget. Shopping depends on your pocket size.

Though the standard time for UK processing is 3 weeks, who knows anything can happen and it got extended.
Except you are ready to pay for priority service, you can get your visa process in 24 hours.

I never knew UK grants 2 years Visa on first attempt. I have always thought you need to have been granted a 6 months Visa first before being granted a 2 years visa.

I don't think it will be a problem but if you haven't attended biometric appointment yet then you can correct it on the printout.

Spending extra 3 will not be a big deal but if I'm in your position I will stick to the number of days stated.

No, no interview; I just submitted my documents and did the biometrics, that all. I however saw some people lined up to be interviewed; I presume those are students. I am not aware interviews are done for UK tourist visas.

How much do you make in a month? And how much will the trip cost you for the 6days?

You seems to be criticizing this when you don't know where and how I spent it. Am talking from my own perspective.

Take naija as a case study, you can spend #1000 on a coca cola and 2,000 on food in places like Abuja while you will eat to satisfaction in restaurant at ibadan with just #300.

Some places in London, I even spent more in a day. It depends on the restaurant. For example, hotel restaurant cost much than outside one.

So the £100 here depends on where you eat and the type of food you eat couple with drinks.
