Finally I completed the book of behavioral change by Sophia Yin, and I have already started applying her techniques and using it to correct her behaviors.

I bought my dog a dog toothbrush and dog toothpaste. The first time I tried to brush her teeth I made her lick the toothpaste so that she knows it has a nice taste. When I proceeded to put the toothbrush in her mouth, she backed away and kept running away anytime she sees the toothbrush (it's her first time, so it's expected). I didn't succeed in brushing her teeth that day, just managed to rub her tongue with it for sometime.

So today I was able to successfully brush her left teeth with at least 5 strokes, with a lot of persistence, it took me close to an hour to do this. grin

I applied the principle of desensitization and classical counterconditioning to brush her teeth, she was so stubborn and desperately tried to go against the technique, but it was irresistible, she fell for it several times and i ended up brushing her teeth well.

I feel happy, because now I can make my dog do absolutely anything I want with the technique, but it takes a lot of patience and time, because my dog is a slow learner and she is very stubborn.

Wow.. I need to read this book.
you are actually correct about Lhasa behaviours. You can't make em do what they don't want to do.

Initially when I got Coco , he was obstinate. he wouldn't want me to walk him he would drag the leash and try and bite it off or bark at me telling me No.

But as at yesterday, he walk some kilometres with me happily.

my point is training a dog is a gradual process. if they disregard any training, we should not give up..

At OP what do u feed urs mostly??

Same with mine Oo, she doesn't allow me walk her in a particular direction, she just want to go where ever she wants to go, and if I try to walk her in another direction she would lie on the ground and not stand up.

I feed her diamond puppy, plus home cooked protein source like boiled egg, cooked meat, chicken, fried fish, hollandia milk and occasionally bread, yogurt, salad vegetables and fruits. Diamond puppy is a 4 star food for puppies.

all dogs love anything meaty, the trick is finding something not meaty she loves as well, you’ll enjoy watching her tear through the oddest things dogs don’t love .. my Lhasa loves banana, husky loves carrot, Caucasian loves Kulikuli..

A vet officer of a local government area came to inspect my pet and collected some samples from her. She however noted the dog was a happy dog and seems to be very healthy. wink

In this Nigeria?

Under what context was this visit done? She took blood samples? For what purpose?

Please do enlighten me!

I belong to a whatsapp group for canine education, very serious group with rules and regulations, I contacted a vet there that I needed a vet to come and check my dog and also for consultation, I gave him my address and he gave me a vet's contact that's closest to me.

I followed the advice the vet officer gave me previously, that I should only feed little quantity of dog food at a time. It worked like magic.

She ate more than she normally does at a single sitting this morning, because the food looked small and easy to finish to her. So I have to give her food at a spaced interval instead of all at once as I usually do. grin

The vet really knows what she is doing.

Mine only likes the egg yolk, would eat only little egg white. But if it's raw she would finish everything, although I stopped raw egg diet, there is no significant advantage of raw egg over boiled egg which is better.

I have always suspected that my dog stash food items to eat later.

She would just bring random food items out of no where and start eating it. I wonder where she gets them from. So today I gave her a big piece of friend fish, I noticed she didn't eat it immediately, she went somewhere hidden to hide the fish. She saw me looking at her as she was hiding the fish, then she took the food away from there to hide it elsewhere. Obviously because she felt it wasn't safe again there...

She kept it somewhere else in between the sofa, she didn't know I saw her too, I went to check it, when she noticed I was moving towards the fish, she went there to check, to be sure the fish was still there. This dog is so smart cheesy

So whenever she is hungry, she would go there and eat it. This behavior is also observed in fox that stash food items to eat later when food is scarce. cheesy

Hello Jackofall,

Very nice thread I must say, I enjoyed it thoroughly. I have a few enquires however.

Where/from whom did you get Beverly? Mutts are being paraded as proper dogs these days and it’ll do first time owners good to know a proper place to get a proper pup

Also, diaries like these are full of good times and fun moments, but I’m also aware that getting a dog comes with a lot of commitments and sacrifices. I would love to know how you deal with some of these especially ‘pooping’. Dogs unlike cats are not known for their cleanliness.

Thanks.

I think I talked about how I was able to potty train her on this thread, go through it again. It was a pain when we first bought her in the house, she poops anywhere she found herself, until she realise we didn't like it.

I got her through a vet who directed us to a dog owner that just gave birth.

I would advice you to stay off puppy millers, those who don't care about their dogs. I got mine from a family dog owner, the dogs sleeps inside the house(not inside cages like puppy millers do).

As you can see from this dairy, I am a dog lover, and my dog sleeps inside the house and is treated as a family member and not a livestock. You can be sure your dog won't have much behavioral issues to start with, as long as you also know how to treat dogs right.

this is exactly how I treat my dogs, none sleeps outside , I treat them as part of my family , they eat what I eat, they sleep and rest when I do and workout when it’s time. I want to Add a ferocious Rott to the family once one of my baby Lhasa gives birth.

So yesterday I saw a piece of my dog's teeth on the floor. I also noticed most of her front teeth have removed and larger teeth are erupting, she is 4months 15 days old. And she tends to bite my hands less.

I'm a first time dog owner, decided to get a small sized dog cos I felt they are easier to handle.

She is female and just 6 weeks 5days old(DOB is 19th September 2018). When I brought her home today, it took her just 10 minutes before she started playing with everyone at home, and she is very hyperactive and plays a lot... I was wrong that small dogs are easier cry

I gave her water and gave her cooked indomie with can food(happy chopper chicken). She is currently sleeping in her makeshift play pen with food, water and toys
She's such a cute doggy
