The blocks of high-rise apartments they said was being built, are they still on it or have they been abandoned? I think they were called diaspora village....apartments, or something like that.

Anyone who says Rochas hasn't worked should go and take a bottle of Sniper grin
I will continue to say it, ''Nobody has ever developed Imo State from 1999 to date like Rochas.''
I think these pictures are just about 70% of what he did.

I'm sure President Buhari was surprised at the Owerri he saw compared with the fake pictures being circulated and false negative stories deliberately drafted against Imo as a State and Okorocha as a person.

There's this line of thought making the rounds that Ndigbo should play 'the right type of politics' and not be left out of the power equation at the centre.

Now my question is: you happen to know what Imo has gained or what Rochas caused to be brought to Imo as a result of the state being in tune with Abuja? Last i checked, the person Rochas nominated to be minister is serving as a junior beneath a newspaper editor of northern extraction who Buhari made the substantive minister of education!

You are wrong. Okorocha did not nominate Prof Anwuka but rather some Abuja APC peeps in connivance with Imo accomplices put out his name in order to lend credence to their plans to blackmail Okorocha of running family government. Okorocha rejected his nomination which is the reason they are not in good terms today. Those same people also deliberately added Okorocha's daughter as member board of a federal school in Rivers State which he also kicked against and his daughter rejected it.

As for federal presence in Imo sadly we didn't get much as expected as the only APC State in the Southeast.

Centenary city is the abandoned highrise estate. Was meant to be a PPP but seems not to have worked out.

This unfortunately is how most world-class, multi-million dollar projects billed for the south-east end up! They are launched with such fanfare and hype, then few months down the line, they're dead and forgotten!

Why is it that with the limited land space we have in the south-east for real-estate, no one is thinking of building a couple of high-rise apartments and office blocks? Looking at the pics Arinze is uploading of Owerri, it's quite obvious land management isn't part of the agenda given the way low-rise buildings and bungalows take up all the available space...doing the same job five or six 15 story buildings could quite easily do!

Very frustrating and annoying! sad

Xander85, I think Abagworo has given you a sincere answer. Let's learn from it and move on.

I've always known that when it comes to infrastructure, Rochas sets himself apart in a big.

Abagworo, please do me a favor: don't rebly that mad man trying so hard to get attention. He will walk out of this thread in shame when everyone ignores him.

Okorocha's infrastructural projects most of the times are substandard but to be honest the inside of the place is indeed a masterpiece. I wish all the projects are well detailed like this place. I give him a 90% pass mark.

This your narrative you keep repeating is false and I'll keep reminding you it's false every chance I get. You talked about unjust development in owerri which is worse than the the other 36 states of the federation. Like I said a million times, this is not true. There's no other city nigeria that have developed rapidly as owerri in the last seven years since okorocha came to power. Absolutely none.

Sure, a lot of people don't like okorocha for one reason or the other, but the man came in and started building stuff. I personally don't like him for other reasons too, like not awarding contracts to reputable contractors who will do really very good job. But I like the guy for his free education system (the first in the SE) and more importantly, his urban renewal projects in owerri. There MUST be urban renewal projects in nigeria because, from day one, we practically built everything the wrong way. The urban renewal projects in owerri is far from being perfect, but it's better than nothing. Let's at least give credit to okorocha for thinking about this novel idea.

In the US, the one single barometer that is used to judge the rebirth of cities are urban renewal projects. I witnessed it first hand in Washington DC. By the late eighties, the city was dead, after an exodus of white people to the rapidly developing suburbs that started in the 60's. When this happened, the black population of the city shot up to 75% The city started coming back to life when this trend of moving to the suburbs by it's wealthy white residents were reversed in the late 90%'s. Today, with the city population being about 50% white and 50% black, the urban renewal which has continued unabated is a wonder to behold. Vast dilapidated areas of the city, especially around capitol hill with it's new baseball and soccer stadium are now full of mixed used developments.

Anybody living in DC in the eighties and today can hardly believe the turnaround. DC is back to being a world class city once again.

Just reread what you wrote. Every thibg you claim Rochas has done were done in Owerri. Not a single worthy project in Orlu. Pls go and compare it to what happened when they opened up the so called Area U. All Orlu needs is some of the institutions moved there, Like IMSU. A general and specialist Hospital or profession civil service Training institute.
Thing is why cant Orlu be allowed to have the entire IMSU? with that university there is no how That town and environs cant expabd and grow. Rochas might have tried in Owerri but its shameful when one decides to drive to outskirts. This is why certain interests have decided that the Owerri zone will.never be allowed to rule. Its only when people like you starts speaking truth and demanding equity and fairness, thats the only time others would also accept that they should be allowed to govern. Me am not here to fight, but state the fact. I was in Owerri recently, and was really impressed by what i saw, but a few minutes drive out side the city was really an eye opener. very pathetic to state the least. I teust this is why The Orlu and Okigwe Zones are rooting for Hope Uzodinma.
