Re: FG To Ban Tomato Importation This Year by SalamRushdie: 7:29am On Feb 05, 2019
Another poor thought process again all over.. You don't need to ban tomato paste for Nigerian tomato production , Let the farmers grow their tomato to reach sustainable levels and watch imported tomato fizzle out ... Remember just 2 years ago Dangote had to shut down his Mega tomato processing plant after one week because it ran through all the supplies ofp fresh tomatoes and couldn't get more thereby leading to scarcity of fresh tomatoes in the market and price hike

I am not a prophet but see below the outcome of this policy if it takes off:

1 : Sudden Scarcity in fresh tomatoes supplies
2: Price hike in tomatoes as over demand sets in .

3: increase in activities of smuggled tomato paste into the country

4: Loss of revenue by govt due to increased smuggling activities

5. Reduction in in consumer savings as family units spend more on tomato products..

6.Increased revenue for smugglers and corrupt Customs officials.

7 .Consumers opt for another alternative to tomatoes leading to reduced demand and another round of comatose fro Tomato farmers

8.. Govt backs track and cancels policy all over to save farmers.

Trust me, as soon as that is done the price of tomato will go up again, jxt like rice.

Now, tell me how much of rice has been produced in this country since dis government banned d importation of rice?

It's not abt banning importation of thinz jxt for the profit of few in d country but for the benefit of all.

Sense must be applied in taking step to promote productivity.

Last time I heard we'll soon start exporting yam, d yams we hav nt even produced enough for local consumption.

Government knows tomato problems have not been eradicated. Hmmmm. They want to enrich someone again oooo. Just let us be watching. The idea of banning is wrong. Just make it cheaper to produce here than importing. Simple. These old people are fools ooo. I have been saying it. Ha! Old tall stem from Daura is trying to enrich one person again. Just watch it. Most likely Dangote is ready to bounce back and start his tomato plant again. Just watch it. What is wrong with dangote or whosoever competing with the rest? They will finish Nigeria. These old men are demons from the pit of hell sent to destroy Nigeria. Both Atiku and Buhari are devils.

We have been importing under the watch of the so called economic masters for over three decades and somebody is telling me he understands the economy better than the man who is working hard stopping all the anomalies. God forbid that they succeed in their bid.

So if they knew about these anomalies, why is it at this late hour theyre deciding to put a stop to it. Open your eyes bro, thyre all the same. There is none among the present ruling elite that has the interest of the masses at heart

It is not everything that every brain can carry ?

So is tomatoes that caused Nigerians lose 20million jobs under Buhary. Or is it tomatoes that made Buhary bring recession in 2016?

Tomato is not among the first top ten selling food commodities in the world. It is not a campaign issue.

It is good to have supporters on both sides. But it is stupid to be a supporter on the wrong side.

A Quick research on the internet : In Africa, Nigeria is ranked the second largest producer of tomatoes and globally, is the 13th largest producer, its total production annually has been estimated to be about a 1.701 million tonnes.
The states in Nigeria engaged in commercial production are; Gombe, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kano, Katsina, Benue, Jigawa and Plateau.
The national demand for freshtomatoes in Nigeria is about 2-3 million tons every year. Due to the poor production chain, Nigerians waste from 750 000 to 1, 350, 000 tons of tomatoes.

This is a step in the right direction, the wastages should stop now and more revenue to the country.
God bless our President MUHAMMADU BUHARI and his amiable Vice president Prof Yemi OSIBANJO as they take us to the NEXT LEVEL of our lives.
God bless Nigeria.

Funny, and Dangote couldn't get supply to sustain his tomato paste plant

Like I will always say, in other countries online data might be correct, but in this country, we have poor data management

Relying on all this so called data online regarding Nigeria is wrong, is far from feasibility..

Watch how tomatoes price will hike, there by making life for people more difficult..

When production in house increase, import will die naturally, there noting like imposing bann on import...

Banning this import prematurely will have serious effect

For the umpteen times , let's vote for somebody that wrote waec !!!!! And free buhari from his confusion....

I am even surprised seeing this topic come up because in 2017, this same nonsense came up under this administration. I even tot they have banned it since then.

Let them keep appealing to the poor and illiterate population they are deceiving.

The main problem of agricultural products in Nigeria is storage facilities. How can we still be importing tomatoes when the ones produced in the north can serve the whole Nigeria? I think "storage of unused and excess resources" should be included as one of the basic economic problems of the society. If we can get it right with storage facilities, believe me, we will stop importing 90percent of the foods into the country.

All that dangote knows is increasing price of goods. His plant was closed because it was not feasible to operate. He tot Nigerians were producing enough tomatoes but discovered they can't sell to him raw tomatoes at the low price he wants. The farmers would make more money transporting their raw tomatoes to sell in the south.

He has already told you he can't sell fuel at N145 govt price but concentrate on exportation while govt comes to negotiate with him based on international price.

How can 1.7m tons serve a demand of 3m tons ?

Market is demand and supply. Where is the abundance you talk about ? Yet this is harvest season of tomatoes.

We are not producing enough.
