I was reading your comment and I have to correct you on something. Oh, before I continue I am black American not an Akata. OK, to continue, the term African booty scracther was created 80 years ago by the racist Walt Disney Company. It was meant to be derogatory towards black people.

On one of their cartoons they had African Cannibals cooking another African tribe in a big black pot under a hot fire outside. As they were cooking the men they circled the pot singing in mumbo jumbo with big giant earrings in their noses, and humongous red lips while scratching their booties. So the Jews are responsible for the term *African Booty Scratcher* not black Americans.

I agree with you about the use of that term only being used by kids, heck I was called that as a child and called my friends it as well, there wasn't any crying and whining only laughter because it sounded so stupid. I had forgotten about the term until I came to this site with the over exaggerated use of the term coming from people on this site who has never been to America complaining about black Americans calling them ABS, you know, the my cousin's uncle's, girlfriend nephew's sister he said she said mess.
Sorry! What's the difference between akata and black American m

OP. This website is a poor source of information about Nigeria, especially if you're educated.
Please don't get your information from Nairaland. If you need sources I can point you in the direction but listening to people here will get you lost because it's anonymous site and people aren't accountable to what they say.

I call myself it so you would know exactly who or what I am. Nigerians use the word so much in the US I just embrace it. Whatever it means doesnt bother me much because I am different. I am secure in who I am and any one who knows me or are around me , will respect me. So I find it makes others more uncomfortable to hear me say it from my mouth 4 whatever reason. I look at it as letting people know the cats out the bag. I understand and know where we stand and how we are perceived .
did you ask why they called you Akata? Nigerians will not wake up one morning and start calling black Americans Akata for no reason. undecided and beside Akata is not even a Nigeria thing, but that of Yoruba undecided

As the title suggest I am an Akata. I intend to relocate temporarily for various reasons. I basically would like to explore different opportunities and build a network in Nigeria. I have a background in IT and was considering enrolling in an University to further my studies and build a social network. I was wondering are Nigerian degrees recognized in America or would it be a waste of time ? I have a decent knowledge of IT and programming mostly self taught and certs. I am not too considered w/ school but rather the network it would provide.

I also have done some limited research and was torn between Lagos and Abuja. I am wondering which area would better suit my interest. I understand Abuja is more affluent but Lagos is a commercial hub with a lot going on. Im not timid or scared , I've lived in NY in rough parts so high density areas of black people do not intimidate me ( Im no tough guy ,either). What I am not interested in are any forms of "pan africanism" or any village experiences and wearing dashiki's ( no disrespect ) I just find those type of endeavors a waste of time and laughable. I've been to Ghana and did not enjoy it because of that reason . Too much emphasis on " cultural " shit , I respect African culture and can appreciate it , but it is yours . I do not seek to be something I am not. Too much tribalism and other political bullshit only confuses me and Im too old 4 that shit. My ONLY purpose in being in Nigeria is purely economical . I don't have time to waste on endeveours which will add no value to my life or the people i come in contact with.

I would greatly appreciate any feedback which I could take into consideration b4 making my move. I intend to travel there by March for 2 weeks just to touch the ground 1st b4 I make a decision. I tried searching YouTube but all of the Akata youtubers seem to be naive clowns to me so I take their opinions w/ "a grain of salt" as far as NIgeira.

I dont mean to come off disrespectful because I hold Nigerians in high esteem its just rather the narrative of the returning Akata which I hold in disdain. I don't want to be confused w/ some lost puppy looking to return and find his long lost culture and heritage. I have a culture and background o my own ( carribbean descent) so I can appreciate yours as I hold onto mines.

Blessing 2 u Brothers

Please do not come. No offense, but we don't want hateful black diasporans AKA descendants of slavery coming to our country. Africans are very much aware of all the hatred so-called black americans harbor in their hearts towards Africans. Please keep your hateful selves back in america. Mucho gracias!

Why are you putting my name in the conversation, he wasn't even posting to me. When did I insult you or blame the white man for everything? The white man knows the wickedness he has contributed to this world, he doesn't need me to tell him of his evil deeds. Stop lying.

Nigeria is existing and people in nigeria are getting deported from one state to another? 3 ethnic wars in one 'country'? Nigeria is deader than pan-africanism.

I have an Associate already from the past . I was just exploring the idea of going to a University to continue my BA while I was there. Since I dont know anybody I figured a University would be the ideal place to build a social network. I dont intend on just walking the streets approaching random people.
*chuckle*

The fact that u believe only other races are capable of relocating for economical reasons I find disrespectul . If White Americans and Indians can relocate 4 economical reasons , why cant black americans ??
And of all countries to relocate to, it's Nigeria??

*guffaw*

U strike me as very ignorant "Do you plan on taking some oil and running out of the country" I dont believe u are Nigerian by saying some stupid shit like that. U sound more like a British or American NIgerian who thinks like a white man who u hold in high esteem. NIgeria has one of the biggest economies in the world and the biggest market in Africa . So why wouldnt a Black American see it as an opportunity and consider relocating there ?? I have a skill set and a strong network in America so I just want to see would I be able transfer them to Nigeria and make money. Even something as simple as selling barbecue ( example , i dont cook ) I am into IT now but I've done construction and can operate almost any heavy duty equipment. I have friends who fix and sell tractors and other equipment.
E be like see this uncle don chop belleful.

I read his write up more than once.

There is nothing wrong with "anyone" let alone a "black" man coming to Nigeria to explore business opportunities, he will not be the first nor the last.

I gave him what I would consider reasonable advice being someone with good experience concerning the ins and outs of business in the country. Like I said it would be advisable for someone who has never visited the country to come in as a Tourist/Visitor, get a feel for the how the country works then begin to explore business contacts if he did not make any prior arrangements with such. Abuja is a good city to begin from then transition to Lagos which is much faster. He would be able to evaluate the pace of the the cities and see what works.

Comparing New York city to the hustle and bustle of Lagos Nigeria is like apple and oranges, they are no where near each other in any aspect you can imagine. Johannesburg is far more comparable to New York city in terms of pace, Lagos is not. (please take this from someone born and bred in the city of excellence.

Ther are several blogs on YouTube that can give you additional on sight information of the the country and how travelers navigate the cities and where are the best places to make business contacts in Lagos and Abuja

Lastly, Nigeria has its own culture and if one intends to do business there as a "black" American or Caribbean, one most be open minded and learn to adjust "culturally' without feeling like they are relinquishing their identity.

Black-Caribbeans/Americans are not Native Africans but the two groups are far more related culturally than say a Scandinavian to a Nigerian so he should use that to his advantage.
As a Haitian American, it's my duty to emphasize the embedded West Afrikan culture (which is a very, very broad term) in the country of Haiti. As far as we are concerned, we are the Vanguard of Afrikan culture in the so-called West. Everyone else fights for 2nd place.

This doesn't make any sense to me!

I'm aware the chief reason most descendants of slaves come to Nigeria or any other African country is purely exploitative. I said most! (this might not be overt).

Yours, however doesnt make much sense. on the one hand you claim you're not interested in the local pay but you stated your move to Nigeria is purely economical! So to set up a Biz then?! What are your qualifications?! you say you're self taught Why do you think that's sufficient, cause some people on here grovel?! Come on, man! You're not interested in "all that pan African bullshit" yet you wanna network and make contacts. To what end?!

Nigerians/Africans wake up! just because a person is of the same color a us doesn't mean they're for us!

This one has yet to properly state his objective. All I can sense for now is something glaringly exploitative! I mean, says he's leaving America for Nigeria for economic reasons! :/

You're not any different from the Caucasians, Arabs, indians , Chinese and co! You shall all bare your crookedness when the time comes!
