-There is a reason why kids are taken away from the parents, some of the issues are due to ;
-Violence in the home
-Severe beating many Nigerian parents dish out to their children
-Religious indoctrination and harm
-Hunger on the home or neglect of children

Those are obvious reasons nobody would contest. I’m talking about the underground reasons outside the obvious.

The lady I advised didn’t fall in any of those categories. By the way they carry out the scheming when the father is not in the picture, most times they first try to isolate the woman from her husband before they strike.

I know they don’t try this shit with Arab families.

I don'tknow about the situation in Sweden,but in Norway, a woman once smacked one of her four children, because the child was biting one of the other children. It wasn't even a severe smack,and the woman did not beat her children regularly. That was enough to have her children taken away from her.(The woman was an Arab by the way)

As a child growing up,my mother used the cane on me when I misbehaved. She would go out,pluck a big stick, and whip me with it. Now,if we were living abroad, and she did that...she would have gotten into trobule with child authorities.

I don't know this woman's story...and for all I know she could be lying. But the problem is, European standards are different from Nigerian standards. If you hit your child in a European or North Amerrican country....even if it is gentle smack like the woman in Norway...your kids can be taken away from you. If you hit your wife if you are a Nigerian man (hitting one's wife is wrong, Nigeria or oyinbo,by the way)...you could be in jail. The problem is, Nigerians find it diffiuclt to adjust to the culture of a new land (it's aproblem worldwide...by the way)...and as a result...end up in disasters like that.

To any Nairalander thinking of porting abroad...better read up on nonviolent ways to discipline your children. Watch Supernanny or any other similar programmes. You are a stranger in a strange, often racist land. Trust no one.

In Scandinavian countries, they are very strict on children's rights. Is very common. She needs to do as they say. if not, it won't be easy with her.

We have to be permissive because places like U.S are not only targetting physical abuse but emotional abuse. Kids are calling cops on their parents when yelled at or scolded. There is an enmancipation clause in some states where a 14 year old can move out and live on his or her own. Depending on the school, kids bear their minds to school counselors who in turn contacts child protective services and from there, say bye-bye to your kids. What I've seen that works is have those kids exposed to the Nigerian enviroment, I've seen parents bring their kids for summer holidays and have them spend few nights in darkness, heat and mosquito. The result is often miraculous, for example when a niece of my friend starts wasting food, we just play her videos of kids starving in Lagos from Youtube and she becomes sober, the guilt alone makes her behave for weeks.

I agree, in all honesty proper discipline should be a mixture of positive and negative reinforcement. I do tolerate an occassional ass whooping or spanking when the act is more than outrageous especially with boys. I'm just worried that the U.S is getting worse and worse each day! As much as Nigeria is a shithole I cannot imagine myself living forever abroad, I cannot imagine my kids marrying an akata or white woman or even worse end up as collateral damage in this gun and drug infested nation. May God help us all!

Seriously I see it this way, if I don' like it, I can always return to the U.S and accept my fate....lol
