In 1998 he(atiku) was elected Governor of Adamawa State . While still Governor-Elect, he was selected by then presidential candidate Olusegun Obasanjo as his running mate. The duo went on to win elections in February 1999, and Abubakar was sworn-in as Nigeria's second democratically elected vice president on 29 May 1999. Abubakar's second term as Vice President was marked by a stormy relationship with President Obasanjo. His bid to succeed Obasanjo did not receive the latter's support, and it took a judgment of the Supreme Court to allow Abubakar contest after he was initially disqualified by the Independent National Electoral Commission on the grounds that he had been indicted for financial misconduct by an investigating panel set up at Obasanjo's behest. The Supreme Court ordered the electoral commission to restore Abubakar's name onto the presidential ballot. Abubakar ran on the platform of the Action Congress , having quit the PDP on account of his issues with President Obasanjo. Abubakar lost the election, placing third after Umaru Yar'Adua and Muhammadu Buhari of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) . Abubakar is a co-founder of Intels, an oil servicing business with extensive operations in Nigeria and abroad. He is also the founder of Adama Beverages Limited, and the American University of Nigeria (AUN) , both in Yola, Adamawa . Obi a former governor of Anambra State serving from 17 March 2006 to 2 November 2006, when he was impeached and from 9 February 2007 to 29 May 2007 after his impeachment was overturned. Although a fresh election was held on 29 April 2007, he was reappointed governor on 14 June 2007 after a court ruling that he should be allowed to complete a four-year term. [1][2] He won a 6 February 2010 election for a second term as governor. History tells us that any election result that isn't in atiku/obi favor is always rejected by them and taken into court.. why ![]() Chris Ngige was declared the winner of the governship election in 2013, obi through court of appeal overthrow him in 2016. Obi once again left office on 29 May 2007 following the general elections, which Andy Uba won. Obi returned to the courts once more, this time contending that the four-year tenure he had won in the 2003 elections only started to run when he took office in March 2006. BEGS FOR THE QUESTION: Do you think businessmen make good politicians? No. Businessmen will sell the idea that they make great politicians, because selling is what they do. The problem is too many people buy what they are selling, which is mostly a cheap imitation, and some of them don’t even try to hide it. The business of business is to make as much money as possible, and some businessmen don’t even care if it is made legally. The business of politicians is to protect the people, serve the best interests of the nation, and pass the country/state/city on to the next generation, hopefully better than they found it. When politicians turn government into a business, they stop looking out for the best interests of the people and start looking out for the best interests of themselves, their cronies, and their loan sharks…I mean, lobbyists, party leaders, and campaign contributors. Some of them don’t even care if it done legally. They just vote to change the laws to make it legal. If a person went into politics to serve the people, to serve the best interests of his/her constituents, and leave government better than he/she found it…it wouldn’t matter if that person was a businessman or not. Most politicians today get into it for the money, and the laws have changed to make being a politician lucrative. Why in the world would two people spend almost $60.000,000 between them to campaign for a presidential seat that only pays $174,000/year? They stand to make many times more than that. They aren’t in government to do the business of the taxpayers. They are in government to give taxpayers the business. Congress voted to repeal the A.C.A. 60 times when they knew they couldn’t actually do it, and couldn’t do it once when they actually had the power. They get paid a lot to do very little, except spend 4 to 6 hours a day (yes a DAY) calling for campaign contributions. Imagine if all that time and energy was actually spent doing their jobs? Can you imagine a businessman doing all that work because it was the right thing to do, not so he could get rich at taxpayers expense. No? I couldn’t either. Businessmen by and large make lousy politicians , and there is plenty of examples in government right now as proof. Simply because the goals of business and government aren’t the same. THIS IS NIGERIA! |

In your comparison, it's better to opt a politician who sits at his desk all day, without the common feel of what a regular citizen goes through, rather than an experienced Managing director whom grew a business from zero to hero while feeding, employing, catering, clothing, sheltering, progressing the lives of thousands of employees? Peter Obi was the MD of fidelity bank before aspiring for Governorship. Has any Governor or VP set up 100% in Nigeria what the duo have done in their respective states in terms of Internationally recognised industries with employments in thousands, while replicating even in other states? You should be clamoring for Individuals whom have achieved climax in private industries but didn't stop at that like most majorly do, but have gone to replicate such prowess and resilience in the public sector.. Was the difference not clear between both parties on all the platforms debated on? Get Atikulated.... |
