Anyway planting for the new season has commenced. You will agree the rain caught everyone by surprise in January, so if you don't have water for irrigation, don't plant yet.
I have one acre, about 1-1/2 of it was forest before it was cleared. I will not be needing any fertilizer or watering for this part because it's very close to water, and it's the first area I planted on the 4th of February. The rest I started planting yesterday 7th as my helper commenced making ridges. I plant and water immediately, for this part, I plan to apply urea at 4-5 weeks, no NPK. Will upload pics soon.

Not quite sir, I actually improvised by making those ridges. My initial plan was to start planting without ridges, but like I mentioned earlier, the rain came down just 2 days after clearing, (January) and by the time I got to the farm a week later I could see new weeds already growing everywhere. If I had planted in that condition, the weeds would have taken over. So I decided to make ridges to free the plants of weeds. Anyway I had previously been warned that the area grow weeds quickly, but maize also do well there. Please note that, had I been able to plant without making ridges, I would have started with NPK application, but since the soil has been turned over, I can do without it until after 4 weeks when I would apply urea.

Been trying to upload these pics for over a week, the plants are definitely taller now. The second pic is the well I dug to have access to water. I use a small DC pump that is powered by solar panels.

[quote author=NextDayPP post=71607072] I used a 5 litter paint bucket per plot. I applied urea after 4-5 weeks. My method of application is by mixing with water, urea desolves quickly in water. For this method you must know how many stands you have, that should not be too hard with uniform rolls. Get a plastic cup of about half a liter. If you have a thousand stands for example, you will need to mix a paint bucket of urea with 500 liters. You don't have to look for a large 500 liters container, get a 50 or 25 litters keg, if it's 50 liters it means you have to divide your urea into 10 equal parts, adding one or two liters to cater for spillage should be considered.. Remember to stir very well. Pour directly to the base of the plants, it will not harm them when mixed with water.

Remember that I had chicken waste in the soil before I planted. Assuming I didn't have that at the beginning, this is how my fertilizer application should have been, taking into consideration the land minerals had been exhausted before maize planting.

3-4 buckets of NPK buried in ground the way you bury your maize. ( Don't put NPK and maize in the same hole, about 2 inches apart) plus the soil most be moist to help the NPK desolves quickly. This is done at planting or after 2 weeks, but I prefer planting day. Then apply urea at 4-5 weeks as stated above.

Now if you clear a bush that you feel is rich in nutrients, but not sure if it can be enough for close to 3 months that the maize needs it for, you can just bypass the application of NPK and only put urea at 4-5 weeks and you will be good, but you might want to increase urea to 1-1/2 per plot. Any other person can put in their contribution

Thanks op for sharing your valuable experience. I will like you to clear things for me in this your write up

* Are you saying that no matter the plant population on the field you use one paint of fertilizer and the only varying quantity is the water for one plot

* I saw that on you farm you planted 4 stand of maize on a spot, if am to apply 1/2 a liter of the fertilizer mixture on a spot; will I apply 4 cups to go with your calculation of 1/2 liter per stand of maize or I will just apply only once. Thanks

As I harvest this, I will be planting another set which will run till first week of may. If you plant late may/June, when rainfall becomes frequent, growth will be affected.

Re: My Two Plots Of Maize Farm (planted 16/02!2018) by NextDayPP: 9:58pm On Apr 24, 2019
No, you might need to add a little bit more if your population is higher, this is just a guide. In fact there's a place I said , 'if you must crowd your plants, feed them'

If you see 4 plants in a hole, I must have missed that, I did cut down to 3 per hole. In fact, right now I do 2 per hole at 20 inches apart. Even the 2 seeds are not exactly in the same hole, just close. See the picture. This how my stands look like now. From the center of this to the center of the next is 20 inches

Hello!

Have you tried cultivating Rijk Zwaan cucumber. It's called Mydas. Mydas has:
Extended shelf life
High resistance to CCU and intermediate resistance to CMV
The taste differs from your regular cucumber. It has improved taste (you could visit our farm to try one)
Higher yield
Early maturation/ harvest.
It is a parthenocarpic variety (it does not require an external pollinating agent, it is self pollinating)
It can be cultivated both indoor and outdoor

Below is a pics of our growing Mydas. The average fruit weight is 400g, if properly managed, you get up to 600g per fruit

NEOLIFE SUPER GRO

The Wonderful Natural Liquid Fertilizer
Super Gro, as the name suggests is the most wonderful natural liquid fertilizer ever produced for agro industry.

It is meant for the purpose of growing crops and plants in order to add much value to them. This is to ensure that agricultural productivity is enhanced
both in quality and in quantity.

Super Gro Liquid Fertilizer being natural in essence means that it is devoid of chemical input which makes it different
from the conventional chemical fertilizer that we all know.

The advantages of Super Gro Natural Liquid Fertilizer over the Chemical Fertilizer are numerous
and very great. Because crops and plants depend so much on water, Super Gro is meant to improve the quality and quantity of water as required by these crops
and plants for wonderful growth and production by adding the essential nutrients they require for that purpose.

Super Gro helps you make the most use of water: one of the basic fundamentals of life itself. Water, good quality water, is an issue of such importance that governments, states, provinces and major suburban areas around the world have created agencies to ensure its long-term availability.

As our global population grows, water will become an even greater concern to everyone because of its importance in our daily life most especially for the
production of food. Bearing this in mind, it therefore, becomes much essential that we all should also be much concerned about improving the quantity and
quality of water to ensure its most efficient use. Drought or otherwise, we should always try to get the most efficient use from water.

This is one of
the reasons why agricultural industry must not underestimate the constant use of this wonderful product - Super Gro.

Functions of Super Gro

NEOLIFE Super Gro acts as both an adjuvant and a surfactant, by reducing the surface tension of water in addition to acting as
a wetting agent. Adjutants are agents designed to aid in substances' action. NEOLIFE Super Gro helps make water "wetter" by reducing its surface tension.
It may seem contradictory, but water does not always "wet" very well except when Super Gro is added. Often it tends to bead up on the waxy surfaces of
plants, crops, lawns and gardens, and before it has a chance to penetrate, it runs off or evaporates. NEOLIFE'S Super Gro helps conserve water. It tends to
increase the rate at which water penetrates common soils.

Surfactants are wetting agents that are used in several ways:
(1) As emulsifiers to disperse oils.
(2) As wetting agents, to lower surface tension.
(3) As dispersing agents, to reduce adhesion between particles of chemicals, so they will spread and remain in solution longer.

Features of Super Gro;
Super Gro is a multi-purpose surfactant.
(1) It makes water "wetter".
(2) Specifically formulated to be effective, economical and versatile.
(3) Easy to use.
(4) Long shelf life.
(5) Tolerates extreme temperature variations.
(6) Safe to use indoors and outdoors.
(7) Non-toxic, non-caustic and non-flammable.
(cool It improves the absorption of nutrients.

Super Gro from NEOLIFE helps you make the most use of water - water, one of the basic fundamentals of life itself - for without water's life giving force,
no living organism can survive, let alone grow.

Any fertilizer after tasseling will not be effectively used, you will start seeing tasseling in 7 weeks, pls apply your urea before the 6th week. You should have done your NPK at 2 weeks. Thumb up for that weeding. I have come to notice that, even if one doesn't have money to buy fertilizer and you can keep the weeds away by weeding twice, with regular rainfall, one can still smile.

Thanks a lot. I stay in port Harcourt while the farm is in my village in imo. So I wasn't able to travel at 2 weeks. You mean I should apply urea at 5th week or exactly 6th week?

How do you see the spacing is it ok or should i trim it down to one per hole? Its currently two per hole at 30cm by 80cm. Although some are higher while some are lower.
Re: My Two Plots Of Maize Farm (planted 16/02!2018) by NextDayPP: 11:14pm On May 09, 2019
Between 5 and 6 weeks, not later than the 6th week.
80cm apart is good, but should have been 40cm within. I would leave it as it is, apply urea and make sure no weeds hinder their development. Good luck.
