Finally seen someone in my field. Also have Bsc Geology and Msc petroleum geoscience. Although I have been seeing some geology jobs on indeed here and there was one ExxonMobil one and there is even a Canadian govt one now that deadline is in Oct. 2019. However since I hear the oil industry is shaking in alberta I am open to a career change. My sis is in ontario so I plan to go there for family support since I have small children and my hubby isn't relocating yet. I submitted my application since October 2019, glory to God, I got my PPR Jan 15, 2019 and my application has been approved too. I will be picking up my Passport from VFS this week. I intend to land in Calgary in MAY, 2019. Below are my profile and questions

- Single Applicant (Age: 33)

- Education (Bsc Geology, Msc. Petroleum Geology)

- Certification:
- Advanced Food Safety management training (A pre-arrival program sponsored by the Canadian government)
- CCNA & CCNP (Expired since 2012)
- Several Oil & Gas training courses

- Work experience.
- Current: Realtor/Real Estate agent (3 yrs)
- Previous: (Water Borehole Geologist (3 yrs)

(1) I understand I will need the APEGA licence to work and also that the oil & Gas sector of Alberta is quite down now, I would have loved to work in this sector. Has anyone gotten a job on landing as a Geologist without the licence?

(2) I also understand that I need a licence to practice in the Real Estate sector too. Has anyone gotten a job as a Realtor or Real Estate Agent with monthly pay (plus commission) in Calgary, If yes, how viable & financially rewarding is it? I wouldn't mind doing a short course for this if I can truly get a job quick in the sector. I also don't mind referrals

(3) I did the Pre-arrival Advanced food safety management training course (it is a 21- certificates course). Do we have anyone here working in the food processing industry, can I get a job on landing with this certificates.

(3) Lastly, I am open to new opportunities and don't mind changing career path as long as I can get a good job. If I am to do this. Which other paths and sectors can I explore that will be financially rewarding in the long run, which will also lead me to the managerial position someday. Pls note, I am ready to go back to school and do diploma course for this. I already checked out some courses in SAIT, but I need to know which one is really viable with huge job prospect.

I am exactly in the same boat as you. Geologist thinking of switching to project mgt.

It can be very tough getting admissions to a medical degree program in Canada.

I hear people say one would need a high CGPA (Msc or higher better), (Teaching Assistance, volunteerism, researches, publishing) experience, high MCAT scores, application essays, good reference letters, excellent interview skills and ultimately lots of luck.

Your best bet might be to google Canadian medical aspirants forums to update yourself with ways of going about it, the acceptance rate and level of difficulty.

I’m not in Canada, but as an Agric student .. almost everyday new varieties of seeds are produced and these is done by cross breeding and thereby modifying their genes ... the only thing I feel you should be scared of are crops grown mainly on inorganic fertilizers and other chemicals .. organic fertilizers are the best .. but in the world we are in, most crops are grown with inorganic fertilizers ... most farmers in Nigeria use inorganic fertilizers and other chemicals for insect pests and diseases

My Landing Story
We left for Calgary through Ethiopian Airlines on Monday the 28th of January. I had shipped our foodstuff on Saturday through the SAHCOL contact that was shared on this thread, it cost N110k for 93kg - my food stuff and bag was about 45kg, their extra packaging increased the total weight to 93 kg.
We got to the airport in good time, it was rowdy as ever and we finally weighed our 5 checked in luggage (they let even the 24kg bags pass) and we passed through immigrations easily because my 23 month old was just smiling at everyone we met.
We boarded the aircraft and to my disappointment, it was full. We got to Addis, Dublin and finally Toronto. Overall, I did not enjoy the flights because I had an almost 2 year old (he clocked 2 on the 1st of Feb) strapped to us all the time. My husband and I took turns carrying him. Although he slept all through the journey, he was uncomfortable as well. We were seated at the window and middle seats so it was not easy to use the loo every now and then. I had my own battle too, morning sickness. All these did not allow me to enjoy the in-flight entertainment to the fullest. The food…I did not understand it…lol.
We got to Toronto at 7:30am but were trapped in the aircraft for over an hour because there was no parking space for our aircraft. It snowed heavily the day before so it disrupted their activities. When we eventually got out, we proceeded to immigration and funnily they asked me to show our pof. I think the officer wanted to be sure we still had our funds as we got our COPR since June 2018, I don’t know. Thankfully few days before we left, someone advised on this thread that we should have proof of our pof if we do not have all the funds upon landing. I requested for an e-copy of my January statement after reading that post. The statement from my phone and the $7,700 USD cash we had on us was what we showed the officer and we were fine. After immigration, service Canada and newcomer center was a breeze. We finished at 11 am and were so sure we would get a connecting flight to Calgary. We picked our luggage and went to Air Canada and they asked us to go to Ethiopian Airlines to reschedule us when we got there, they said the bad weather had affected flights and the next flight to Calgary was at 9 pm. Hmmm, we asked them to put us on that flight. I reached out to our Airbnb host and told her we might get home at 1 am and she said that was okay. We found a spot to sit and wait for our 9 pm flight.
I pitied my boy but he was holding strong. I almost ran out of food for him. He slept, played etc. So my husband went to check in our bags and he met a good Samaritan who agreed to put us on standby for the 4 pm flight to Calgary, just in case someone doesn’t show up or something. We eventually got on that now 5pm flight and we were just grateful. However, the flight departed late and we still got to Calgary at 12:30 am. We hired a taxi at the airport for about $50 to our Airbnb apartment and just slept off hungry and tired at about 1:30 am.
Later that day, we went to the core shopping mall, we googled for nearby malls, we got our phone lines, met a nice Nigerian who agreed to babysit our son the next day so we could get stuff done. So far we have met VERY NICE Nigerians, unfortunately, none of them is on this Nairaland thread because I always ask them if they were..lol. We have not done much because of the weather and our very active toddler and my health but we have established networks that could help us get things done easily. We went to RCCG City of David NE on Sunday and met wonderful people who have volunteered to help us get an apartment. We have also met with a settlement counselor at immigrant services who I now consider a friend. We have been blessed with good people since we came.
Our cargo got to Calgary 3 days after we landed and we cleared it with customs (the guy drilled me sha) I filled my goods to follow form at the spot as I hadn’t filled it earlier. When we eventually got our goods we saw they tore our hard earned N2k Ghana-must-go (bagco) bags beyond repair all in the name my “searching”…lol. We paid a terminal fee of $94, my palm oil was still intact, thank God.
Our priority now, apart from completing our heath card registration and child benefits application and other paperwork for newly landed immigrants, is to get a daycare for our toddler, get a job for hubby and I and to get an apartment of course. So far we have got our phone lines, opened our accounts and applied for GST. It has been really expensive commuting by Uber as we are yet to get our bus pass. All that will be sorted this week though.
We are optimistic that everything will fall in place one step at a time, with God.

Those of us in Ontario, the time to enjoy the OSAP loan is now especially the part of it that you don't have to repay. By next year, a lot will change. I hear people are rushing to enjoy it while it lasts.

If you have the intention to go to school, delay no further as we don't know what OSAP will look like next year.

Please anyone well informed should enlighten us on changes in OSAP loan.

LANDING GIST....
The journey started on the 28th of December, 2018 where families and friends gathered to see us off to the airport. We had alot of people that followed us to the airport because we just got married on the 15th of December. Our flight was scheduled for 2:15pm via Egypt air, we left home very early in the morning and got to the airport by 10am.
We had four luggages and two carry on bags with us (we r just family of two) which was scaled by the airport attendant to make sure we didn't have excess luggage, thank God for the lady that attended to us she over looked some of our bags that are more than 23kg. After scaling our luggage we moved to do some documentations nd got our tickets for the journey.
We took pictures with our families and friends then my wife bursted into tears because this is first time she will be leaving her family , I tried to pet her nd we bid our families farewell.
We proceeded to the immigration clearance which was done very quickly, he requested for money nd I told him I dont have any naira with me again, he stamped our passport and we proceeded to catch our flight.
Our flight moved by exactly 2:25pm Nigeria time, the journey was smooth nd we r served foods which we r able to eat. We landed at d Cairo international airport in the night and we had to wait till 1:30am before we can connect to Toronto.
At 12am we started the checked in procedure for the second flight to Toronto. The flight took off by 1:40am nig time, this flight was bigger than the 1st one we took from nig to Cairo. We r served more than three times b4 we got to Toronto. A declaration paper was given to us in the plane to declare our goods and the money we had with us.
We landed safely in Toronto and it was a snowing day in toronto, it was the 1st time I will b experiencing snow live nd direct.
There was a long queue at the place we had to do our landing formalities, we gat no choice than to wait till it reach our turn. Finally, after standing for over one hour on the queue it got to our turn. The immigration officer only asked of three questions from us after exchanging greetings:
Q1. Can I have your landing papers?
Ans. I handed over our landing papers to her
Q2. How much are bringing to Canada?
Ans. I told her the amount we had on us
Q3. Give me the address of where you will b staying in Canada?
Ans. I gave her the address and she said we should go nd sit down dat she will get back to us as soon as possible.
After like 10 minutes of sitting she called us to come nd sign our landing papers and she also signed her parts too . She handed our copies of the landing papers to us nd said we should keep it safe because the govt we still request for it wen we turn 65yrs old and she finally said WELCOME TO CANADA and shook hands with us with a warming smiles.
We quickly rushed down stairs to get our loads because we had another flight to connect to winnipeg which was our final destination. Thank God we didn't missed our flight we arrived der at the right time. We flew air Canada from Toronto to winnipeg which was like 2hrs30mins journey. We landed safely in winnipeg and my brother was already waiting for us at the airport. Immediately we came out of the airport to enter Into the car that will take us home menh the kind cold wey I experienced pass my imagination. Winnipeg is very cold.... thank God der is heater inside the car which kept us warm till we got home....... That was my story....
We have already adapted to the weather now and God has been faithful with us since we got here. After 3weeks we landed my wife got a job as a finance officer at a govt agency. Thou I have not gotten a job yet due to the fact that my profession is a regulated job in Canada but I have bn attending interviews which I believe by God's grace I will get a good job soon.

Yes, it is exactly what you just described. It is mostly sold around Barnawa and most parts of Kaduna, I'd say its very common in the North though I've come across some sellers in Lagos too but mostly where Hausas are populated. I remember as kids we use to dip tge waina/masa in sugar then eat as snacks, it tastes even better.

There are alot of recipes and pictures of it on Google so you can check and confirm if its the same as what you had as a kid.

Please can I put thru on how the exam works and all I need to know as I would love to write before June. I work in the bank, going to 6yrs, hubby is force man, although in the medical line 13yrs. We are both less than 35, no masters qualification yet, please what are our chances? Initially I wanted to try try school, but on a second thought, Na this one sure pass. Success to those that are there already, and also preparing to move.

If you have an idle phone say samsung, put the sim cards inside it and keep the phone on always. As long as you receive sms and calls on them, they will remain active. Also, occasionally load say N100 on them.

Is it possible to enable roaming while abroad? My SIM stopped worked since I arrived.

Kingteller, that doesn’t sound like a dilemma. However it seems more sensible to go with your height as per your medicals.
