Keep kwayet my brother, even our family farm alone produce over hundred bags of rice and thats even only during the raining season,

There are companies that immediately buy off the harvest especially if you planted good varieties like FARO 44 or jamila

Funny enough if it was a negative ranking they will blame Buhari but now it is a good and positive news they are wailing and see nothing good about it.

If it was a list of negative thing where Nigeria is placed at number 20 out of 20 in Africa they will blame Buhari.

If I don't keep quiet, what will happen? I believe I have a right 2 my opinion just as u do. If u don't like my opinion, there's nothing I can do about it.

D report said 4 million tonnes. And if there's 4 million tonnes of rice in Nigeria, it will b in market stalls. So take a stroll to a market& sample d starks of rice in stalls& c if its Thailand or Nigerian.

Which companies "buy off d harvests"? Can u pls give their names? Do these same companies buy off d harvests from ur family farm? Is ur produce branded? For how long has ur family been producing rice?

The bag of rice in my house is from kebbi state ~ full of sand and a few stones, it swells fast. Eating is not inspiring but oh well we are tightening our belt.

Here in Bauchi there is Local rice everywhere, they even have a location close to the palace which only different varieties of local rice are sold especially during the raining season, in gombe state, bajoga L.G.A also has a similar place every market days on Thursdays, local rice are brought in, different qualities & colors, You can choose any you want.

Examples of companies which buy off rice from farms include but are not limited to Olam (Big conglomerate which not only produces Nigerian rice but also exports to other countries. Google them), Miva Rice (Serving North Central states), Oracle Food Processing (Which just came on board with over 100000 hectares of rice farms and capacity to buy from others, located at the industrial Layout, Makurdi). The above listed companies are just those dominant in the middle belt. I have a 3 hectare cassava farm at the moment. Will be going into rice (Farro44 to be specific) and soya-beans production once the rains set in this year. See ehn, it's not a Buharists vs Atikulators nonsense going on. People are making money in this sector so a lot of us are also keying in. I'm a building Engineer but I also have farms. It's not rocket science.

Am not talking about buharists or atiku fans pls. I only said if we have 4million tonnes of rice in Nigeria, we will c it in d market. Last year alone, Kebbi State celebrated crossing over the 1 million metric tone production benchmark. This year is going to be almost double that. And that's for Kebbi state alone. Ebonyi state is fast increasing capacity too. I don't know where you reside but, in these parts, seeing foreign rice in the markets is the strange thing. There's a variety of stone-free (Nigerian rice) on EVERY stand in EVERY stall you can find. The reason why some of the big Thailand rice producers have started opening processing plants in Kaduna and Kebbi (please google it), is that they are beginning to recognize the increase in capacity of our local production.

U have said what I wanted. U guys have been farming rice 4 ages. That means there has always been rice in nigeria. D problem is right now, d govt is trying to make it look like we just started producing. In Edo, in ebonyi there has always been rice. That's d point am trying to make. So all this statistics they are giving are just political. So when u go 2d market, u c more of imported rice. That's d truth. But local rice is sold in basins side by side& this has always been d practice. That's y I said if we have 4million tonnes in circulation, it will b more visible. D problem with rice farming is d same problem with agriculture generally. So when d govt just says rice has improved, I wonder how

Those Thailand rice you are buying in the market 70% of them are local rice bagged in foreign rice bag, that is how rice sellers make large profits because they know that we preferred foreign rice to local rice, moreover you can't distinguished some local rice from their foreign counterpart.
Lol. How old are you?

I know banker colleagues who resigned and went into rice cultivation. This is one area even opponents of this govt can attest to. Unfortunately most of our grains are being smuggled to other African countries for higher prices. I believe the Agricultural revolution is real and only a Buhari would have taken the hard decisions necessary for such growth.

Things will only get better.

Trying to avoid partisan politics, but this rice policy was started by under the ATA (Agricultural Transformation Agenda) of the Jonathan government by then Agric Minister Adesina (who is now the AfDB President). Now, carry on... wink

I think he asked a genuine question here cos rice is still quite expensive compared to pre-Buhari era. But what I see is that the rice produced here is probably shipped to Cotonou and then shipped back to Nigeria for higher gains. These things happen.

I don't understand the celebration. We became the largest producer of rice in Africa only because Egypt dropped its 4.3m tons annual production by 40%. We didn't overtake them, so please thank Egypt for stepping down and not Buhari.

Also, see this simple yearly production summary below. You would see that rice production in Nigeria has been on a consistent increase since 1960. This is attributable to one major factor: Population Growth!

Everything is should not be about politics.
