In a new twist late Monday in Owerri, it emerged that Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha is mulling the idea of backing Ikedi Ohakim of the Accord Party for the Match 9 Imo governorship election.

This information was exclusively disclosed to Daily Sun by one of the governor’s closest aides who hails from Ideato North, Okorocha’s maternal home. He asked that his name not be used in this report.

According to him, Okorocha feels that he has put his legacy at great risk by backing his ambitious son-in-law Uche Nwosu to succeed him. The source stated that Rochas is blaming “Uche Nwosu’s vaulting ambition as being responsible for him losing his grip on Imo APC and earning the hostility of the national leaders of the party.”

This new development comes on the heels of APC’s suspension of the Imo state governor from the party amidst allegations that he resorted to duress to have himself declared winner of the February 23 senatorial election in Orlu, in addition to his battles with politician Hope Uzodinma.

When asked why the governor would prefer Ohakim to the other candidates, the source said: “Rochas wanted someone more dependable than the rest. He also wanted someone more humane and with executive political experience. Ohakim also comes with the appeal of one-term, which will give Rochas room to again be politically relevant in 2023.”

Our source says that Okorocha’s last minute change of heart reflects that he now sees “Uche’s ambition as a sinking ship and he wants to jump the ship before it sinks.”

He added that the governor was concerned about the public perception that resources of Imo State are being wasted on a “forlorn project that is now imperiling his entire family and his legacy.”

Power is indeed intoxicating. This is a man whose first and second term gubernatorial elections were inconclusive. He won both by rerun. Now he is parading himself as the godfather of IMO politics. Saturday is near.

IMO people will decide whether it's democracy they want or familocracy.

Okorocha only has himself to blame. He cannot put the blame on his son-in-law; he can only put the blame on himself for wanting to play god.

He is going down; and will remain irrelevant in the Senate whatever he does now.

This is a confused man. I'm still wondering the theory of secret allegiances that bind every founding member of apc that if even they are being slap or kick in the a s s by the party leadership yet they will remain in the party. The sworn allegiance is a very strong one and the cultist Lord or the Shrine priest that gave them the thing to drink is a very strong man.

This is one of the most strongest cultist oath I have ever seen. Ambode turned errand boy yet he remain, Amosun being thrash yet he remain, okorocha being disgraced yet he remained, Ajimobi too yet he still remain this is strong thing really strong as if their life is online if attempt to change gear.

Confused set of people. none of these politicians have the interest of the masses at heart in pursuit as politicians: for them it's all about selfishness, personal interest and the desire to always remain relevant. that's why they can jump ship and pot, even to hell to achieve this purpose. lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

It is not juju.

I think, they figure remaining is their best play. Actually look at Amosun and Okorocha, they both are going to the Senate. Ajimobi's loss was a surprise. Ambode knows there is absolutely no way he can go against Tinubu, he could well remain an errand boy with the hope of redeeming himself.

But the long and short is that Nigerian politicians lack integrity and are too selfish driven and hence the decisions they make.

All this one term scam never works.

Ohakim was already governor from 2007-2011 when he was defeated by Okorocha, so he can only do 1 more term
