For some days, a common sight at BRT bus stops in Lagos state is an unusually large crowd of commuters waiting for the arrival of an available BRT bus.

These commuters are sometimes subjected to hours-long wait for BRT buses. In the evenings, it gets worse. Then, commuters wait much longer for the arrival of available buses.

[
From our investigation, it was discovered that the scarcity of fuel at the fuel dump of the sole franchisee of the Lagos BRT service was the reason for the scarcity of available buses at BRT bus stops.

Further investigations revealed that the management of the BRT franchise operator in Lagos – Primero Transport Services Limited – is experiencing a face-off with their suppliers of fuel.

This situation has warranted the withdrawal of some buses in their fleet from the roads, thus causing a shortage of active BRT buses.

Primero Transport Services Limited was established two years ago to operate the BRT buses from Ikorodu to CMS.

His Excellency Mr. Akinwumi Ambode launched the operation of the company on 12 November 2015

Primero commenced its BRT services with 434 Youtong high capacity buses.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Primero Transport Services Limited is Mr. Fola Tinubu.

This should not be happening in Africa's fifth largest [soon to be the third largest

Of course, there's a direct pipeline from Aje field to Primero depot.

Subjecting people into this kind of stress because some people refuse to do their work

I hope they sort it the issue out on time and whoever is responsible in the first place should be punished

We Nigerians often just love to chase shadows rather concentrate on substance. If fuel is the issue, solve the fuel issue. SMH

So, if Primero that has the monopoly to use the BRT lane is messing up, they should not have anyone competing with them for the use of the BRT lane, is that your point?

How are they messing up? Do they manufacture fuel? shocked

You should try to find out what is actually the issue with the fuel suppliers mentioned in the story before jumping to the conclusion that they are messing up (and for the record, I do not profess to know what the reported dispute is). The primary reason that Nigeria struggles to attract investment is the now widely-held perception (actually a reality in most cases) that Nigerians disregard the sanctity of contracts. An investment in about 450 imported BRT buses is not beans (and unlike LAGBUS buses, they have remained relatively well-maintained), and the contract attendant to such a massive investment should not discarded arbitrarily - particularly as it one of the rare success stories in Nigeria.
