And someone actually liked this. Ignorance is actually contagious. Now tell me which state of the Federation has actually been able to insulate its economy from the rest of Nigeria to such an extent that its citizens 'live in a better economy' or has a higher standard of living than the rest of us. Tell me where the America is in Nigeria because I have been to all the States of Nigeria and I cannot make that out.

The Unitary structure of Nigeria cannot permit any one if its constituent States to change the general economic narrative of the average Nigerian. Just as a State Governor is a phantom Chief Security Officer of his State (office without authority) and can do nothing about robbers, thieves or bandits so no Governor can be the Chief Economic Officer of his State.

For a State to control is economy it will need to control its fiscal and monetary policy framework. It will need to control its income and expenditure and it will need to control its finances starting with its own independent central bank just as in the United States where each State has its Reserve Bank. Today a Nigerian State cannot source its own credit on the international money market at its own terms.

So when we say only restructuring is the way to development we know exactly what we are saying. And it is this self delusion we Nigerians are wrapped in thinking roads and schools and electricity and railways will bring automatic development... without the proper framework of a competitive democracy where the sky is the limit for political office holders.

We are yet to know how to develop. He doesn't have the power to lift anyone out of poverty. No State Government has under this 'allocation and spend' Unitary System.

Another thing i like about the state is how they show it's possible for a state gov't to save money by embarking on these kind of projects without having to run to Julius-Berger that will quote you tens of billions of naira...if not dollars! This helps to keep the money withing the state. You can see quality hasn't been compromised as well...which isn't usually the case with projects in other states that use local contractors!

On a serious note, other state gov'ts need to do a peer-group review (if that's the term it's called) and compare notes with Ebonyi to see how they can save money on project implementation in their states! The concrete rural roads in Ebonyi done on a shoestring budget are the revelation of the decade!

Roban store bread is the best bread I've even eaten in Nigeria.

I visited Abakaliki for the first time in January this year, I must confess their Governor is one of the underrated governors in Nigeria.
The city is beautiful especially at night, good network roads and security.

They need decent eateries and good nightlife for night crawler like me

See, appreciate good work when you see it. Umahi is doing exactly what EVERY SERIOUS GOVERNOR will do in a state. Ebonyi is TRANSFORMED under 3 years. And is still transforming.
