Please what is the meaning of this 'Interim' title? Are there 2 belts in a division?

Good day ,

I've been meaning to start a thread for mixed martial arts fans on this forum .

Also more importantly to embrace new comers and potential fans to this sport .

I've only seen a few people here but everyone is welcome.

I will modify my posts to educate and inform old , new or casual fans on what's going on .

There's more to the sport than Connor McGregor .

Well to me the biggest event coming up in 2 weeks time is UFC 223 ... which features 2 very very interesting fights .

Tony Ferguson ( interim lightweight champ ) vs khabib nurmagomedov .

Cool things about this two fighters :

Khabib is Russian ...he's undefeated and holds a record of 25 - 0 . He has never even lost a round in his entire career let alone a fight . ( He is one of the reasons why Connor McGregor doesn't want to fight at the moment in my opinion ) .

As for Tony Ferguson well he has this crazy unpredictable style of fighting ...he has a submission move which is just unbelievable called the imanri roll ...besides that there's his custom d'arce choke amongst others . Tony Ferguson is on a 10 -0 fight streak record .

The cool thing is both of these fighters are good on the ground and possess a wide range of grappling techniques .

The second fight is Rose namajunas vs Joanna Jędrzejczyk: for the women's straw weight title .

This is actually a rematch as in the previous fight rose the Challenger , against all odds beat Joanna . This feat would be akin to Newcastle beating arsenal back then . ( You get the point ) .

So that's that for now . I guess I will start by giving some random news from the world of MMA .

Also to the WWE fans I implore you get involved with MMA ...it's very very interesting .

Thank you .
Where can I learn mixed martial arts?

It's a number one contenders title and it also gives you a ppv points so when you headline the PPV you get more money...... But it looks shit this days with UFC

YouTube. Just put 'ss' in front of the 'youtube' url, and click enter. That way, you wont have to keep going back there to watch the video.

Go to the stadium in your state on a Saturday morning and ask around.... Or go to a major gym and ask. They're there, but at this time, I think Taekwando, Karate, Boxing and Kung-Fu are the most prevalent. I've never seen a BJJ, Muay Thai or Krav Maga centre.

Hahahahaha.
It took a full year for this to hit frontpage.
I thank God for Super Sports, if not for them Nigerians will still remain in the dark concerning MMA.
I always saw this as a bloody pointless sport but gravitated to it after a while.
Consuming boxing and having the opportunity to watch their fights continuously [Trigger TV] made me see the skill and sportsmanship involved.
To people who say healthy individuals should look a certain way, why is there no specific MMA body?
Why are fat Roy Nelson, Mark Hunt and loosely bodied Cain Velasquez champions in their own right?

There was a thread I care across once where Nigerians advertised an MMA school and their homegrown competition of sorts.
I guess it wasn’t a hit because no other themed threads accompanied it.
I wouldn’t mind joining an MMA school for defense purposes.
I am already very fit so won’t gain much in that aspect.
I still am and will remain a WWE fan.
Knowing it was scripted reduced my enjoyment but there are too many aspects to enjoy nonetheless.

Does the UFC do any other thing?
It seems the only activity the organization arranges is their monthly PPV competition.
Aren’t there any other shows within the month they televise?

I don't get why you people just condemned WWE, just because they showed Nigerians the behind the scenes, to let us know that it was scripted.

WWE holds every week, if they hit and destroy each other how will they appear every week to entertain people?

Boxers fight Once or Twice a year, UFC fighters fights 2 or 3 times a year.

While WWE entertains all through the year.

My issue with you people is, stop condemning it, its not their fault Nigerians were gullible (during the 90s) to think people will hit their selves hard every week for a whole year.

The problem WWE had was there are no more interesting characters like Stone cold, Hulk, Rock etc These guys laid a legacy that the young guys in the business now can't override.

@first bolded.... No wonder new comments were made here, at first I was shocked to see new monikers all commenting within such a short time range. It's usually one new moniker in almost two or three months grin grin grin

@second... I don't think there are other shows, but you can also check out Karate Combat..

El Cigano with the second round KO.

Would love to see him with Ngannou or DC pretty soon

Saw an interview of Jon Jones talking about fighting Israel Adesanya if he moved up to Light Heavyweight from Middleweight. Agbaya! Why not move up to Heavyweight and fight the likes of Ngannou, Lewis, Velasquez and Curtis Blaydes
Adesanya is the only person that can fight Jon Jones but since Adesanya is a light weight fighter, he will still have to take some time.

Nobody can beat Jon Jones for now.

I want Adesanya to stay at middleweight. Adding 20 pounds to his frame is unnecessary! He's a skinny guy

Jon Jones na agbaya. Why is he afraid of moving to Heavyweight? He has dominated Light Heavyweight so why not move up to fight the Blaydes, Derrick Lewis, JDS and Ngannou's of the world like Cormier did

Lol, weight too matters, he is too skinny for my liking as a fighter. He gat the ability and the skills but his weight will begin to tell on him when he encounter thick fighers. Anthony smith always look solid on the ground.

I think asking Jon Jones to move to Heavyweight makes more sense than asking Israel Adesanya to move to LH and face the best fighter in the history of the division. Let Jones move up

Jons will perform. With the way he handled smith, it will take a very technical fighter to take him down. I never knew he could handle Smith that way, i've always thought smith is a bad ass nigga. UFC commenters have predicted Smith will counter all the sudden attack from Jones. I'm still yet to understand how jones fights, i'm sure he will perform but let him enjoy his light-heavyweight first before he moves up. I just see same potential in Adesanya, except he is not a brutal fighter, UFC is not for soft hearted people. He just have to be more brutal and top his present division.

But na those ladies i dey pity. Omo, UFC na one of the wickedest sports i've ever seen. No mercy for the weak. I'm sure dem go still beat person to death inside that octagon one day.

But Smith is not really a true Light Heavyweight. He moved up from middleweight to take on Jones.

On paper Jones is equipped with all the tools to conquer at Heavyweight but I'm sure he has his reasons for not wanting to move up there. He's teased fights with Brock Lesnar in the past and I'm sure he's watched DC and is thinking if DC can do it surely I can. Though I also saw an interview of him talking about the risks of moving up to fight DC at Heavyweight.

Enjoy? Jon Jones has fought at LH for like 8 years now. IMO he has nothing left to prove in that division. Jones is a unicorn! I don't know if I've ever seen a more complete fighter with no real weaknesses. He's not the heaviest hitter but his reach is so long it will keep you at bay and occupied so much so you have little chance to mount your offense. And his kicks!! It's like fighting with a giraffe! This nigga is like Dhalsim

Adesanya is not brutal? Are you sure? I don't think Derek Brunson or Anderson Silva will agree oh

But i think Smith is LHW na, i think he's number 4 in LHW sef.
Smith and Adesanya can't be in same rank na, or else smith will just be beating all of them for that level.
If Jones still wan hold title more, abeg free am, it's better to be king in LHW than a loser in HW grin. Some times, staying relevant in fighting may involve staying away from fighting some people who will open ur yansh for whole world to see.

Lol, That Adesanya silva pics though. But if you watch their fight, their fight look like play play somehow, although one will always enjoy his skills and moves. For Adesanya Tavares fight, e get some knee kick chance wey him dey get, him go just use style free his opponent, if smith get that kind chance, blood go full the whole octagon. Some UFC fights and fighters are really scary and really brutal.

UFC is some bloody shiit. It's safer to be a boxer than a UFC fighter. Omo, i dey always fear that ufc, always looks like they will beat themselves to death.
