One producer in zBenin city relocated to Badagry because of price of coconut in Benin, from the time of Buhari.

If you can get fairly big coconut for say 120-200, then, with an expeller machine you can make 1 litre with about 1900-2300. And you can sell your 1 litre for a minimum of 3500-5000.

My passion for it intensified when I accompanied my aunt who is a nurse in a hospital to immunize her child and the nurses were telling mothers to stop using powders on their babies instead oil (preferably coconut oil) so as to avoid nappy rash. Also some researches I did on it I found out several uses of coconut oil on skin including curtailing wrinkles etc.

It is lucrative if you've got the market. I've been into it for the past 2 years. I do not extract mine myself though. I get mine from Badagry. Would make more sense if you can be a distributor. With that you sell faster and your brand gets to a larger market.

The business of Coconut Oil is not very Lucrative in itself, but the value chain is lucrative as a whole. Now it depends on which points you position yourself. I carried out a detailed study in 2017 as a Business Development Consultant to a prospect for Bank Loan. My conclusion was to advise the client against it.

For you to run the processing aspect profitably, you must operate at least medium scale and sell by-products in addition to the VCO. Such by-products include the husks, the shells, white coconut powder/flakes (if you are into cold-press VCO method) or coconut cakes (if you are into hot-press method).

Interestingly, coconut powder is even more expensive than the VCO (except where high level packaging and selling to exclusive niche of beauty product enthusiasts). The cakes are also highly acceptable in Animal feeds, such as fish feed making.

The shells and husks have versatile application and conversion into a wide range of products (I'm not telling for free!)

To ensure highest yield, It is advisable to acquire imported fully automatic turnkey processor.

Also note that your profitability with the VCO will greatly depend upon the coconut types, such as Ghana, Badagry, etc. Each have varying yield capabilities and pricing differentials. You also need to consider stability of supply. for this reason, you should consider importing copra from the Caribbeans or Brazil.
