Thank you for the prompt response, please what is the price range for catalytic converters ?

I really don't know.

Varies from vehicle and model.

You can ask on the spare parts threads on NL, and people will give you an idea.

He however said it has affected so many things and the following need to be changed: 8 Valves (4000), gasket (1500) and Cane shaft pulley (1,500). any one that knows about it should please give me some useful hints to better my lot.

your mechanic is right

especially on the cane shaft pulley

all Toyota crown 1975 model have this issue once their timing belt snaps in motion..... especially if the mechanic fixes back the timing belt and car starts ,runs and drives

u must drive it home, and then come back to fix valves, gaskets and cane shaft pulley

Hello everyone,

I want to service my car but I don't know what needs to be done. My car seems very very fine, I changed the oil, oil filter and air filter last November.

A friend of mine said cars need to be serviced every 3 months, I don't know how accurate this statement is. I never serviced my former car that often.

She seems very fine, my dashboard isn't displaying any problems. But you never know, better safe than sorry.

And before anyone asks what I'd been doing for maintenance, I used to take her to the auto dealer where I got her. I don't know what they did, I just showed up for appointments.

And no I can't go to my dealer because I moved back to Nigeria and brought my car with me.

I read through this thread and everyone keeps mentioning "scans" So do I take her to a mechanic and simply ask for a car scan? Or just wait for the dashboard to say there's a problem? How do you know what to check for?

Please don't be mean or unnecessarily sarcastic, I genuinely do not know anything.

You didn't mention the make/model of the car.

Servicing depends on the manufacturer recommended schedule and your usage of the car.

5000 Miles covered or 6 months is a reasonable rule of thumb

if you aren't driving the car hard all the time, 3 months is probably too soon to service.

whatever you do, when you need to service or fix your car go to a proper garage or at least a mech who is educated and knows the basics of modern vehicles.

there's a few on this forum.

if there's no 'check engine' sign on the dashboard and the car is running fine, i fail to see why you would need a scan.

You could get a general look over and assessment when you go in for Oil Change though. Good garages will do that anyway

Thank you. She's a 2014 Toyota Highlander. I drive her just to work and back nothing major. I already did an oil change but they didn't mention anything about assessment.

Noted 5000 miles, I'll do the math. Thanks again

Your car manual actually does state it's 5000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

I have a quick question. The coolant reservoir in my 2003 lexus es300 bubbles like the hot water used in making Eba. Also, the temperature gauge goes a little above the mid-point during this time. Any solution, please?
Dr. Gazzuzz, Prof. Nurey, anyone?

PS: I don't know the idiot that covered the outlet of the reservoir with a tube embarassed

not a good sign. Check radiator cap and fans.

My mechanic guy has changed the radiator cap. He told me the bubbling has stopped. However, the radiator fan still didn't kick in as expected. In that regards, I'm suspecting the sensor.
I've left the car at his auto shop. I'll update you tomorrow, boss.

Please I need help.
I replaced the gearbox of my Ford escape 2008 last month and last week Friday, I took it for a routine brake pads and plugs replacement with injector servicing.
Now the car doesn't change gears, it drags when I want to move and the powertrain malfunction light(according to the owners manual) is on.
Please what can be the issue??

My Ogas in the house, please and please come to my rescue.

GAZZUZZ:

A worn out brake rotor (brake disk) is responsible, its caused by an un-even surface. Have them replaced and problem will be solved.

Also try and get original brake pads, the fake ones in the market wear out the rotors quicker than normal.

750-800 rpm with ac on or off

But mine shakes ando sometimes stalls the engine when the ac is on in very slow motion or during a stop or reverse in low speed, what could be the cause but on speed no problems at all.

for your model it could be very simple or very complicated. What is your engine type? Take a picture of your engine bay.

Dear Gazzuzz I own a Hyundai accent 2012 which I use for Uber. Do you have a branch office or associate of yours in Abuja who specialises on Hyundai repairs?

I'd be grateful if you could recommend me to one or two...in case of incasity
