She got upset   and started talking blah blah blah. The interview was conducted at d end of d day and i left for good.Eventually i got my visa.


LoL,when i got to JFK airport,the immigration officer at d entrance asked for my passport which i humbly and gladly released to him but to my suprise again,the lady asked me if i was in America for a visit or work and quickly told her d same thing i told d other lady at their embassy "AS YOU CAN SEE" (my passport with 6 months visa.SHE WAS STARING AT THE VISA PAGE). O boy,she equally got upset saying i was rude for saying that but at d end of d day,she asked me to go after looking at me for a while and since then,i ve stopped using AS YOU CAN SEE

I have different experience but the best one was the one at british embassy, the lady took her time to check all my docs and ask if she can make copies of the original and i said yes sure.
She came back and said thank you and we will call you when your VISA is ready. it was real surprise to me, call me exactly one week after i got a call to come pick my passport and i just smiled. And the airport was sweet, the girl just checked my passport typed some stuff and said welcome and enjoy your stay

I was working for the Swiss Embassy in Abuja so I really didn't have any problems. My first visa was the schengen visa. I didn't need to go for an interview or anything. My boss sent a letter with my passport to the German Embassy in Lagos and a week later my passport was back with a multiple entry visa in it!   I spent Christmas with my sis and her family in Germany

The next year i decided i wanted to go see ground zero, once again, my boss typed out my letter and my passport was sent off to the American Embassy on a Monday. By that Friday I had my visa.    

I guess working in a diplomatic office helped avoid all the hassles!

Almost as soon as I finished youth service, someone approached me that they could get a cover letter from a Royal father that was friends with Walter Carrington (US Ambassador). He said the Royal father only needs to write a letter of introduction to the Ambassador and that was it. We got the letter, we were preped by the woman in charge of the phoney arrangement and we all went to the embassy. we were told to say 1). we do not know anybody in the US so we would be staying in the Hotel. 2). our current occupation is weaving which is the family/ royal business and we were going for sight seeing as realtives of the King (with different surnames o). Of course they refused us. she chopped my 5K

Fast forward to two years later. I now had a job with a multinational and I wanted to visit my folks in the US. I was using the same passport (I had vowed that I won't do any shady thing to get any visa in my life). In my application, I now said I have a sister in the US who is a citizen, my parents have resident permits, I also wrote my true profession.  I was not feeling too scared when It was my turn for interview until I peeped into the lady’s cubicle and I saw my long neck in the old application form. I nearly pissed because I remember the contradictions. The interview started

Oyibo: How long has your sister been in the US?
Me: about 10 years

Oyibo: How long has your parents been in the US?
Me: about a year

O: so why did you say you did not know anybody in the US two years ago?
Me: well… she actually did not support my move because she felt I would be denied since I do not have any serious ties in Nigeria. SO out of annoyance, I refused to mention her or acknowledge her in the application.

O: You also said you were a weaver and now you are a “bla bla”
Me: yes I wrote weaving because that was what I was doing that time. I was just out of school with nothing doing and it was a family thing so it was easy for me to join the business. I have tried to drive a taxi after then, I have already gone back to school for my masters degree before I got this job. SO my occupation would have been different if I was here each of those times.

O:You actually have 1000 naira in your account
  I looked up from the document to let her know she has not seen the second page, and then I saw her smiling nicely at me. She was pulling my legs. I smiled back and I knew God has done it

O: You are single?
Me: yes, but I’m getting married in 5 month’s time by the grace of God
O: it’s not the grace of God. It’s if she says “yes”
Me: she said yes already.

At this point I was almost shaking with joy. I went and came back. Yet I was refused twice after that. A few years later, I got my first 2 years multiple visa and it has been good stories since then.

I just wanna ask people if they ve been treated the same way i was treated in these three african contries:Kenya,Egypt and ethiopia in course of my job.Guys,u need to see the way i was treated,honoured and respected just because i said i m from Nigeria. I couldn't believe it initially but few days later i started carrying myself like Obama. Believe it or not,they looked at me as if Nigeria is ,

You need to see how 9ja celebrates visa, 1n 2007 i went to Germany , in their embassy in lagos a girl started dancing after seeing that she got visa.The visa officer called her and told her that they want to make sure that the visa number was okay and immediately cancealed the visa.

I have seen those type of thing in south African embassy , and many other places.

sharing experince is fine, but mind what you give out because it might be used to aganist others.

My first visa interview was at the BHC on 18 March 2003, i was an undergraduate then, and meen, suffer wan kill me dat time, (late father, mom was a tailor, poor background etc), truth be told, omo, i wanted to "run away"

The oyibo just looked at my face and said, "sorry, i wont be granting you a visa", i didn't even hear anything she said afterwards, my life came crashing around me (or so i thought)

Fast forward to 2011, i have been around the world (US, Europe, Asia etc). i even sponsor my siblings and mother abroad,

I guess what i'm just trying to say is this: Even if you are refused a visa today, don't worry, God has BIGGER and BETTER plans ahead for you!!!

I applied to the canadian embassy 4yrs ago with help from a few friends, i am down in australia now after applying twice, funny in naija visa dey hard but if u don travel na easy thing, been to south africa, Japan and already have my US visa , heading there when its not freezing , best advise na don't stop trying, just stick to the same parley and anytime dem ask u about ur history , u go need to yarn enough nonsense about ur life history,

Mine was the British Deputy High Commission in Lagos in 2003, it was for a student visa and as far as I recall I wasn't really nervous.  I had read up a lot about what I needed to present and I was quite confident that I was well prepared.  The interview went very smoothly; I can't remember the questions anymore, but I remember that a lot of my documents/supporting letters were only glanced at.  I do remember the feeling of elation when I was told to return for my visa at noon that day.  I stepped out of the BDHC grinning, knowing that my flight was only a few days away!  I have obtained a few visas since then, and attended a couple more visa interviews.  I'm now "permanently" settled with my family in the UK.

Getting a visa is a big deal in many parts of the world, especially those which don't enjoy a visa waiver to many (or any) other nations.  No shame in celebrating, I say!

@ Ikennahill, well that is because we as Nigerians have a particular 'culture' and experience with immigration, visas and travels hardly experienced by any other nationals except Indians and Pakistanis. our Visa stories are legendary and worth sharing and laughing about. if it grosses you out, dig further into that hole of yours in the corner of the earth and die hibernating, hiss

I have not really had visa interview experiences, couple of yrs ago, i attended one in USA embassy in Southern Africa and i was denied cos i don't have strong tie to that country and i was asked to go back to Nigeria to apply, the same month i applied for UK visa and was given without going for an interview.

YOU GUYS ARE SO FREAKING HILARIOUS, BASKETMOUTH PLUS I-GO-DIE NO REACH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was back in 2001 when i went to the BHC Lagos, then we use to have a very long queue with people having to start joining queue from 3am in the morning.
Got there submit my application and the guy looked at it and ask me if i have my tax clearance with me because my application is quite straight forward, i said now and he schedule an interview date for 3 months later.
when the interview date finally come, i was in the waiting room and i notice some arrangee moves going on in the embassy, the security men were sending some people to one particular boot and everyone coming out from there were smiling. when it was my turn, they ask me to go to another boot but i refused and entered the one they have been sending their own arranged people to, got there, the guy look at me asked me for my name and date of birth and said, you visa has been approval, come back in 2 days to pick it up, i was overjoyed.

, lol this is really funny, a man's feets must be planted in his country but he must grow and his branches must extend to see other nations of the world. These are interesting stories, pls let's keep 'em coming
