"Gba fun Olorun Airways" means "Surrender to God

Okay... I love Airbus products. The first Airbus I ever flew
aboard was a Nigeria Airways Airbus A310 in 1988

to Abidjan in Cote d Ivoire... just next door to
Ghana and it was a fantastic, wide body aircraft. I also
flew back to MMIA Lagos from Abidjan on board another A310.
Nigeria bought 4 Airbus A310s in the 1980s and non ever
crashed.

I have also flown aboard the Boeing 787 Dreamliner
and it was pure heaven. Premium Economy section.
Very sleek plane IMHO.

Airbus products give me more confidence though
because they seem to have less historical aircrashes in
my opinion. So, yes I give it to Airbus and look
forward to flying that big bird called Airbus A380
before they phase it out like they did to the Super
Sonic plane called Concorde, which was phased
out by British Airways and Air France after the
very fatal plane crash in France in the year 2001.

All the best!
You flew Nigeria Airways in 1988? shocked. I never knew we have responsible elders in this forum. Massive respect Sir.

I heard Boeing is currently working on producing another Sonic plane just like Concorde. That plane was on fire back then.

Yeah, NL has real people who are members, otherwise I would
have stopped using NL because of some trolls who populate
especially the politics section. Since 2005 that I started using
NL, I have met a lot of good people and wrapped up businesses
on here.

Concorde was a great plane... unfortunately I never got to
fly on board that plane and I regret NOT doing so. That Air France Concorde
plane crash on July 25, 2000 in France due to a burst tyre which shattered
the fuel tank as it was taxing off from the tarmac caused the tank
to burst into flames and within 6 minutes after take off, it
crashed into a hotel near the airport as it was trying to land
again... killing all passengers and people on the ground as well.
See one of the amateur videos taken by people on the ground
as the plane flew a a ball of flames below:

Last but not least, Nigeria Airways was an iconic airline
with up to 30 planes in the 1980s, but the mismanagement of the
late 1980s right up to the early 2000s killed it. I was very proud
of Nigeria Airways then and even the Airbus A310 was the biggest
and widest of the planes in the Nigeria Airways fleet aside from
the leased Boeing 747 planes. Nigeria actually ordered for
those 4 Airbus A310s from the Airbus factory in France and
it was delivered during the General Buhari headship of Nigeria.

I flew Nigeria Airways several times within Nigeria and to destinations
abroad.

Some corrupt people in government and their wives... and other
family members were entering those planes without paying... and
these are people that could afford to pay. So the new model for
a national career with the impending new Nigeria Air has to be
private sector-led.

Okada Air? Or is it Chachangi?

I have a vague recollection of that joke, which is why I used it in the first place. cheesy

Okada Air.

My brother was travelling from Port Harcourt to Lagos in 1988 or '89. He had tickets for both the Nigeria Airways and Okada Air flights. Nigeria Airways postponed its flight because of bad weather, but Okada Air flew anyway.

There was trubulence throughout the flight and many people were praying very loudly because they thought that they were going to die.

People believed that Okada Air would fly anywhere, anytime and motorcycle taxis are called Okada because people believe that they are just like Okada Air, they will go anywhere at any time.

There were jokes that people rushed into Okada Air planes in the same way that they rushed into molue buses and there was also a joke that Okada Air planes also took "standing" (i.e. that people stood during its flights).

Airbus most definitely. It's made by a consortium of countries in the EU and those people can be fuzzy. Each country produces a part and if they don't agree, it won't fly. This is unlike Boeing which is made solely in the US.... everybody agrees with pastor (so to speak) make church close undecided

I have a friend, a Nigerian too and a former US Airforce officer who now Flys for Southwest Airlines. This is what he told me sometime ago when we discussed these two Aircrafts. He said Boeing is like Toyota while Airbus is Honda and concluded that I should go figure. We laughed it off and gulped down our remaining glasses of cognac and called it a day. I still haven't figured because the only Boeing plane I've ever flown is Boeing V-22. Aside that, all I fly is F-35, F/A 18, EA-6B and a few others. One of the times I came home via Emirate in an A380 jumbo jet, I was allowed into the Cockpit for some reason and the flight control equipment I saw was massive I must say but I think they were unnecessarily excessive.

But Igbindedion was a major dealer for sales of motorcycle in Benin and he sold them in his village Okada, Is that not the reason motorcycles were called Okada ?

No, that's not the reason. Motorcycle taxies are called Okada because, like Okada Air, they can go anywhere at any time.

Basically, the comparison and joke was that, there are times and places that Nigeria Airways cannot fly, but Okada Air will fly.

Similarly, there are places and times that buses and taxis cannot move, but motorcycle taxis will move.

Wow@naptu, Good morning to you!

You had free and/or half priced tickets from Okada Air?
You and your family must have been the "BIG KAHUNAS"
to have enjoyed such benefits. grin

I assume you had aviation professionals in your family to have enjoyed
those perks on domestic or international flights from Okada Air.
grin

The defunt "Okada Airline" was founded in 1983 with rights to fly domestic routes
and international routes in 1992. It folded up in 1997 due to high operating cost and inability
to carry out C-Checks as and when due...leaving behind a lot of aircraft wreckage
at the airports.

I regret NOT flying on board an Okada Air even for once, because it
was an iconic airline... but I flew on other Nigerian airlines such as Nigeria Airways,
Kabo Air, Aero Contractors Airlines, Air Nigeria,Virgin Nigeria, Bellview/First Nation.
