Private schools are overrated here in Nigeria

The students don't know what the real world even look like

Enter any public school like uniben
by the time ekosodin boys collect your phone twice

Just run because them go disposses you of your belongings

You that went to Uniben, can you tell us if Igbinedion University is private university or public university hiding under the name private?? Go to Igbinedion Uni and see first..one would think it's a public uni ranging from the hostels and environment..when it comes to curriculum, Igbinedion uni is like a sister uni to Uniben because their exams questions are set from Uniben..bros, I can go on the whole day telling you how Igbinedion is more like a public school..the rate of spill overs there is very high..stop generalizing everything if not ure bitter..

Private o public o... All na wash... What groundbreaking research have our universities done.... Ebola killed thousands of people in some neighboring West African countries and i haven't seen any research being carried out to impede future outbreaks

Technologically, what contributions have this so called universities made.....
The truth is most schools here in 9ja are just for you to study and pass... Nothing new...

This is absolute rubbish, if exposure one of the criteria for your opinion, you missed it. Currently there is no Federal or State government owned institution that can be compared to Covenant University to mention but one. Madonna University should never be used to rate other private schools, use research and development and patent as yardstick for ranking schools as used globally you will find that no government owned university fits in, this is the reason why they do not make it to world ranking lists.

While there are some Nigerian guys who are actually excited about the idea of attending a private university after their secondary schools, there are even more than thrice the number who don’t wish to, especially those who come from well-to-do families whose parents are always intoxicated with the proposed or assumed good morals and high quality of education their children will benefit from these private institutions.

Not to lie or hide it, private universities do have some good advantages like the absense of the very familiar strike in the federal and state universities and the quicker and better access to lectures but honestly that’s all they can boast of. Forget their forming and poshy lifestyles. Many of them wish they were in federal and public universities. Lol.

I had an encounter with a girl from Madonna university and she confirmed she wished she was in Imo State University as her school was worse than a nursery school in the ways they were being treated.

Going to a federal or state university gives you the exposure you need in life and not being confined like someone in a prison or a food warming in the microwave. You learn the ethics and orientations of the real world and you are braced to face life because you have seen it all.

You gain wisdom outside the school lecture halls and your system becomes automatically adapted to the real life hustles and struggles unlike some over pampered babies in the private institutions who can’t face the real world when they graduate.

Graduating from a public institution gives you a psychological balance and charges your mental ability to scale through difficult times.

Enough of the talk. Let’s roll straight to the point. Here are six reasons private universities don’t suit a typical Nigerian in this our kind of bad economy and government no matter how rich your parents are. C’mon, forget the money, you need to experience life in the public institutions and your life will never remain the same.

Freedom and Independence: You don’t wanna be confined in a place like a baby or someone in prison or a food warming in a microwave. You need space, you need freedom, you need to explore more, you need to move out and experience some things. Unfortunately, going to private universities, especially those owned by the churches won’t help you achieve this and I know deep down your heart, you wouldn’t like this to be your case. You also need to wear that favorite dress you like and you can only do this in a public university. In private universities, you live the normal routine of a bank staff – everyday corporate. Lol.

Cost of Education: Private universities pay exorbitant school fees as if they even learn anything. What has a student from a private university in Nigeria invented or accomplished after all the school fees? Not just about fees, cost of living in private universities are way too high unlike in the public universities where you can cook your own food, go to the market and buy foodstuffs at cheaper prices. Don’t you think you are too old to be fed like a baby in the private university?

Exposure: In a public university, you literally meet life and life meets you. You see it all. But in a private university, you graduate and still haven’t met a quarter of life let alone life meeting you.

Life on and off campus is everything: Like it sounds, it’s just it. Campus life is sweet – on and off it. That’s the kind of fun you will only experience in a public university. No wonder when students in private universities are on break, they want to do all the bad things and have all the fun at once before going back to school. They know they are in prisons and not school. Lol.

Maturity: When you graduate from a public university, you automatically become an adult because the school system has shaped you to be. But when you graduate from a private university, you start life afresh like a new born baby.

Hard Work: Public university will teach you that hard work is compulsory and you will see it with your two eyes. Students in privates schools are still being pampered like nursery school students.

This post is utter nonsense. The standard of education in most Private schools is far better than public schools, and most public schools have sadists as lecturers who are always making education look like it's a do or die affair.

This post makes no sense

I concur with all of this and they are all facts about the private schools. Firms and institutions these days prefer to employ the services of a public or federal university graduate all because they believe that they go through rigorous academic experiences

I rep Unilorin.... they can frustrate your life. All these has really made me wise.

Am currently a student of Landmark University (the sister school of Covenant) most of the things said here are false. You don't understanding how much we have to study to get a first class, u don't know how rigourous the exam monitoring system is during exams, you don't understand the peace and joy in studying in a well air conditioned class with lecturers who want to teach you. You don't understand the joy in having a room with a wardrobe, light, fan, a good desk and space to do your business. You dont know the joy of knowing your graduation date. You don't know the joy of lecturers driving to hostel to hustle students to come hold tutorials. You don't know the joy of being in a serene environment with flowers to refresh u with fresh air. Sure there are some disadvantages but the experience, the discipline, gained from there is incomparable. By the way Covenant University has the most employed graduates in Nigeria. 83%

One day u might be a millionaire and send ur children to a great private university...

Well said bro. You are very on point. Don't mind the OP, it seems he is engulfed with an imaginary misconception. How can you list disadvantages of a better system. This myopic mindset is really amazing and shocking. In most private schools, you work hard for your grades and no lecturer can intimidate you. I was fortunate to pass through a federal, state and private university because my parents wanted me to be a doctor; so l understand the conflicting orientation of students. I started off at unilorin then moved to lautech. I later dropped out and started all over again at covenant university (CU). I hated the rules and regulations but after graduation, l discovered the importance and it made me a better man. Today l operate my own business and wherever l go, the name CU opens doors for me. Today l am married with two kids and don't regret attending CU. My dear poster l pray God will bless you enough to be able to send your kids to a private university because the benefits are too numerous to mention.

PS: not all private universities can be compared to the great standard of CU despite paying similar fees. Some are even far more expensive than CU....

Then you are a biased umpire who has a stereotype view about private university graduate. Your type would gladly employ graduate from abroad forgetting that many of the graduate attended private universities. Instead of watching for competence, experience and skills you are looking at school and certificate. You may end employing people that would wretch your business

Free sex cheesy that's part of the exposure in public universities cool honestly going to private university is like going back to secondary school while studying university courses and being treated as badly as you were treated in secondary school AT AN EXORBITANT FEE, that's the crazy part.. And they label it discipline, discipline my ass, besides anyone can get a certificate at a private university without attending a class grin na your money kill am, but still there are good private universities and all have their reasons for being sort of strict, and that's to avoid cultisim which is prevalent in public universities, some private universities are too small tho

PS the only the thing affecting public universities is government funding, which is what appointed unions like ASUU keep fighting for, if your VC knows what he's doing he won't just pocket the money and run.. And yea public universities are cheaper options as regards the economy,

there is this saying glittering ornaments like gold passed through fire to become what they are, such is life, if you've never experienced hardship in your life, guarantee that you'll manage tough situations is almost zero
Cultism, arrogant lecturers and poor facilities are still prevalent in many public universities.
