Around last week when traveling to Dubai I used kenya airways I noticed something when we were going
1. The airplane we used from Lagos to Nairobi is like ojuelegba Bus, tight space, no entertainment like movie etc, for God sake we are on a 6 hours journey and no entertainment? ..

2. Then we switched to another Kenya airways connecting to Dubai, this airplane is beautiful everything is condusive, I enjoyed my flight from Nairobi to Dubai ( same kenya airways)

3. On our way back same kenya airways carried us from Dubai to Nairobi, different airplane from the last one beat, condusive all entertainment available

4. Then we connect to another Kenya airways from Nairobi to Lagos, this time around this airplane is worse than point number 1 ,no entertainment, we were packed like sardine..
The worst thing is that 20 mins before we landed AC of that plane stopped working and driver ( yes driver) refused to say anything

Immediately we landed everything turned to HELL, it was damn Hot that if we had stayed 5 more minutes inside that plane, we would have died

How come they treat us like that, why is Dubai that is just 5 hours journey from. Nairobi using good flight compare to Lagos to Nairobi
..we went to complain about our experience as soon as we landed to the Faan staff, and they were just looking at us like strangers

I have video proof of this
As in our own people was just looking at us like we were some kind of strangers

And I had to repost this now because one mode removed it from first page, only God knows why

Lol, I don't even answer any fuckin body. I just tell them to read my lips.
Good for me that I always travel light, with only hand luggage. Sometimes I see the confusion on their faces when they ask me : "is this all ur travelling with"? cheesy grin
Sometimes they will want to show themselves but when they flip through my passport, they will just respect themselves. cheesy grin

Nigerians by default are guilty until proven otherwise. That's why we need to respect ourselves wherever we find ourselves

I must say that the writer's article is not true and is very much out of date.

I travel somewhat frequently (more frequently before than nowadays) and can say that the Lagos airport at least is not this way now (never flown international from Abuja).

No-one searches your luggage by hand anymore, they just scan it in at the point of entry into the airport, then after that you don't meet any other official government agency till you get to passport control after dealing with the airlines and checking in baggage. In my recent years of travelling international, they do sometimes ask me "Oga, anything for us?" while stamping my passport, to which I sometimes reply "Next time" or drop if I feel like, but again, I repeat, I have never felt pressured to do so. And whenever I say "Next time", they smile and wave me through. I've never been extorted at passport control ever.

Even in the bad old days of hand searching luggage when they used to bring out all the foodstuff and other stuff we carry, dropping a well-placed 200 naira note was more of an irritating toll than blatant in-your-face extortion, and anytime I travelled light I never faced any disturbance. I am aware that others might not have had things this smooth in the old days when the airport was a mess, but they've cleaned it up now.

All in all this article does NOT reflect the true state of affairs at Lagos Airport NOW.

You are very right here.
I travel to Nairobi for conferences every now and then and usually like taking KQ. They used to put lovely 737s and once a 787 Dreamliner on that route and it was all good. Now they put the old 737 with no entertainment on the Lagos - Nairobi route, and this is making it less and less attractive to fly KQ.

IO: “is this the first time you are traveling outside the country”?
Me: yes

IO: “ Drop something before I send you back”

Me: I don’t have Naira, ma. I’ve changed all my money into Euros.

IO: “you think I am a local woman abi? You think I have not gone abroad before? You think I can’t use Euros abi. Abeg drop something “

That was my experience at the M.M International Airport in Lagos, Nigeria.

I did not complained. I smile whenever I recall this and many other experience. You won’t know how Nigeria helps you to avoid depression until you leave. God bless 9ja!

Talk for yourself and not for everybody,it always depends on the time of travel and people on duty.

I also don't know why,but people have different missions at the airport,it's a dangerous place. But I don't think they have air-conditioning system that cools the the whole place.

Wicked immigration. I quarreled with one on Tuesday (an Igbo brother) later gave them 2k because am late already for boarding.

Citizen0:
Thank you op, it's terrible. Not only in most of the airports in Nigeria. Even those guys that checks Ebola, very shameful indeed.

Bros when last did they do this, it's been a long time ago na.

Having said that, I personally do not have any of the issues above mentioned. If you factor in the traffic, then try and leave early enough to get to the airport in good time. I'd rather spend 5 hours lounging around the airport than rush to meet with boarding requirements. The closest I had been subtly asked for money in Lagos was when I was going to Kenya. One idiot asked what I was going to do on Kenya and i retorted, what is exciting in Kenya to attract me? He asked how much I had in me, I brought out my course invitation letter that states that my trip was all expenses paid. The conversation ended.

The next time I got a similar silly question was in Heathrow. A co.ck.y english girl asked what I came to do, and I told her I was there to review documents and agree terms with my colleagues in her country. That rubbed off badly. She then asked red faced, how long do you intend to stay, I said if I can get this agreement signed today, I will leave with the next flight out of London. She went on, why the urgency, I said I had a job to go back to. She did not look up, just stamped and handed over my passport.

My point, is, if you plan yourself well and your trip is legit, you don't have to be late for your flight and you you don't have to succumb to any manner of extortion. You could, on your own, appreciate any personnel of your choice depending on the level of service rendered to you.
