If I pay for meter it becomes my property.

People live in rented apartment and you don't expect them to pay for meter and leave it behind when relocating to another place.

This happened to me in Lagos, we contributed money to buy the meter, now I have moved out of the house leaving the meter behind.

Meter shouldn't be individuals responsibilities

I paid 35k for my metre in 2012 and I got it in 2016. I think the price is still reasonable.
Firstly your claim about paying for the meter back in 2012 sounds really dubious because this prepaid meter payment started three or four years ago max.
However, by saying that it's reasonable for the masses to pay almost 70k for a device that is truly worth far less than half of that price shows you off as lacking a capacity to think rationally.
You feel because you paid 35k(as you claim) then it's okay for people to be fleeced into paying 70k today?
You are selfish and unreasonable.

Recently, the Discos claimed they had been relieved from the responsibility of providing meters for consumers under their networks.

They said NERC had taken off that job from their schedule and given to third-party operators under the MAP scheme.

However, NERC swiftly responded that the job of providing meters for electricity consumers was still that of the Discos, warning them not to shirk the responsibility.

NERC need to be investigated..we been shouting for privatization... private investors.... claiming good development.... dreaming of 24/7 electricity... but not thinking of how much it will cost us. Reality is now slapping us in the face. Electricity supply is privatised in many countries... but cost to consumers is tightly regulated and controlled by the local governmemt.

Are you the one that paid it? I paid to IBEDC through a staff that helped to secure the meter which was delivered in 2016.
36k is reasonable not 70k.
I wouldn't want to sound low like you did. I know how to respond to things like you.

Nigerians and complaints sha!

All these people complaining about the price will not be averse to spending similar or even great amounts on buying the latest phones to show off.

Same people who complained about estimated billing and the length of time involved in getting a meter are still condemning this new initiative aimed at resolving these problems.
instead of you to be creative in your thinking, you're just thinking blandly. you could have well suggest that the meter comes with free credit units that will cover part or all of the cost the meter, you're here justifying nonsense.

Will the meter be my property after buying or the electric company's? If it is going to be mine, then I can tweak it as much as I like, but if it's going to be the electricity company's property, then Bleep them! How do you expect me to buy a device that will aid you in billing me?! If you care about billing me correctly, then don't expect me to buy the fucking device.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) says going forward, Nigerians would pay between N36, 991.50 and N67, 055.85 to get electricity meters installed and maintained at their premises by approved third-party meter providers of the distribution companies (Discos). The arrangement comes under the Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) scheme, which NERC signed off for Discos to facilitate massive deployment of meters to electricity consumers, close up the huge metering gap, and reduce the estimated billing practice.

In a statement Saturday made available to Akelicious in Abuja, NERC’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Dr. Usman Arabi, said the commission had issued MAPs permits to agents that were successful in the procurements conducted by Abuja and Jos Discos. It said the approval of MAPs agents for Abuja and Jos Discos was in accordance with section 4(3) of the MAP Regulations 2018, which requires all electricity distribution licensees to engage MAPs that would assist, as investors, in closing the metering gap and eliminating the practice of estimated billing in the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
Accordingly, NERC said Abuja Disco had appointed Mojec International Limited, Meron Consortium, and Turbo Engineering Limited to provide 487,000, 213,000 and 200,000 meters, respectively. It said Jos Disco had appointed a consortium of Triple 7 and Mojec International Limited to provide 500,000 meters to customers under their networks.
The power regulatory agency explained that it had directed that the rollout of meters should commence no later than May 1. It added that customers of Abuja and Jos Discos should expect meters to be installed in their premises within 10 working days of making payment to MAPs, after the rollout date, in accordance with section 18 (3) of the MAP Regulations 2018.

NERC stated, “MAPs shall charge a maximum of N36, 991.50 for single phase meters and N67, 055.85 for three phase meters. These costs are inclusive of supply, installation, maintenance and replacement of meters over its technical life.

“The Commission shall monitor closely the rollout plan of distribution licensees and overall compliance with the regulation and various service agreements by the MAP and electricity distribution licensees.”

Recently, the Discos, through their umbrella group, the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), claimed they had been relieved from the responsibility of providing meters for consumers under their networks. They said NERC had taken off that job from their schedule and given to third-party operators under the MAP scheme.
However, NERC swiftly responded that the job of providing meters for electricity consumers was still that of the Discos, warning them not to shirk the responsibility.

It is your property once you buy it. It is better than estimated billing. I don't think you need to tweak it since the prepaid meter is better than the useless estimated billing. Ordinarily, it is supposed to be given free. We accept whatever the government dishes to us. Nigeria is not a country at all.

I disagree... The price is not reasonable... Did we buy MTN mast in order to receive network from MTN? It is only a country like Nigeria that everything goes... How much is minimum wage? Even the useless governors were shamefully bold to come out and say they cannot pay #30000. Now you expect a Nigerian to buy prepaid meter at #70000. This is a big nonsense.
