I imported an American Spec V-Boot from Canada..... in the late 90's, that was "the bomb". Completely unnecessary at that point, as a first car and a single guy.

At times, a car is cheap to buy but imposes unimaginable financial burden on you, to maintain.
Ask about fuel economy, how much it costs to service it, cost of parts that you have to replace often (Brake pads, Filters) and to some extent, Catalytic converters, disks, Shocks, Headlamps, turn-indicators, Side Mirrors, e.t.c. and how often it breaks down or acts in traffic build-ups.

Are you thinking it should be more expensive?
Did the seller tell you why they want such amount for it (Incase of expensive fault!) or seller just wants to flog it because he needs cash right away or is replacing it.

I once sold a very good car for dirt cheap because l had no more parking space and the car was just idle anyway. Buyer still hails me till today and we even became friends down the line.

Well,everyman to his own.
A sound golf 3 or 4,Toyota corolla 99-2002,Nissan almera and many cars in that bracket can never amount to luxury to anybody who has a reasonable income.
And even here in Abuja that has reasonably good/best in Nigeria transport system,You can't get a cab easily every time except you live in Wuse or few places.
If its early in d morning b4 daybreak, You might have to trek.
Then if you run a business that requires you waka a lot,owning a small car is even cheaper than taking cabs.The cab man is out there to make money too.
Personally, if I were a business man,I'd rather use 2m and rent a good house inside Abuja town than use 70-100million to buy Abuja overpriced houses.

Imagine taking public transport to church with wife and kids every Sunday,your neighbour go come pass you with him own family inside him golf 3 after you done alight from bus stop de trek home under hot sun with your family abi your wife going for immunisation with your baby on public transport then it rains on her way home?
What about d risk of one chance,reckless driving and associated accidents,crowded dirty bus/fellow passengers, wey b say b4 you reach home your white shirt go turn to rainbow ?
There are plenty car brands out there that are cheap to buy and maintain.

My brother, he who wears the shoes knows where it pinches. No matter d plenty talks on land first, I bought a car I can conveniently maintain for the sake of my family. House will still surely come by GOD'S grace, with proper planning. Different strokes for different folks.

Once a civil servant gets to the office, there's almost no movement outside of the secretariat till work closes, so getting a car here is not a necessity but luxury, class and convenient (all these means money).
Whatever you use the car to do doesn't add a kobo to your already fixed salary

Again u made sence while stating some facts. Well am single and use to do the 9-5 back in Nigeria because i was a federal civil servant until i made the choice of travelling abroad .

From my experience, a landed property is the first thing to acquire. Then others could follow. However it is natural to go for a car, saying it is a necessity. Is a car really a necessity relative to a house - the answer is a resounding NO.

Car basically is for prestige and not necessarily a necessity. One can get a cab any time of the day, even by 1am if one sets his priority right.


I also made the mistake of buying the liability before I got my first house, and most persons will never listen to advise. They will go for car before a landed property.

Me getting a car is nececity, not luxury, a day I will never forget was Sunday 7th of April 2019,i had accident on a bike with my myself, my daughter 2yrs old she was even sleeping while we are on bike, my son, and my wife also on same bike, though it rain and the road to my house is not tired being a new site at Akinbo area of lambe Akute, Ogun state, thank God it was late night around 8pm,and we are very close to my house .I was pained. I have been driving a car since year 2000"but I never got my own car. So God need to do it for me soon Wit a good car

Boss car is a necessity for businesses and families. Last year my wife went into labour around 2am. Na where I wan see taxi? Thank God i have a car. Pls don't mention Uber as u don't know if I have a smart phone available. Similar thing happened to a friend, his wife had to give birth in their living room with the help of neighbours as they couldn't get to the clinic that night. Thank God there was no complication.
