Sudan President Omar al-Bashir was removed by the military, Omar al-Bashir has been Sudan's President since 1989,he was removed by the military. but the protest was started by a Woman- Ala’a Salah. This cannot happen in the current Nigeria, because the ladies prefer to be slay Queens, Youths prefer to be Yahoo Boys and the Govt is ready to open fire in a peaceful protest.

Abdelaziz Bouteflika of Algeria and Omar al-Bashir of Sudan are gone, both were forced to resign by protesting youths. The destiny of any nation lies in the youths, the same cannot be said of Nigeria. The youths of this country have lost it.

In Sudan at least there was harrasment by the Armed forces...

They only ceased their harassment over the last few days. Even then, the Sudanese equivalent of our DSS was still active against protesters as at yesterday.

Algeria and Sudan are different from Nigeria.

Algeria has had a president who spent 20 years in power...and was always changing the laws to give himself extra terms.

Sudan had Omar Al Bashir, who took power in a coup, transformed himself into a civilian president, and also kept himself in power by continued elongation.

Then throw in the fact that the opposition has been divided.


Nigeria?... Since we had democracy come back in 1999...the only leader who has tried tenure elongation is Obasanjo...and we know that he lost out. Even his own supporters refused to back him.

GEJ...if he had won in 2015, would have retired by now.

Buhari has basically indicated that he is going by 2023.

Nigeria is a mess....but when it comes to democracy, we are better than some other countries.

Omar al-Bashir steps down - Sudanese president Omar al-Bashir has reportedly stepped down after months of protests, government sources reveal.

A military council is expected to replace him.

On Thursday, anti-government protesters marched through the streets of Khartoum chanting anti-Bashir slogans.

Sudan has been rocked by months of anti-government protests. Bashir would be the second leader in Africa to quit amid nationwide protests this month, following Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika's resignation, reports Bloomberg.

Earlier Thursday there were reports of military vehicles surrounding the presidential palace as well as the TV building.

Sudan state television said on Thursday that the armed forces would make an important announcement soon, amid speculation that a coup attempt could be underway against President Omar Al Bashir following months of protests against his 30-year rule.

Mubarak was an Air Chief Marshal. The highest rank in the Air Force is marshal of the Air Force (equivalent to Field Marshal)

Tantawi who took over from Mubarak and preceeded Morsi was a Field Marshal. He organised elections after the Arab Spring and handed over to Morsi.

Same with El Sisi
