Tanzania under 17

They beat Cameroon 2:1 in one of their last friendlies. Cameroon wasted a lot of chances and should have won the game. The Cameroonians also had weak full backs.

did we even play any friendly game?

We played the Turkish invitational:

Lost 2:0 to Senegal
Beat Montenegro 4:2
Beat Angola 3:1

Tanzania also played in the same tournament
They Beat Australia 3:2
Lost to Guinea 1:0
Lost to Turkey 5:0

Senegal looks like the strongest under 17 team in Africa at the moment if their friendly results are anything to go by.

Nigeria will not beat Guinea. Mark it here.

We do not have a good record against them.

On the other hand this is one of the most disciplined Super Eagles we have had in a while. We might just pull it off.
Our toughest group game will surely come against Guinea but I still see Nigeria taking the day.
But of course, Guinea boasts fine talents like Ibrahima Traore of Mochengladbach, Naby Keita of Liverpool and Amadou Diawara of Napoli in midfield plus Francois kamano of bordeaux and Sorry kaba of elche in attack. Guinea are a decent side but their defence will have a very hard time against Nigeria's attack. In midfield, the addition of Mikel will give us great edge over the Guineans and we have the defence to cage Kamano (Kalu's teammate in ligue 1) if they play true to their disciplined organization.
In all, I see a good match and in the end, VICTORY for the Super Eagles.

Yes we lost 2-0 to Senegal (Owngoalnigeria reported 3-0) but I still suspect Senegal may bottle it at the Afcon U-17 proper. This is just how good their U-20s were pre-AYC and even played in like manner at the proper only to get to the final and freeze. Senegal may look like the strongest side at the moment judging by friendlies but I say let the tournament begin and we shall see who finishes top. Remember Nigeria fielded a mix of prospects for the final list and some of the regulars at that invitational. The team currently in tanzania looks stronger in attack and midfield than the one that was at the Uefa assist tourney/Turkey invitational.
Taking nothing from Senegal though, I expect them to be among the four qualifiers from Africa.

Apart from the Uefa assist tourney in turkey , we also played against a couple of football academies/clubsides in Nigeria. So yes we did play friendly games.

It once said here that the reason I would fancy Nigeria ahead of Senegal is because I am Nigerian. In the WAFU Zone A, Guinea beat perennial achievers, Mali, via penalties in the semi-final but Senegal beat Guinea 4:0 in the final. That's after beating Vape Verde 6:0 in the semis.

That Senegalese team is hot

And they don't concede goals. They seem to be very well drilled.

Even in the Turkish invitational, they did not concede. They are favorites for the Africa tournament and maybe the WC itself.

That said, Mali was hot in 2015 but when they got to the WC final, we got rid of them.

Nah. Not really.
The players,
The level of the teams,
The development,
The organization et al.
It's all improved now. It's not what was obtainable prior to this time.

The players on parade (from the big boys) are of better quality than previously. This is as a result of better organization at the top. There are more FBs in the teams (actual good players), which I daresay is beneficial to the growth of the game in Africa meantime.

I'll say something here, many don't know the ton of good this MRI is doing for the African game. Do you know how disastrous fielding overage players at cadet level is to football development? Do you know that's a big reason the African game is/was not growing? They play with kids at the cadet level then get out there and poof they're gone! They can't keep up. Hence, no continuity, no growth. Nothing. Because they're old men.

You see those under 18s/19s/21s leagues some European countries have in place? Something similar is like having feeder teams playing in lower division league football. Very very important. (Sadly, I don't know how feasible this will ever be across Africa). You need your young players playing regularly in a well structured system (like those leagues). This system of bringing players from all around the place few months before tournaments (like the Manu or Igboun boys, for example) is not the best. A good number of them are not playing serious football regularly. They can never be as good or sharp or nearly as developed football wise as those European kids playing well setup football regularly.

Recently, the system has picked up a bit. You can tell from the young African players who are making it into some good leagues and thriving. (If the trend is sustained or better still improved on we will have even more highly anticipated, interesting AFCONs on our hands and a better showing on the world stage will come gradually but surely).

So generally speaking, this AFCON, talking about the quality (which I'm keenly interested in) should be better. I hope not to see too much drab football.
i also took note of the abundance of goals scored during the qualifiers...it's rare!
