By birth-namely- (a) Every person born in Nigeria after the date of independence (October 1, 1960), either of whose parents or any of whose grandparents belongs or belonged to a community indigenous to Nigeria;

Provided that a person shall not become a citizen of Nigeria by virtue of this section if neither of his parents nor any of his grandparents was born in Nigeria.

(b) Every person born outside Nigeria either of whose parents is a citizen of Nigeria.

(2) In this section, "the date of independence" means the 1st day of October 1960.

Going by above,

i. Since Nigeria NEVER existed until October 1, 1960 as such NOBODY could have been said to be indigenous to a NON_EXISTENT entity.

ii. Even if you were born on on or after October 1, 1960, the very fact that your parents were not Nigerians, that is their date of birth predates October 1, 1960, the you are NOT a Nigerian

iii. Therefore the only people that can claim Nigeria Citizenship are:
a. Anyone whose parent were born on or after October 1, 1960, most like people born in 1980s and above
b. Anybody who obtained citizenship by registration

By simple implication, NONE of Nigerian leaders is a Nigerian and they should all pack their loads and go to the country - Lord Lugards's British colony otherwise now non-existent or already abrogated Niger-area

WE NEED TO TEST THIS IN THE LAW COURT SINCE OUR SANS ARE NOW MAD!!! grin grin grin grin

Please, there is a difference between a colony of Britain and the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria basis which the Nigeria citizen was cited is 1999 Constitution.

What happened in 1914 was amalgamation of Southern and Northern Protectorate to become a British Colony called Nigeria. The British colony is not same as Federal Republic of Nigeria

Guy, read the attached. The constitution says, "We the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria ...", not "We the people of Nigeria ..." While the former refers to a republic existing on from October 1, 1960, the latter would have meant both. Unfortunate,it is what is is grin grin grin grin

If you think otherwise, go to court!
