BascoVanVeli:I would have voiced some more reservations on the goalkeeper but let's leave it, before it would like I'm looking for something. |

TheGoodJoe:What you are suggesting is the reason age cheating still exists. I could say the older players need the chance more and the younger ones have more time. Instead of letting children play a tournament you are thinking about the money that can be made. Don't make it seem like without football there would be no hope because that is bogus. Nwakali has not played a minute for Arsenal. Without the world cup he would have found a team that would do more for his development that is a fact you can't run away from. Arsenal was purely about money. |

darkelf:Ogu/Shehu for Chukweze. Chuks must go to the Nation's cup. If not I will start the #Rohrout campaign. |

BascoVanVeli:I did not say football there would be no hope. I have made it crystal clear. The term is opportunity. The tournament gave Kelechi Nwakali the opportunity to better his life. Jumping to do more with his development is far fetched. I am talking of footie development for the grassroot players. Did Kelechi Nwakali get that? Yes. So why are you bringing him up. With respect to grassroot footie development, it is a rot in Nigeria. For the foreign borns, it is heaven. With respect to grassroot development, the U17 stands as a big opportunity for a very limited amount of kids. How can we justify taking it away for those who have it in luxury. Talking age cheating is off topic because I am talking of developing kids, not men. |

Look at Lateef for instance who penned a Boot deal with Adidas at 13 years old. Do you have an idea the magnitude of exposure he had at 13 before such a deal. The exposure over there is too much. We do not need to bring them to take more slots. They should focus on the U20 that has a more professional spin when they get close to the age bracket while we keep using the U17 for serious grassroot development until we make strides to fix our grassroot football structure. |

Again, you guys are misrepresenting my position. I did not call for a ban on foreign based/born players. My argument is that if the essence of these cadet tournaments is to help develop the game in your country then we are missing the mark by relying on foreign born players at that stage. If we keep running to the countries with a good system and structure to discover talents, then we'll never take the time to discover the talents that are abounds in our own backyard. I am 100% sure that if we get down to work and start scouting the thousands of high schools and dozens of football academies we have in Nigeria, there would probably be no need to go and pluck a 15 year old teenager from his base in the United States - unless he's a special talent, that is. We'll never develop the game at home if we keep relying on already made and already discovered stars abroad. That's just the bottom line. And this is the same argument I have been making about giving our homebased/indigenous coaches a chance to coach the national teams. Anytime we go abroad to hire a foreign coach, what you're telling the indigenous coaches is that they are not good enough. We have even reached the levels of hiring a foreign coach for the women national team as well O pari tbaba1234: |

TheGoodJoe:They have nothing on the players we are developing. Who is the best young player in Spain? Is it even close? The problem is selection of clubs and that has nothing to do with the U17s. |

Icon79:News flash. Thijs Libregts, a foreign coach (who was actually the Super Eagles coach at that time) took over from Tunde Disu to coach the U20 side in Nigeria 99. |

Imagine that! Very soon we'll start hiring foreign coaches for the U-20s and the U17s. O pari TheGoodJoe: |

BascoVanVeli:I do not get your point. And what do you mean by who is the best young player. I do not get you but with respect of football development, we have not scratched the shell of the egg when it comes to Spain. For instance, the academy coaches in Spain are UEFA licensed coaches. They have regional tournaments in Spain and have regional teams of young players. Every club to the third tier have quality academies with high grade professionals. So with such luxury, is it worth taking an opportunity of a boy who has never had a professional coach to give it to a kid from a Spanish academy? Hell no. |

TheGoodJoe:No disrespect but have you been living under a rock? Samu Chukwueze of course. Now who has all that UEFA licensing helped? Samu is hands down better than any Spanish footballer his age. |

BascoVanVeli:How does that equate to over 50 players Samuel Chukwueze's age playing professional football in Spain? You are missing the point thinking Samuel Chukwueze is a reward for our development. Heck, there was a time almost every player in the Barcelona starting line up came from the academy of Barcelona. That is what you call high quality grassroot development. |
