So which do you recommend as an alternative to the Mobil 1?

shortgun:

Am not trying to convince any1 mate ...I know my car like the back of my palm, why spend over 30k servicing an engine that is not more than 50k in the market top down.
Doesn't make economic sense.
The worst is that one will still buy fake oil labelled as Mobil 1.
This what they won't tell u.
They will ask people to revert to Mobil 1 without putting into consideration the history of the car. For Gods seek we don't have a freezing whether here.

Viscosity is notated with the common "XW-XX." The number preceding the "W" rates the oil's flow at 0 degrees Fahrenheit (-17.8 degrees Celsius).
The "W" here stands for winter, not weight as many people think.

The lower the number here, the less the oil thickens in the cold. So 5W-30 viscosity engine oil thickens less in the cold than a 10W-30, but more than a 0W-30.
An engine in a colder climate, where motor oil tends to thicken because of lower temperatures, would benefit from 0W or 5W viscosity.

The second number after the "W" indicates the oil's viscosity measured at 212 degrees Fahrenheit (100 degrees Celsius). This number represents the oil's resistance to thinning at high temperatures. For example, 10W-30 oil will thin out at higher temperatures faster than 10W-40 will.

Actually not working? I guess u own my car to know its not working?
If u like use 0w20 my XHP gets the job done well with enough change to spare.
I wonder why u r not recommending 5w30 Mobil 1 to him since its the approved oil by Benz.
Why are u not recommending Benz battery or Benz coolant?

OK, I like it that u want us to discuss like humans.
The primary purpose of oil is to lubricate moving parts in an engine. All over the world, the advantage(s) of synthetic oil over mineral oil is a subject of debate.
1) sludge: Sludge is not entirely a bad thing.
Sludge will hold a weak seal together for the life span of ur engine. synthetic oils will clean out the deposits that may be holding a weak seal together. This will lead to an engine oil leak that will cause myriad of problems and cost you a lot of money to fix as well.

2.Economy: It is not proven that synthetic oil will give u a better millage than mineral oil, even if this is true the amount u spend on synthetic will cancel whatever gain u make on gas millage.

3. Wear: both mineral and synthetic oils have been proven to decrease wear. Though from test results carried out by some oil companies it was proven that both mineral oil and synthetic oil will decrease wear.
Wear will eventually come cos nothing lasts forever.

Let me stop here for now.

Hello Owners of Car with Class and Prestige, I was just cruising Home when my AC stopped working and the fan alone was working blowing just air, after some time I noticed that the main Engine Fan blade is on high speed and never stopped ,

I have taken the car to AC tech, and he said the AC Power Board just by the Front passenger seat is faulty, I couldn’t change immediately because of the cost but he said it can be Fixed, he took it for fixing and after the AC started working , the AC is working now with condition, It stopped every 6.10 Pm till the next day before it starts working again.

The main Engine Fan Blade since then with start just 20 Secs after starting the car But will not reduce to Low speed or stop until you switch off the engine.

I have done checks by both Electrician and the AC tech, all they could say to me is that I should Change the AC board.
Please could any body say anything about this and how much and where can I get the Board.
The Car is W204

The manufacture recommended 5w20 for that car .. You dey use 20w50. So I guess u know a lot better than than manufacture.. Smh ...#get the strap# if a knowledgeable buyer hears that, the person will never buy that car .. I wish I believe u .. So that civic is still running strong... people like you are the ones that wrecked my uber cars .. Due to the use of wrong engine oil .. People like you are the reasons that I started importing oil ... so basically it means that you will still use 20w50 on a 2018 brand new civic.. Smh ... thank God I have the means to bring in tokunbo cars .. Personally I will never, never ,ever buy naija used cars ..due to the maintenence culture of people like you and Nigerians as whole .. I always advice people when it comes to oil always follow the manufacture advice.
Example below is the ATF for a 2013 Hyundai Genesis for a client of mine. He could have use any ATF ,but he follows the manufacture advice to use the correct fluid.. Those transmission of those cars cost a fortune.. People try and read your owners manual.. It will save you cost and headache in the long run

I tot u will even say u will start buying new cars, tokunbo cars are second hand vehicles.
You don't know what the cars have been through forget that Vin report u believe so much in. Most of the reports are not comprehensive enough or doctored to place more value on the second vehicles.
If you don't know most people in Europe and America where you get ur tokunbo cars from don't know much about vehicles, maintenance or how it works.
Go to YouTube, you will see videos of white people trying to pour in diesel in a petrol car, or petrol in a diesel.
I saw one where a white lady took her electric car to refuel in a gas station.

The truth most people won't tell you is that in grading engine oils winter climates are considered first before tropical regions.
Let me also let u know that the bigger challenge we have here is bad fuel....there is no where in Nigeria that you can get 100% unadulterated petrol. Maybe u will also import ur petrol.
Bad fuel is a vehicles no 1 enemy, its worse than bad oil.
Whatever you think you are doing right you will eventually need another car tomorrow. So why spend a fortune on a vehicle that u will eventually replace?

I had this same issue with my W204 but i changed my compressor. With regards to the engine fan blowing at high speed, look for star scanner to to check the car. If you go to Clegg street in Ojuelegba, shouldn't cost you more than N3k to N5k. The thermostat should also be checked.

Personally I have never had any issues importing cars from Yankee.. The cars that I do buy are from private owners and some are from auction.. But at the same time it is not like I import 50 cars a year.. And also the issues that I do have at times with the cars is rust.. The states that I buy from tend to get a lot of snow.. But overall have had more good cars than bad ones..
From my experience bad oil and use of water instead of coolant is the number one killers of cars on Nigeria.. Let me break it down for u .. I started investing in uber when uber was still fresh in Nigeria.. I had cars been managed for me . And every time the car is always having issues, sludge, engine smoke etc .. It got so bad that I had to remove sludge from all my cars.. So I ask the manager what is going on ,he said engine not strong, your cars are not built like Toyota etc .. So I Google what causes sludge in cars.. So now I ask the manager what oil does he use for my cars.. He said Total oil 5k naira ...but what grade do you use.. He says total and total is good oil.. But I said the car requires 5w30, but he said total is ok.. I shook my head.. And I now went into more research about engine oil .. The benefits of synthetic oil and mineral oil .. Types of oil etc when to change oil .. Did research on Mobil 1 oil and castrol oil etc. So I than started with castrol till I was able to settle with Mobil 1oil . So I personally use them and sell them.. I notice that mostly Nigerian do have the same attitude towards car maintenance, between mechanic and car owners I can't tell which ones are worse or ignorant.. A lot of them fail to educate themselves.. Mind you I can't even change tire at or do my own oil change.. But I notice a problem that was causing me to lose money and I look for answers.. All these oil stuff are just basic things that people should know about, but sadly people don't bother . Ever since I started using the correct oil, my cars are doing better..
My experience is that lack of good engine oil is the number one reason or one of the reason of car issues with cars in Nigeria.. They are others reasons too ,but trust me wrong engine oil will be top 5 .. ..
Ps. I had to replace 80% of my cars on uber due to wrong engine oil .. And started all over ( true story).
