He said there’s little impact on the car and that takes away the clean title. If you add 400-500k duty then it’s high. 2.4 for 2006 Corolla.

Well!

Until I run or see comprehensive VIN check on the said car.

If your Corolla is 06 then 2 Million Naira is too High by the time you add Custom Duty you're looking at 2.5 million Naira for 2006 Corolla.... in 2019

Bro, i exhausted all my options before buying that car.

This same opinion of yours is the major reason Nigeria car dealers don't buy clean titled cars.

The person that bought the car for me put everything at 2.3 million. Although high, but it's still fair looking at the condition of the car.

The fact is there are people who can do that for you but they will have to bribe their way through. The implication of such is that it is usually like 50/50 chance for you to get genuine one.

They have told you how much custom papers would cost, the real question is are you ready to foot that bill. The amount you paid for the vehicle is exorbitant.

You paid custom fees to Benin republic but ommitted that of Nigeria reason why paying real duty is cheaper at tin can than from Benin republic.

I don't really see the big difference between a 2003 corolla and a 2007 corolla maybe because we have 2 of them and I have weighed them side by side. The only difference I know is in CE with manual windows grin all the other corolla years are identical except sport which wears skirt join the leggings tongue

Bolded got me laughing...... Actually I think the only difference between the 03-07 corolla is the automatic lock that was introduced from the 05 to 07... Except that we are just buying the same Car at different price

Thanks for your input and recommendation.

You may be right that there is no significant physical difference between corolla 2003-2007 and partly 2008.

But their interior may differ.

At this time, I am only able to pay 300k at most for the custom papers.

You can't decide how much you are willing to pay, it is a standard payment obligatory by the government for rite of passage into the country by vehicles in such year.

if you have only 300k please keep the money in the bank and vehicle well stored in your house in Lagos and enter public transport to the East. ABC transport has cars with AC to the East if you are afraid of flying or its above your budget.

When your money reach what government is demanding then you do the custom paper thing in a legit manner. All the best

Too much sense will not kill you..

Another option will be to keep the 300k in his pocket when travelling, budget 100k Bribe for the customs guys

If the corolla is as clean as the guy claims.. With new lagos plates intellectual property.. E sure me die!! customs must stop am..

Actually, the average price of a clean title 06 corolla with less than 130k miles, 1 or not more than 2 owners is around $4-5,000 excluding shipping (Some can even be as high as $6,000 trust me). This is why it is not a good business strategy for dealers to bring in clean title cars because they are going to stay long on the stand without someone buying them. It is only a few that understand the goodness of clean title cars and those ones are better off making the pre order themselves. Imagine 06 corolla for $5k, thats around 1.8m excluding shipping and clearing and by the time u add profile how much dealer want come sell am?

I am not talking about OP's car in particular, just saying clean title cars are not cheap, sometimes 4-6 times more expensive than the salvaged ones and really not favorable to dealers expect someone who actually knows the value makes a pre order. And I thought OP said 'one of the cars he picked there'.. I believe he wasn't talking about this particular corolla. If indeed the Corolla is clean title, 139k miles and 1 owner then the price is worth it.

I understand your point about the price of Clean Tittle cars.... I am sure 99% of those buying imported cars are buying the Salvaged.... I can't spend 4-5K$ on a 15 years old car....

If course. Reason why the salvage market is booming here. In this country where people don't even have insurance on their cars, over there if u can't afford insurance then u can't own a car. A car that costs $4-5k clean title can be bought for less than $1,000 salvaged and u will spend less than $300 to fix whatever damage, thanks to used parts. The factory paints on some of these cars cost $2-5k dollars, reason why once u have a bad dent the value decreases so much at the salvaged market. But which cares about that one here, dabfo and okada will still scratch u. That suspension will still damage within a year, thanks to bad roads.

Now you see reason why it is good to get salvage here.... I insured my car with less than 60k a year... The remaining funds went to other Important issues... Money scarce in Nigeria and what most people want is just something that will move Us from Point A to B.... Reason Corolla is like Pure water in the Country..... Don't blame Us.. It's the condition we found ourselves

It's such a pity, the problem is our exchange rate coupled with outrageous duties. If the exchange rate was around N150 to a Dollar, you'll have no issues spending 5k dols on a 15 year old car. Who will even buy a 15 year old car when you can get a 2012+ at 1.8m landing cost.

Perhaps, majority of private vehicles on our roads would have been manufactured from 2010+ and not between 1998-2008 as we currently have.

You’re right. I remember in 2005-06 there are lot of 1999-2001 Camry every where. I just pray things can go back to how it used to be. Even if the dollar will be at 200 Naira

Its a shame that 13-14 years later, rather than have 2012-2013 camrys everywhere on our roads, it's the same 1999-2001 we still have everywhere.

Bro, take a look at this car. The Nairaland agent that wanted to buy it for me put the landing cost at 2.75 million excluding custom duties.

The truth is, a living 2006/2007 model of a car is better than a dead 2012/2013 model.

Cars45 has a 2012 toyota corrola at 1.7 million. I am sure it's a good deal for some people but I will run away from such cars.

Clean titled cars are expensive more reason dealers run away from it.

What you guys are missing is that car models affect the durability.

Give me 1999-2002 Camry Pencil-Light and I will pick it over 2003-2006 big daddy.

Toyota Corolla 2003-2007 is more reliable than the 2009-2012 models. Let's face the fact.

I didn't buy 2006 because I cannot afford the later models, I am only looking at the models that are reliable.

Yes I clearly know the importance of clean title cars. But the bolded though... Not all salvage cars are dead bro. What really determines the value of a car is mileage and also the type of car. A 15 yr old Corolla with 130k miles is considered low mileage while a 15 yr old Mercedes Benz e class with same mileage would have higher level of depreciation.

Also a salvaged car with damaged hood, front and back bumpers is not a DEAD car. They are sold as salvaged because the cost of fixing it by insurance compared to the value of the car does not make business sense. Over there insurance have to order oem parts. The hood and both bumpers, paint job and labour can cost up to $3,000 or more. Now if the car is actually worth like $4 or $5k when clean then it's not worth spending that much to fix it, hence sold as salvaged. Now once the car gets here we can easily source tokunbo hood and bumpers and get it fixed for less than 100k naira.

As much as the op is praising himself.
He made a very foolish purchase.

Clean title clean title all ends in the paper. I have bought several salvage vehicles which are cleaner than clean titles . there are salvage vehicles more expensive than clean title because of the true condition and mileage .

Would you pick a rusted corolla clean title over a salvage corolla with missing bumpers and nice mileage . Your common sense will determine answer.

Any corolla 03-07 purchased above 2.2M is a total waste of cash.

I've had several clean title(supermint) 06 Sport 100-150k mile
For 3500 plus shipping & trucking 1200
1.670 plus duty 400 or 450 tops .
Total
2.1M

Being wise can be foolish if done without common sense.
