In 1979 The SW voted against Shagari in the Federal Elections . He won their leader Awolowo went into opposition with Dignity and did NOT BEG for so called FAIRNESS and EQUITY

What did the Igboes do?

They did a dealwith Shagari and were rewarded with the Speaker of the House of Reps from NPP Azikiwe's part

So we Had

President Shehu Shagari Sokoto State

Vice President Alex Ekwueme Anambra State

Senate President Joseph Wayas Cross River State

Speaker House of Representatives Edwin Ume-Ezeoke Anambra State

The Yoruba were proud and dignified in opposition not for one day begginng for seats or sympathy.
They are not desperate to be in the centre sharing yam.

They accepted the CONSEQUENCES of their voting choices with dignity

They did not scream about equity nd fairness.

One state , One people Had the VP and Speaker and no Yoruba called them "GREEDY" or BETRAYERS

It has happened before. It is not new!!

The difference is some people have pride and dignity

What makes you think I use a phone ?

Shows the limits of your exposure and circumstance.

Not everyone on Nairaland is your coeval or social equal
so do not let rudeness and insolence be your default position

e.g.
contemporary issues from that time
Shugaba deportation
12 2/3 judgment
Maitasine riots
cartoons of Zik as a bride
Nigeria won 1st Nation cup

But Apc has igbo members na, and they won elections.
There should be fairness and equitable sharing of key positions.
I don't really have any business with Apc anyways. Whatever they do remains with them.

NPN had Yoruba members too.
Why didn't they appoint them?
Though I don't want the exclusion of any part of the country to ensure inclusiveness and equality.
However, the moral right to complain doesn't reside with same people who didn't campaign for the inclusion of a Yoruba then.
Because it favoured them, they were enjoying. Yoruba's kept mute and looked the other way.
Same thing happened in the first republic; An Igbo was President, an Igbo was Speaker of House of Reps. No Yoruba was appointed among the top four positions in Nigeria.
The only reason why I want their inclusion is to heal wounds and let's forge ahead as a country devoid of bitterness..

The honest truth is that there is no Igbo person that is suitable t be Senate President or HOR Speaker from APC perspective when founding members of the party are there. Those that have won seats like OUK are very clearly opportunists or tarnished
Maybe Ngige would have been credible or even Rochas because they were there from day 1.

But the rationale has to be political not some fictititious inclusivity because it means nothing to Igbos. We have nt forgotten the sacking spree of Stella Oduah. We NEVER will

Yoruba Elders Meet Jonathan To Complain About Marginalisation - Smh

Written by Leon Usigbe, Abuja
Friday, 26 August 2011

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan met with a delegation of the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE), led by Major-General Adeyinka Adebayo (retd), in the State House, on Thursday, as the leaders complained about being left out in the top six posts in the country.

The delegation also demanded for the dissolution of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which they observed had been unable to fulfill the objectives of its establishment, while also asking for action of the deplorable roads in the South-West.

But responding to their requests, President Jonathan said he was concerned about adherence to the principle of federal character and the zoning formula adopted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and he had tried to ensure that no section of the country was left out in the scheme of things by accommodating them in the subsequent appointments he had made.

According to him, “the issue of federal character and position, especially those political offices, were quite worrisome to me, but we had to achieve political balancing and federal character.

“That is why this thing you describe as zoning was to make sure that every zone should be represented in the one you describe as top six, but for some political reasons, it was not possible. But on my own, in terms of appointments, I tried to see that the way appointment was made, you will agree with me that the appointments we have made so far did not exclude any section.”

He promised that he would not preside over a government that would margninalise any section of the country.

Jonathan lauded the role of Yoruba elders in the 2011 presidential election, which enabled the PDP to win in the South-West saying that the success was made possible because of the leadership.

On the request for the dissolution of the NDDC, Jonathan said though there were many complaints about the commission, it could not be dissolved because it was made up of management and staff.

Jonathan restated his commitment to ensure that things were done differently in the country, adding that corrupt officials would no longer be allowed to go scot free, while outstanding performers would be rewarded.

This is a welcome development, the Yorubas should be effectively and perpetually marginalized and schemed out, because they deserve worst things also. What did they achieve for their rotten Yoruba states during wasted years of the baboon called Obasanjorijo Useless and woe tribe. They should step up the complaint, GEJ will as usual and as always mess them up. They forgot that Tinubo sold them out for a pot of 'ewodu', the same way their foolish leaders sold out abioala to the almajiris to be slaughtered.

Why bring your family and their feeding into it?

Clearly you are touched somewhere painful?

Hence the flogging metaphor

I feel your pain

This is not about food or your family of flogging

Focus
This is about political struggle between divergent interests

Play the game

Don't get churlish and irritable

My point is simple

When roles were reversed the Yoruba bore it WITH DIGNITY

NO one's family was abused or flogged. Awolowo relished the opposition and forbade his people from taking appointments from Shagari. A few decamped but that is politics.

At that time the Yoruba had much greater control of the press and NOT FOR ONE DAY were Igb criticized for their legitimate choice to side with Shagari

The papers are there till today
