aribisala0: Look into the mirror you hypocrite. If Atiku had won, would it have been right to ignore over 1.5m voters that voted for him in SW simply because more people voted APC than his PDP? The good thing about mischief is that it turns around and haunts without mercy. |

aribisala0: Bad belle read the below https://www.nairaland.com/1134041/marginalisation-yoruba-leaders-storm-aso The pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, has for the second time sought audience with President Goodluck Jonathan to protest the “political marginalisation of the South-West.” The Yoruba leaders, who had earlier visited Jonathan on the same issue, said they were not happy that the President had not taken any action to rectify the “anomaly” in the nation’s political structure, which they had complained about. A leader of Afenifere, Senator Femi Okunrunmu, told SUNDAY PUNCH that the group had already made request for the second visit, and were waiting for the President’s response. He said, “We (Yoruba leaders) had met with Jonathan to complain about the marginalisation of Yoruba, but he has not done anything about it. So, we have decided to pay him another visit. We have already made our intention known to the Presidency. We arenow waiting for the President to give us an appointment. “We have the details of the situation which we intend to present to the President. It is as ifthe South-West has been excisedfrom the country. If you look at all the top political positions and appointments in the country, it isnot hard to see that South-West has been marginalised in this administration. “Check from number one, whichis the President, to number 15, you won’t find a Yoruba person there. Look at the people controlling the economy, the finance minister, the Central Bank governor, no Yoruba person is there. The first lawyers in this country were Yoruba. Today, Yoruba are marginalised in the judiciary. In the National Assembly, the Senate and the House of Representatives: Yoruba people are not in leadership position. It is bad. It’s as if Yoruba are not wanted.” Similarly, another prominent Yoruba leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo told our correspondent that Jonathan had been very unfair to the South-West even in the repair offederal roads in the country. He noted that while the roads in the North, the South-East and the South-South were being repaired with funds from government coffers, the federal roads in the South-West were given out to concessionaires whowould collect toll from users. Hecited the Lagos-Ibadan expressway concession as an example. “That means that while others would be enjoying roads built with money from our national treasury, we, in the South-West, will have to pay for the repairs of the federal roads in our region. That is unfair. Why are there not roads under concession in the North, South-East and South-South? Yoruba people have been marginalised,”he said. |

Yoruba decry exclusion from national leadership •Pan-Yoruba conference raises committee to meet Jonathan[/size] Written by Olayinka Olukoya and Dare Adekanmbi Friday, 07 October 2011 THE maiden edition of the Pan-Yoruba Conference, an umbrella body for all Yoruba-speaking people in the country, has condemned in strong terms what it called an insult to the integrity of the Yoruba nation, its systematic and deliberate isolation from national leadership, calling on President Goodluck Jonathan to address the grievances of the race quickly. Contrary to a report in an evening newspaper based in Lagos that the conference flopped, the gathering was the most pre-eminent and well-attended meeting of the Yoruba people in recent times, with over 2,000 people, including about 70 prominent traditional rulers from all the states in the South-West, academics, notable political and religious leaders and others in attendance. The conference also set up a committee to meet with the president and convey the displeasure of the Yoruba to him in the interest of justice, fairness and equity in the country. Rising from the well-attended inaugural meeting in Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State home of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, on Thursday, the conference reaffirmed its total commitment to the continued existence of Nigeria as a democratic, united and indivisible entity. It, however, stressed that the Yoruba people would no longer fold their arms and accept their marginalisation. In a communiqué signed at the end of the meeting by the Yeye Oodua, Mama HID Awolowo and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, the Yoruba said they believed their seeming neglect could only be addressed through the proper placement of ethnic groupings in the national scheme of things. “The Conference discussed extensively the affairs of Nigeria, particularly as they relate to the socio-political existence of Nigeria within the Federal Republic of Nigeria. For example, it has been observed that it now appears that there is a definite move to isolate the Yoruba nation from national leadership. “The Yoruba people can no longer continue to watch events in Nigeria with careless attitude, particularly when an insult to the integrity of the Yoruba nation is being systematically carried out. The time to address the situation is now. “The Conference unanimously approves that a top delegation of the Yoruba people should meet with the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the plight of the Yoruba nation. “The delegation is to draw the immediate attention of the president of Nigeria to these problems and urge him to use his good offices to put a stop to the injustice to which the Yoruba people have been exposed in the distribution of political offices in Nigeria,” the communiqué said. The gathering also critically discussed the issue of the Boko Haram sect as well as the persistent crises in Jos, the Plateau State capital, and berated what it called attempt by some people to cause discord and disharmony within the Nigerian nation. http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/29344-yoruba-decry-exclusion-from-national-leadership-pan-yoruba-conference-raises-committee-to-meet-jonathan |

Banmeallday:I think you are really very confused or maybe an illiterate . The leaders went to meet Jonathan because they VOTED HIM THERE GEJ got 2.4 million votes from the SW while Buhari got under 250000 votes from the entire SW https://www.reuters.com/article/nigeria-elections-results-idAFLDE73G05B20110418 They were ENTITLED They were NOT BEGGING but demanding their rights Goodluck Jonathan in 2011 WON every SW state except Osun where hhe came second In 1979 they did NOT VOTE for Shagari and did not approach him Maybe you can ask someone in your street who went to school to explain the difference to you 2 Likes 1 Share |

Read my post that you quoted and juxtapose it with this rubbish you posted / There is a more extensive thread which I have championed . It is NO SECRET https://www.nairaland.com/745731/yoruba-marginalization-elders-met-jonathan Goodluck Jonathan won over 80% of the votes in the SW in 2011 so why should they note approach him 1 Like |

BigIyanga:We are not discussing appointments juicy or bony so do not change the subject we are discussing principal officers of the National Assembly so whether you claim is true or false it is NOT RELEVANT to THIS THREAD Just like Jonathan, who got more than 80% of the SW votes in 2011, giving bony ministries to SW is not relevant The whole premise of your contribution will necesarily tke us intoo debaate about what is juicy and what is not juicy in a Ministry which will totally derail this thread. The fact is all states are given ministries whether or not they vote for the incumbent Stick to the topic which is NAtional Assembly and do not derail the thread 1 Like |

We will always set the bar for you guys. Every position you guys occupied, we have occupied first. I am certain you were not born then to know if Yorubas were begging or not. I can't remember Sen Abaribe or Sen. Ekeremmadu asking APC for fairness but Igbos in APC, the same way Yorubas in PDP are begging for position even though Yorubas generally have done nothing for PDP. A whole Deputy Director General absconded with PDP's presidential election strategy and sold it to APC for ministerial position. God pity yoruba nation if this rumour is true. You claim you have clouts, why not grab the Speakership and DSP without trying to blackmail Ndi Igbo. We will stop you guys again. It is not a must to be like us. |

aribisala0: Demanding was not stated mr Professor, they said they “decried” which, is perhaps worse than begging.... In 1979, who voted for Shagari? Certainly you cannot say Igbo did. Shagari had plenty Yoruba folks in his government stealing and looting alike, as did the Yoruba having more states, allocation, positions than Igbo. SO, what did your leaders do with all the loot they took since joining Fulani in 1967? Nothing but Owambe and going to London. Today, Ibadan is still the same way it was in 1970.... And instead of addressing your region that is poor, you are chasing shadows because Chioma has not called you back... |
