The truth is, it would reduce the corruption in importation of fuel. After all, crude oil isn't locally sold. Well, he was open but advanced countries have made sure that electric cars aren't mass produced. |

This deputy Senate President is myopic, electric car is good but he should be talking about how to improve on our electricity inorder for it to work. His reasoning is not what we expected from a person like him,so daft. Very soon crude oil will have no value yet he's talking so much about it as if Nigeria will fail without crude. 1 Like |

do4luv14: 1. Currently there are electric cars that can go for 150 minutes sans charging 2.Solar charging stations would be the answer.Battery swapping too is another answer. |

Even in developed countries , electric cars aren't all that common , few charging stations have been built , then ben Bruce wants Nigeria that barely generates light to meet basic needs , to phase out petrol cars ?. Even ekweremadu is plain stupid , his response alone shows he isn't concerned about development of the country but what he gets from oil sales 5 Likes |

This is just waste of news space and readers' time. When the right time comes we won't need all these bills sponsoring and debates; we would be compelled to adjust willy-nilly. 3 Likes |

Nigerian leaders and misplaced priorities.we barely get enough power to charge our phones and one senator is pushing a bill to start importing electric cars.if that bill had been granted,I am very sure Ben Bruce company will start selling electric cars...at the end of the day,the bill was made for selfish interest...if our leaders truly have the masses interest at heart,if they are really interested in getting rid of pollution,we should be talking about bills that will ban importation of generators by 2023.That way,we would be getting rid of both noise and air pollution. |

Na wah o! Our leaders are so myopic! The world is going green and petrol combustible vehicles are being phased out gradually! OPEC has ordered that oil producing countries should cut down their daily barrel production because of the effects of gas flaring. Nigeria produces about 6,000 barrels of oil per day and has been given directives to reduce the production to half by next year. Failure to comply will result to low patronage by buyers which will affect the revenue accrued from oil. Now what will happen when petrol engine vehicles become phased out totally? Where will these so called leaders who drive fuel vehicles now turn to? For those talking about power supply to charge the cars, you can actually use alternative energy to charge the vehicles. Some countries have charging points which make use of wind power or solar to charge these vehicles as seen on the photos below. It doesn't take rocket science to build a car charging point with solar especially for a country like ours that is very hot . Take a look at china that built an electric vehicle that doesn't even needs to be charged using charging stations. They simply put a petrol turbine that actually charges the battery that in turn controls the vehicle...why can't Nigeria cash in on that method? These people do not know what emissions from fuel cars, motorcycles and generators are doing to the environment. I single-handedly came into Abuja in 2009 and by then, Abuja was not as hot as it is now in 2019. This is because of the increased depletion of the ozone layer and if nothing is done fast, it will get worse! 1 Like

It's one thing saying phasing out petrol cars at a certain time isn't feasible, it's another thing saying they need to frustrate the sales of electric cars. Why frustrate sales?? The power situation in the country is already enough to affect sales of these cars but why go to the extent of frustrating. These are our leaders and it's scary. The world is moving on from fossil fuels, that horse has left the barn and its not going back. Whether we like it or not, dependence on fossil fuels will reduce over time. Instead of these guys to see what other industry could be created from this, this guy is saying let's frustrate it. I worry for our country and it feels like there's no bright spot anywhere |

tactius: How viable will it be setting up a solar charging station in somewhere like Lagos and clients swap their batteries for home use? (Though the North would have been ideal in terms of generation) |

What is wrong with the brain of these useless buffoons called Senators and particularly Ekweremandu. This guy just brought a hidden anger out of me. This country is anti-growth, anti-development. Frustrate sale of prepaid metre so people can pay for light they are not using Frustrate stable power supply so people can buy generators Frustrate rail transportation so people can make money from purchase of cars, etc Frustrate true sustainable developmental projects and replace it with palliative so it will be easy to continually embezzle money allocated to these projects yearly Frustrate security and peace in Nigeria so there will be budget for acquisition of weapons and serve as a means to loot the nation running into billlion Frustrate good roads construction so that repair of roads will gulp allocation yearly from state treasury. Now this idiot is asking that electrical cars sales be frustrated so they can sell oyel. What the fu ck is wrong with this man damn it. Is it not enough that Nigeria created a huge money drain in the unprofitable NNPC with massive workforce filled with overpaid political staffers, is it not enough that we can easily save trillions we waste yearly on subsidy. I expect the IGBO and Niger Deltans to use their online power demonstrated in 1000000 likes for Atiku and 100 shares for Buhari to support electric vehicles. We need development please and we cannot continue to use petrol vehicles when the rest of the world is buying electric vehicles. 2 Likes |

CRUDE OIL OR NOT, THE FACT IS THAT ELECTRIC CARS WONT DO WELL IN A COUNTRY WITHOUT RELIABLE AND STEADY POWER SUPPLY... Ben Bruce should know better, no be today bring up irrelevannt issues for Senate. Why can't they debate on how to improve power supply first. One stage at a time. |

This Senator is living in another World, I guess ! Saudi Arabia, Europe and Asia Pacific had already adopted the Electric cars to be phased out by 2030 and a Nigerian Senator openly displayed his ignorance . Does he know the Electric Cars are already rolled out and being sold across the World ? Little did our 5-time elected Senator knows the Oil prices crashed because of little demand in Oil sector. What a Shame ? |

Gatsbythegreat1: Guy, if you cannot afford to buy a generator and fuel it to charge your electric car, there will be charging point everywhere just like there are filling stations. These charging points will get devices that charges your cat within seconds. You will have to pay a stipend to charge these cars to full bars. This is a welcome development. At least you SE and SS people will have your oil to yourself as we won't need it that much except to charge our cars. |

A country and people without sense! That’s how a senator said we would use electric cars by 2020 without thinking!!! When I condemned, idiots on Nairaland land where making noise |
Re: Ekweremadu: Frustrate Sales Of Electric Cars In Nigeria To Sell Our Crude Oil by Nobody: 10:09am On Apr 19, 2019 |
Tapout: It will do well. If you can afford an electric car, you can afford the car charger or charge it at designated charging stations. Those stations will still open as Nigerians are going to do business out of these electric car charging stations. You people should stop displaying crass ignorance. |
