I can relate to this.
Borrowed some cash on behalf of a family member last year September because he had an emergency. The money was supposed to be paid back in October; fast forward to February, the money was yet to be paid and the person I borrowed the money from had an emergency too, so I had to use the money I got from selling my car and another one I got from another source to pay the original lender (even though her dad died despite everything)
Before I paid the money, I told the family member I got the money for that the fund I'm using to pay back was meant for me to replace the car I sold and he said it won't go beyond 1st week in March. Right now, he doesn't even call or text me and I still don't have a car. I went all out for him because he had borrowed in the past and paid back, there was nothing to indicate he would treat the last transaction like this. A transaction that was supposed to be closed out within 1 month is 7 months old now and counting, with no end I sight.
It is well.

A friend of mine once did that sh*t! He said he needed 15k and it very urgent. He said he will be paying back the next day. Gave him my Card to withdraw and he did and I was received debit alert. Since then till now (3 years) baba no even talk about it...lol

Funny a enough, I did not even asked him about the money. Months later, he came to me to lend him 1k, I just tell him I don't have.

Moral: Don't lend out the money you cannot dash out.

This phenomenon of borrow money and refusal to return has long been with us so tay tay( long time things). I thought is a thing of the past like in the 60s, 70s, 80s all through to 90s. All this period are analagoue black days. To imagine that we still carry this audacity of nonsense to digital age is worrisome.

Lol. Too many Nigerians have taken my act of kindness for granted severally.

Nowadays, I just give out what I can afford to lose.
There is one that is a 'big man' to many people but refused to pay or pick my calls or respond to chats again.

But this doesn't stop me from helping those i can help.

You can never know who will help you when down too.

There are few bad eggs in Nigeria but many nice people too.
The bad eggs are many no longer few

Same way a man in my office asked me to borrow him money just for 2 days, I told him no wahala that he I am adding another day to it. He took it on the 21st of November to payback on the 24th of November, 2017. Till today I have not received my money. He has given birth to another child, did a lavishly naming ceremony, moved from his previous apartment to another where he paid 700k. But he has refused to pay my 140k for over 16 months now. I just wrote it off has bad debt last month and would never ask him again. But I so much believe in that beautiful "lady" called karma.
Joke Aside Please Lend Me 25K Or 18K Till Next 2Month

This WhatsApp conversation is ridiculous..

I dunno what kind of advice to give my friend who sent this to me.

How will someone borrow you money after begging and crying to return it the next day and you have the audacity to use it to do another business?

Like that isn't enough, he's being lieing about sending it for over 3 days now (4 days after the agreed time oo) and he still has the boldness to update his WhatsApp status with motivational quotes.

Chaii.. Nigerians are low-key wicked.

I used to do it too and I thought I was smart but once I started losing good friends, it made me stop.

Moral of this post: Your friends are going through a lot probably lot more worse than you are. If they decide to help you out with a fast loan, do well to pay back before/on the agreed date.

They won't embarrass you because y'all are friends but you will never be trusted again.

It is really sad the so-called friends are not sincere when it comes to money. You can help out with whatever you when necessary without an intention of getting it back.

I experienced this several times because I expected "friends" to honor their words like I would do. I have learned my lesson. I know a handful of friends who will honor their words but the majority are not sincere. One of them told me he had a problem and I should lend him some money he would payback after a couple weeks. The next thing I saw was the guy bought a car and I didn't have a bicycle. After a while he said he was sorry for defaulting because things were tough and he came for another help. Another borrowed, we got paid an unexpected allowance 5 times the amount. I expected him to payback with that but he never did. He paid back in multiple instalments (2k, 1k, etc) but the refund wasn't useful to me.

I resorted to disbursing my money the day I recieve salary. I only have monthly upkeep. If any of them ask me for money, I will tell them what I have in my account and it is for my monthly upkeep.

Just a quick, fail-proof rule of lending money to people: only lend to credit-worthy people. And when your are lending for the first time, give out only what you can forfeit.

Honestly, if you're too nice, people will take you for granted. It's good to be nice but not too nice. I could remember last year a friend came to borrow 7k from me, he didn't pay back and I never asked him. Few months later he sent a message on WhatsApp that I should lend him another 2k and he sent his acct number immediately. I told him I don't have and his reply was he knew that was what I would say and he's been expecting that. Imagine o, someone that has refused to pay his former debt.
Another one was a friend I lent 18k twice (36k) and I didn't collect the first 18k. When I was broke and I went to him to lend me 25k, his reply was that I'll add 5k to the money when paying back. This is a friend I've really helped in the past o.
There are many scenarios, but that shouldn't stop us from helping people, because even the air we breathe in was given to us freely
One rule to lending people money I've learnt is, do not lend people money you can't give them ( infact, just assume you gave them the money).

y story goes thus. TEN years ago. 2009 precisely
I met this guy thru one of my close pals in the poly(1999). He was my best friend room mates. It ends there.
Fast forwarding in 2009 I lost my dad. He passed on. We invited both Islamic clerics( home and far away) to come over and conduct his burial ceremony. This guy was part of the entourage and they offered a modesty burial for my dad. Appreciation was in fullness.
Few months later this particular guy again called me over phone, as we shared phone lines during the burial rites, and poured out his mind to me. He was to wed and needed a sum of 30K to paid for house rent as he does not have one yet. And he promised to pay back 3months in earnest. I was so happy to rendered the help in returns. ( GRATITUDE IS THE SIGN OF A NOBLE’ SOUL)……..(1)
Note the 30k was equivalent to todays 90k. also the 30 k was half of my monthly salary as at then
Back to the story, the 3months elapsed , waiting for the money no show. I called the guy he refused to pick my call. My nysc came calling I have no savings to fall back on to prosecute the financial demands. My only assurance were people I borrowed 6ok ( 3o k apiece) to show me love at my own time of needs. Just to pay back the money I loaned them oooo. The grateful one of the two, paid me instantly. While this my poly associate refused blatantly despite all my numerous texts and unreply called.
One faithful day I decided to call and try my luck, so lucky I was, ecstasy, and the reply I got from the other end will continue to shape my philosophy about ungrateful soul. The wife picked and her response go thus: once you borrow someone a lump-some of money never desire to receive it back as the person is not desirous to do so, I should just focus on my God to pay me back in kinds and multiple fold. ( NO GRATITUDE FROM THE WICKED)…..(2)
Meaning: the money u borrow my husband can never be repaid and look else where to get help or to GOD. I was shocked to my marrow. That Islamic clerics in coat too can do 419.( INJURIES MAY BE FORGIVEN BUT NOT FORGOTTEN)…..(3)
