It is rare for someone with B Sc. especially from third world to rise to the highest level in his/her career here. Even the lady that taught us during the orientation program back home mentioned it. You can get a job but there will be the glass ceiling you dont know about. if you want to reach your peak, make plans for your masters unless you just want to get by. i said it is rare and not it is impossible. ceemac: |

Obi1conte:You mean food items that are not allowed. All airlines have things they do not allow plus airport security also check things like Palm oil and all... So if you are worried about whats not allowed don't take them. But that should be the least of your worries Je m'appelle Ramj |

I never really experienced all those request for employment history in my search. I came in just a month ago and got a place in less than 10days. My search was basically around the Northeast. Just keep trying, I am too certain you will get a place soon. Barryston: |

Please for those that are staying in/stayed in an Airbnb and had no one around, please what address are you/did you use to open a bank account or apply for healthcard/drivers license and co before you sorted accommodation?? Did you use the airbnb address?? Also, if one decides to rent a Canada post office box as a temporary address provider, will it be acceptable proof of address?? Has anyone here used the post office box option?? Thanks for your assistance |

| Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by toboy: 2:08am On Apr 24, 2019 |
Balenciaga28:Yes. I can confirm student visas or study permits fall under this category. Students studying in Canada are considered temporary residents. Then, study permits have a work permit that allow students to work 20 hrs/week during school period and unlimited hours during school break. Students may work more than 20hr during school year only if such job, for instance , a research job is directly related to or required in thier program. |

Barryston:I understand your situation @barryston. We were in the same situation 5 weeks ago. Keep checking you will see a landlord or landlady that will just like your family and waive the requirements. Bear in mind that some of them will require 4minths payments in advance... If u like the location of the house and the house itself... I will say just make d payment for 4 months |

Barryston:Hi, this site www.har-par.com was posted in an Edmonton Whatsapp group I am a member of, you may want to take a look at it as well, as they have apartments in Calgary. Also, you may want to change your location on Facebook to reflect you are now in Calgary(or any other location as the case may be). With this you will be able to gain access to Calgary Facebook Marketplace. There are lots of vacancies for rent posted that may not be as strict. Also look for/do a search of various groups in your area using key words (for example Calgary Apartments, Houses and Rooms for rent) and you would be surprised what you may find. You can also check www.rentboard.ca All the best |

Ramj:On this POMO issue: Many Nigerians who Cargo POMO or have POMO in their luggage when coming into Canada are required to DECLARE it. If you declare it at the point of entry or at their office when seeking Customs clearance for your goods, they will simply add your name to their violators list and you don't get to pay fine. If you don't DECLARE it at this point, you will be issued a Notice of Violation which will contain a fine of $1,300. You will be allowed to pay $650 (granted 50% discount) if you pay same day otherwise you pay the full amount. In both scenarios, your name goes into their violators record and they will continue to add to this record the number of times you violated this laws. I don't know if this information is later used against you especially when you are seeking Citizenship. Finally, being a victim of this POMO wahala as at yesterday, the Customs Officer clearing my Cargo told me to tell my fellow Nigerians to stop bringing POMO to Canada. It seems they now search for POMO physically in all Shipment coming from Nigeria. When they search, they shred your bags and leave your luggage as a heap of mess. The Terminal Manager also told me that this is a regular occurence for Shipments coming from Nigeria. They both wondered why we don't share this experiences with each other to avoid the losses. So, I have shared. Please share with other Nigerians especially those whose cargo will be cleared at Halifax Port! |

Hello ALL Please landed seniors and those with the knowledge, would an international DL suffice for the normal DL in Calgary? My normal DL is expiring soon and i dont think i'ld be able to get it reissued before leaving because of time constraints. I hear the international DL take 2weeks to process, should i go for it or just present my expired DL? |

PS: For the purpose of those of us who are about to pack our bags, please let us know the list of forbidden food items/general items. This list can be on page 1 of this thread for reference purpose.
