Nigeria has enough doctors!!! Is this man high on some drugs? The number of doctors to patient is 1 to 1200.

Many people have lost their lifes due to the few number of medical practioners we have, the government should rather find a way to improve doctors salaries and provide essential equipment for their work instead of acting unconcerned, the truth is Nigerian doctors are well appreciated abroad.
he is very correct just that we have more unemployed doctors than employed ones

The Nation Friday February 1, 2019 page 29 Hope rises for Cancer Patients.

In recent years, Nigeria has been plagued by increasing cases of people afflicted with cancer. It is a terminal disease that kills people in large numbers, while many are still battling for survival. The most common in Nigeria for women are breast cancer, cervix cancer, ovarian cancer, and colorectal cancer, while prostate cancer, liver cancer and colorectal cancer are some of the most common cases in men.

Dr. Ngige has lost touch with his profession. According to WHO doctor patients ratio should be 1:600. The fact that some doctors are still looking for job does not mean that we have enough doctors. The problem is from the health care delivery system we operate. Most doctors are employed by government. The private health sector is poorly developed & cannot engage much doctors compared to what happens in developed countries.
Even the government hospitals have shortage of doctors because vacancies are not filled due to several reasons: corruption, diversion of funds, sectionalism, sectarian crises etc.
Nigerians need an apology from Dr. Ngige.

Useless minister. See the way our leader talk carelessly because he can afford to sponsor his medical bill abroad with his family. If u have been to public hospital u will confirm there is shortage of doctor.
Re: Chris Ngige: Doctors Are Free To Leave Nigeria, We Have Enough by kaey10(m): 2:19pm On Apr 24, 2019
the minister is ryt somehow.....most of our hospitals re under staffed nt becos we don't ve enough doctors bt cos the Govt is not ready to employ more doctors , our health care system is ntin to write home about, most hospitals lack facilities for proper diagnosis n treatment d reason y many travel abroad in search for greener pastures. on d other hand some of our doctors leave d country cos dey re jst greedy n always think dey re underpaid, before u know naw dem go strike again asking for salary increament.

Nice idea, I never thought of this, go to villages or communities their so called health centres are eye sore, shadow of it self, non is equipped, but then how this villagers manage to be healthy irrespective of not having access to a good hospital Marvels me, they live longer and stronger with little or no patronage to those death trap cottages called health centres.
It's because you've never stayed in a village.
If you see the kind of horrible cases that come to the hospital from villages you won't say this.
Most of the terrible cases you'll see in the hospital come from villages because they waste time with alternative treatments before they finally seek medical care at the brink of death or permanent disability.

why wont he say so?

His party the APC has successfully rigged the presidential election. The only (feeble) resistance to them being in power for the next 50 Months at least, is Atiku's petition at the tribunal. He and his master Buhari care less if there are doctors for the average Nigeria because if they have common skin rash, they leave for the UK or USA to treat themselves, leaving everyone else in Nigeria to fend for themselves when they have catastrophic health challenges

if you agree with minister, Government should stop wasting money in training of doctors. some medical schools should be closed to save cost.
let me educate you, there are fewer centres for training of resident doctors. It does not mean doctors are surplus. that some doctors are not employed does not mean doctors are in excess. major problems facing heath sector are inadequate distribution of manpower, poor or inadequate health facilities, funding and effective co-ordonation. If those problems are solved, you will realize that nigeria has fewer doctors.

And the fact that we have some people supporting the statement shows how sick some people are.

You are supporting a man that can travel out whenever he likes for common malaria, while you the supporter can't even feed properly.

Meanwhile....

NHS ‘could be short of 350,000 staff by 2030’
The staffing crisis in the NHS is deepening so fast that the service could be short of 350,000 key personnel by 2030, health experts have warned.

The NHS in England is already short of over 100,000 staff, including 10,000 doctors and 40,000 nurses, official figures show. However, on current trends, analysts project that the gap between staff needed and the number available could reach almost 250,000 by 2020.

U re correct, I have witnessed this, they resort mainly on herbs even if the person is dying, but on a large scale I still give it to them, those villagers live stronger and longer.

Very unreasonable from a supposed leader.

Nollyzonenews:
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, says doctors who feel they want to relocate in search of greener pastures are free to do so as the nation has enough medical personnel.

Ngige said this on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Wednesday.
The minister was responding to a question on brain drain and the deliberate recruitment of Nigerian doctors by foreign embassies in Nigeria to the detriment of the nation’s health sector.

In his response, however, Ngige, who is also a medical doctor, said there was nothing wrong with doctors leaving the country as they would continue to send foreign exchange home which could, in turn, grow the economy.

He said, “No, I am not worried (about doctors leaving the country). We have surplus. If you have surplus, you export. It happened some years ago here. I was taught chemistry and biology by Indian teachers in my secondary school days.

The minister of labour and productivity Dr Chris Ngige is wrong and medacious. The Nigeria healthcare system is bleeding profusely and this urgent attention. The manpower and adequate train is lacking. Facts are on ground to prove wrong.

Nigeria actually have the highest concentration of doctors in the world, while many are unemployed,it's better they seek jobs abroad
By concentration of doctors, you mean?
Even Ghana may has a better doctor ratio than Nigeria.

Don't be deceived, it will take us many years to produce enough doctors. Where I was working the LG has 2 hospitals one private and the other is GH. In the GH only 2 doctors n private has only 1 doctor n funnily the LG is the largest in the state so 3 functioning medical doctors in the whole of the largest LG in the North sharing border with Niger. As we are attending to Nigerians so as Nigeriens people as well. In summary, the rate of job seekers is not an indices for the number of doctors but a rot in our system. By the time u open their files in the miniseries u will see over thousands of employed ghost doctors same thing as residence

Maybe he's talking about native doctors. That's a very irresponsible statement. Never expected this from Ngige.
