Good for them. Do they think education is free? In sane countries, if you forcefully defy a legal order, the police would get physical with you. So you have to respect yourself.

The students are filled with the entitlement mentality. How dare they try to protest "no payment of tuition, no test/exam"? Is the university their fathers' enterprise? How dare they? Where they expecting a university to provide services for free? SMH.

The students were asked to leave school, because of non-payment of fees.

They were doing strong head...

So, the authorities called in the Police.

I know you would soon chant 'corruption'...so let's lay a few facts. Universites in Nigeria are poorly funded...and the government does not have extra cash for them at all. So, fees .

If the university does not make life better for the students...then how do you expect them to provide for running costs, etc....

Sometimes, you Nigerians need to see the big picture.
These universities see students as cash cows. Do you know how much they receive as budget per year? It's not like the university directly pays its staff or something.

Universities don't get enough from government.

State universities are worse.

An average university needs at least 100m USD to function well. Many of our unis see 10m USD.

Funny enough that was the policy of the school when I was there some years back , this new vc came and disorganized everything

Imagine, in ABU ZARIA nobody will force you to pay or not it your choice, it is computerise there is no way you can register course without payment and if you feel wont pay and write test or exam you cant see your result. Well put the blame on the state gouernor, the tution fee is too much when not in private university.

Bro...you need to see the big picture. Your way of reasoning is why things are falling apart....lack of accountability/responsibility. Ask yourself... on applying... was tuition free?...or required and must be paid before writing exams? If tuition required... the students are wrong and should not be protesting. If free....the university should be fighting the FG for its funding.... not holding the students to ransom. What next?...the students must fund the lecturers' salaries?... and allowances?
It's this your kind mentality that allow employers to pay employees if and when they like. This is the big picture you need to see.

So police brutality is the best way to calm down the protesting students?

Show us the big picture Mr photographer.
Though condemnable, it's actually a vicious circle. What goes around comes around.

In case you didn't notice the Op used the words "around the town". So those that had left the school premises where still assaulted for being students of the school and not for protesting or trespassing.
Don't be quick to pass judgement.

Funny thing is that the typical naija parent is using all his money to build a house in his home town instead of catering for his wards school fees

This students fighting for school fees are just wasting their time. I wish I knew certificate has NO value when I was in school, I would have channelled my school fees to Food business.

At the heart of this post is conflict management in higher institutions. When Management of academic citadel resorts to brutality to manage conflict situation, it is an indication that leadership is bereft of ideas to move situation forward. I think it is high time The Police FORCE undergo special training on handling conflict situations like this without being high handed and brutish. Pursuing students like animals and injuring them is a reflection of who we all are. To the students, obedience to simple instructions is wisdom in a clime like this. Blessings

You don't increase school fees by 500% and expect total compliance in a couple months, this is wrong.

So students should refuse to pay fees , and university should go broke because they can't stay in business?

Abeg, you Nigerians, make up yer mind....running a country costs money. Not everything is free...and by the way, why should students be rioting and destroying university property...which would have to be paid for?

Okay....
who is this?

I remembered my very first day in that Sch, student were protesting school fees. My mum quickly caution me . That was the end of the story...

Funny enough, it is like I am seeing the entrance to my room then from those pics.

Well, it has been foreseen that the current VC will create such alarming situation as we were told then, that was the experience students suffered him when he was at RUGIPOLY.. ..

Don’t think you have sense at all?
Students who once paid #28000 are now forced to pay #150000 and you’re here saying what you know nothing about!
If you want to increase school fees, there ought to be lay down of things to follow. The government increased the school fees without any options for the students
