Akin Alabi, Nairabet CEO and House Of Reps Member-elect has stated that the man who rejected a house offer for a borehole in his community didn't make a wise decision.Recall that it was reported earlier today that a gateman has rejected a house offer as a parting gift from his boss whom he served for 25 years. He, instead, requested that a borehole be sunk for his community which he said lacked water.

Akin Alabi who reacted to report admitted that it was selfless, but however stated that it was not a wise decision because he could have collected the house, sell it and sink multiple boreholes. He wrote;

The question should be how much is the worth of the house and the boreholes.

He doesn't want to feel like a king by having the community knock on his gates for water. How many men today would reject such? For the gateman to have served his oga consistently for 25 years shows unflinching loyalty. How many gatemen ever get a retirement package from their oga?

If we have 50 of such men left, Nigeria would be a better place and not where naira Marley gives economics of money circulation.
Succinctly put! I shivered when listening to the "economic analysis" of a fraudster endorsed by his fellow criminals. Sad to say this country is as good as dead

He should and he will from any of different possibilities, including the beneficiaries of the borehole that has become necessary due to governors and LGA chairmen abandoning their responsibility to provide tap water to the people as it was in the past.
Many thanks for your humanity-inspired thoughts. Bravo!

I think the man just make great mistake for the borehole to last longer why not build the house and extend the borehole in front of your house to serve all the community rather than telling him not to build a house for u am sure the house will come with water anyway
It's a choice between bore hole or house in a village. He won't reject one if he was offered both.

His love for humanity should be commended

He has no idea how many lives that his betting company ruined. I guess he's baffled and shocked that someone out there choose humanity over monetary gain.

Ruined how?
It's the naija mentality that has ruined them. Same way Nigerias were warned to only use their free cash to so MMM is the same way they r warned to use their free cash to gamble.
Is it only in Nigeria that people gamble?
Blame the government that has not placed enof emphasis on education, skills acquisition and job creation.
Was it not ur government that decided to share Abacha loot among the country's poorest people?
When education is in shambles, the products will also think shambolicaly.
Talk to the average graduate in the country and see if u can bring out sense from his or her brains.
The black man's greed has always been the death or near death of him!

Spot on.

But for the religious crisis and killings, Northern Nigeria would have had more people settling there, and therefore be more economically viable as a result of the purchasing power and investments of such settlers. They are some of the nicest people to live among... but killings can breakout any time for the most unbelievable reasons.

hungryboy:
It's not everyone that's obsessed with making millions, building mansions and having many cars,

some are just contented with having a roof over their heads and food in their plates.

Many Northerners like this man exist, the house people the are not related to, feed them and even support 'em financially.

Na when i dey with Hausa people i know say their worldview dey very different from our people own

Most times, Nigerians (both rich and poor) sound smart but they really ain't that intelligent.

How would you sell the house to people that cannot even build houses made of blocks? People that struggle daily to survive? How many millionaires do you think you will find in that village? Do you think water ain't that scarce that he decided to help his community?

Lot of idiots can come online and talk sh!t. I can bet 100k that Akin Alabi have never visited a typical Northern village. Where you travel on a bike for hours, no utility poles(Nepa pole), no network, no pure water etc.

People need to travel more and do more volunteering works instead sitting in a room of AC and typing bullcrap from a PC or Android phones.
Well said brother. Well said

Akin Alabi has sunk countless bore holes in communities the man lavishes money on communities in his state long before he became House of Rep member . as per betting . people are told to bet responsibly those whose life got ruined is by greed and recklessness not by the bet company .
Re: Akin Alabi Says Man Who Rejected House For Borehole Didn’t Make A Wise Decision by JimD(m): 8:56am On Apr 26, 2019
The gateman will always remain a gateman even with borehole in the village or house. But the borehole might give him reputational leverage in the community because people know he is a good person. But that won't add money to his pocket. A good, poor man. angry

But the house would probably make him rich if he finds one alhaji to buy. But then he would probably spend it all lavishly on family and friends because of his poor financial mentality. In short, either way, he is still going to be poor.

I am imagining what you will do to owners of ponzi schemes (such as GHW and the likes that defrauded people and closed their site making many commit suicide ) when you catch them.

Seems you don't know much about the core north especially the rural parts, they're not big on real estate. They hardly but property there like we do in south.
Re: Akin Alabi Says Man Who Rejected House For Borehole Didn’t Make A Wise Decision by JimD(m): 9:10am On Apr 26, 2019
Most of the myopic people blaming Akin Alabi don't know how much philanthropic work the man does every year. You think he just contested and won because he owns nairabet?

The downside of social media now is anyone who has a phone, who hasn't even helped anyone in his/her life, can condemn people making real impacts. Imagine twitter with #derangeddonald hangtag. Someone who has achieved what the 1% of people in the world wouldn't dream.

If you don't help yourself first, you can't help others. That's what keeps most Nigerian poor. You think you're doing something great whereas you're not even scratching the surface. Let's say the rich guy built one or two boreholes. After three years, the boreholes got spoilt because everyone in the community uses it. Then everyone is back to square one. No one even remembers the gateman anymore.

The point is if you're poor, you can't help anyone. Even if you help, no one will remember you. If the borehole was built, you think they'd commission it in the name of the poor guy or the rich guy ?

Abeg.

He could have chosen the house.. who builds house without borehole? The community can always come in to fetch water in his place
Same people who need those boreholes built houses they live in presently without boreholes I am sure. He did what is right by his people.
Re: Akin Alabi Says Man Who Rejected House For Borehole Didn’t Make A Wise Decision by mystifyer: 9:25am On Apr 26, 2019
Personally, I think the man made a wrong decision without giving it a deep thought. Although his good intentions for the people in his community must be commended. However, they're many other ways he could have gone about achieving his intentions without necessarily losing the house offered, such as; Accepting the house which most certainly would have water facility (borehole), then he could request that a tap or two be extended out of his compound for the use of the people."

Lol, do you know if I am a core northerner or lived / worked in different part of the North before? @topic, it depends on the part of the North in question, I know real Estate investment is good in places like kano / kaduna, that again depends on the area / location, If located in far rural areas in the North, it might not make sense but in good locations / local government, it is a good investment grin
