I believe delta state would have been more developed than it is now.

They won't have been celebrating a con man like ibori and udughan, okowa would not have been elected and the best person for the position would have been picked.

The state would have been lobbying for senate or speaker position because of his population and landmass,i.e voting strength bigger than the entire south East.

The state would have easily been the most developed region surpassing even abuja with seaports working.

That's just my opinion though, no insults

Why didn't that development come in all the years they were together as the old mid-western Region and later as Bendel state?

Ethnic division will still come to play, Ijaws , urobo Benins, kwale people and others won't get along and get agitated when one tribe is seen to be dominant.

Ogbemudia has ika root
The current chief of staff is urhobo but bear Benin names because urhobo-edo language are similar.

The problem of ethnic card might be ijaw but they are in minority

first of all there was no huge oil allocation as it was now.

The progress in development made then is still Better than the progress the two state are currently witnessing

The problem is not leadership but the people that are being led. A governor didn't perform and he still won his re-election convincingly. He didn't win with a little margin but with a large margin.

So excuse me for not buying into your idea.

That reasoning makes no sense. Having a larger population and landmass is what you think will bring development? If that were the case, Nigeria would have been developed. Nigeria has both large landmass and huge population and Is the 6th largest exporter of Oil in the world. Yet Nigeria is a third world country

Switzerland is not even up to size of Niger state, has a population of just 8 million people and has no oil. But Switzerlands GDP is bigger than that of Nigeria

It is not size or population or oil that will make anywhere develop, it is vision that makes a place develop

The cat and dog relationship between Benin vs Ijaw is there for all to see, Isekiri and ijaws too.
Its a nice idea but this is my own reservation. I am Edo with an Ijaw mother and know what I see.

I hope you restrict that fancy Edo/Delta conjecture to only NON-IGBO speaking areas that are more than likely not going to tow along.

Stop this nonsense, you can't force people to love your hero, it's makes sense of course why Awo is deeply respected and loved by his Yoruba people, and that's fine.. but then it borders on sheer lunacy and delusion when you start to disparage other people (of different ethnic stocks) who might not share that same optimism. For all intents and purposes, Awo was hardly regaled among the other ethnic minority groups that make up the now defunct Midwest region, and that's why there was a plebiscite conjured by their (Midwestern) leaders to be excised from the Western region/Yoruba domination. My point is Awo was ONLY a hero to the yorubas, nobody outside the West gave two fuccks about him, much less his much vaunted legacy (respectable as it were)... you can't force people to love you, you have your hero.. I have my hero, you can't force me to love yours, much as I can't force you to love mine. Case closed.

Ref: Kalapizm is right. Ethnicity and struggle for power is still relevant in those states. Edo has issues with Binis and Esan dominating power. Delta central especially the urhobos are always striving to move whatever it entitled to the state capital ( Asaba) to Warri/Effurun. Whereas Benin city is a full fleshed capital, Asaba isn't.

He was a confirm ethnic bigot and if the Midwest didn't leave he would have forced nonsense Yoruba culture on us
