id911:Otedola ke? That one na mafia. I am even shocked someone is comparing Otedola with Dangote. No one knows how Otedola made his billions (that is even if he is worth billions). I am also of the opinion that Yar'adua was the most sincere president we had. He tried to correct some wrongs. |

Obasanjo was one of the worst presidents in Nigeria’s history. He instituted corruption on a very high level. Smh. |

wirinet:One of the many ways he makes his dubious money is through the fraudulent fuel subsidy regime the government is currently running. They will import let's say, 20 metric tons of fuel but would write 50 and collect subsidy money for 50 running into several millions of dollars. Anyone who believes Nigeria is consuming 55 million litres of gasoline daily needs to have his head examined. They inflate the figures to collect subsidy money from the Federal Government. They work in consonance with those in NNPC, DPR, PPPRA, etc to defraud the government but sadly, the current government is dumb |

The OP and many of the commentators like him, must really be a young man to say that people started knowing Dangote in 2002! When you greatly succeed and become when known, many ignorant people wrongly assume that you started your career/business when they started hearing about you. Dangote was into trading of commodities(like Flour, Rice,Zuwo Sugar etc) betweenand Kano since the 1980s. His phenomenal rise came 1) Around 2001 when his major rivals, the Vaswani brothers were arrested and deported by the Obasanjo's administration for economic crimes. This paved the way for Dangote to enjoy near Monopoly in the business 2) The transformation of his core business from trading to manufacturing in 2002 when he aquired Benue Cement Company, Gboko and merged it with Obajana Cement, Kogi State to form Dangote Cement with it's subsequent listing on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. |

Stopped reading the fiction before I got to that point, so the OP follow Dangote around to know who he sleeps with? Asquare84: |

Don't mind them, their hypocrisy is raised to power-10. All these write-ups against Dangote and Otedola is borne out of ENVY and not patriotism or morality! wirinet: |

id911:I agree with you except the redded quote. You talk as if the subsidy regime started with this government, or that Otedola made his billions during this regime. The subsidy scam is well entrenched in the Nigerian environment, and cannot be tackled unless we stop importation of petrol. The marketers/NNPC would simply blackmail the government and stop importation and selling of the product if they don't succumb to the marketers /NNPC. And that would cause civil unrest and possibly bring down the government. |

Godsfavour78:Okay, i believe the story, i only mentioned not having Anything to lose, because some people would say, I am hating for believing the story. ![]() You are correct, i didn't think anyone on here would he smart enough to Notice. that the idea of believing the story because i wouldn't lose nothing is illogical. Most people on here see things as either black or white with or Against, tribalistically without thinking rationally. |

id911:Bode George too,the most powerful PDP chieftain then in the Southwest was promptly taken to court and found guilty for corruption in the NPA. You only have to look at how he promptly declared openly his assets and that of his family and also prompted GEJ to do same then, and compare him to the fraudster we now have, who made so much noise about asset declaration, but promptly hid behind legal and technical guises,in order not to declare his assets publicly. Look again at the subsidy issue.YarAdua reduced prices and yet subsidy payment was at a manageable level. Further,he initiated the amnesty program and carried it out honestly. Everytime I remember YarAdua and compare him to Buhari, both from same Katsina state, one with no propaganda of integrity or being non corrupt and the other with a full PR machinery that sold Nigerians on it,I just conclude Buhari is a textbook case of the scam 101,fit for study in universities. |

good revelation, if this thing is true, than obasanjo,is bad. and the duo needed to be investigated, but unfortunately, buhari, who is running a primordial government, cannot do it. |

Sir Loius Odumegwu Ojukwu, Sir Arthur Eze, Francis Authur Nzeribe, Sir Emeka Offor, Coscharis Maduka, Clement Ibeto, Chris UBA and Innocent Chukwuma were non- Hausas and all got Government patronage and/or support. MyVILLAGEpeople: |

wirinet:Most sincere by miles. The cabal that took over his government towards the tail end was likely because they sensed his failing health. In all decisions he took while still active, you just had a sense that this is what the president wanted, for the best of the country, and he didn't mind who was involved or not.His were also decisions you felt was borne out of a man that could read and analyze issues on his own,get inputs, read through them and finally take a decision for the greater benefit of the country and populace. The 2 others after him are have been at best scams of progressively increasing proportions. |

horsepower101:No crony capitalism is different from getting govt to your side. All capitalist economies have intense lobbying for govt ease of doing business that is different from govt patronage and vested interests! |
| Re: The Fraudulent Nigerian Forbes Billionaires. by horsepower101: 2:30pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
tuniski:Even at that, the end result of lobbying benefits sectors of the economy which the lobbyist are interested in. Its rare in developed democracies to see government make rules just for specific individual or individuals. Imagine there are 20 people selling cement, then government makes special rule that benefits only 1 individual out of the 20 and kill the remaining 19 because of the advantage the government gave to that 1 individual. This is the problem with Dangote. |
| Re: The Fraudulent Nigerian Forbes Billionaires. by tuniski: 2:39pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
horsepower101:That is unlike capitalism it is vested interest. Using laws to confer advantages on individuals is a feature of socialism than of capitalism. |
| Re: The Fraudulent Nigerian Forbes Billionaires. by horsepower101: 2:46pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
tuniski:Ok, you can call it what you want. At the end of the day, it is not right. Especially for a developing economy like Nigeria. I rather Nigeria produce 10 thousand millionaires yearly because favorable and non partial policies than to produce another fraudulent billionaire who specializes in currying favors from government. |
| Re: The Fraudulent Nigerian Forbes Billionaires. by wirinet(m): 3:32pm On Apr 28, 2019 |
tuniski:Sorry to say, but you do not understand the characteristics of strict capitalism. It is socialism that attempts to level wealth disparity by trying to discourage monopoly by a few wealthy individuals. Capitalism makes attempt at this by taxing the wealthy more and enacting strong anti trust laws. Even at that, capitalism is struggling to rein in the few powerful rich. How do you think Jeff Bezos was able to amass close to $200 billion in less than 2 decades. What about Facebook and Microsoft, European and US governments had been trying to rein them in and not kill competition by various fines and punishments, but to no avail. People like Dangote use their huge pockets and size to stifle completion. It's a classic business strategy which even China employs to kill smaller businesses. DSTV employed it to kill local cable channels. Because of the economies of scale, no one in Nigeria, if not Africa can compete with Dangote in terms of Cement, Sugar and Salt. When cement became very expensive during the obasanjo regime and it made his government look bad, Obasanjo simply appealed to Dangote to reduce price and cement fell from N2,800 to N1,500. I agree it is dangerous to allow one man control so much of the economy, but what can we do, when our national assembly is only interested in constituency projects, instead of enacting anti trust laws. By the time Dangote refinery is operational, we will depend solely on one man for our lives, ie energy, food and home (cement). |
