I could have ran my own ads on Facebook but Facebook refused to approve the ads.

advertising on Facebook, Instagram and Co is good but most times these adverts get to the wrong people and you end up earning 'likes' rather than making sales. These adverts feature on peoples' timelines (who might not even have a need to buy a laptop so they end up liking the picture).
I think it's better you run such on your fb page and then run paid adverts on sites like jiji where u know that most people come to look for items to buy. You can also build your page on fb or Instagram but it takes time and patience.
