kaen1317:one of the reasons I consider Jonathan a failure..He could have opened up those SS and SE ports but he didn't. Now buhari has done it for the north. |

alphaNomega:This is how it works. The containers will be shipped to Lagos, then they will be transported to the north. The govt will bear the cost of transportation by rail to make it attractive |

MetaPhysical:It is the duty of the FG to reactivate the 6 or 7 seaports in eastern Nigeria, We have no need for our billionaires to build new ones. |

Lol. Funny man. They are still using the port and goods will be cleared in Lagos before unward movement elsewhere. |

mathewLonger:Stop writing nonsense. Onne, Calabar and Warri ports are there but overseas logistics companies prefer using Lagos ports because they have lots of customers coming from that axis. It's just like blaming FG because Akwa Ibom international airport does not attract foreign airlines. Stop the blame game...FG, although has its failings, is not responsible for why freight companies prefer Lagos ports |

mathewLonger:Leaders in the SS and SE have no political will to open up those 2 ports. That is the problem. Most recently GEJ was president for 6yrs and did nothing. Ekwueme was VP for 4yrs and also did nothing to those ports in terms of opening them up fully. Now, some northerns have worked hard within 5yrs to open a dry port, you are here complaining and insinuating nepotism about FG supression of the SS and SE. Anyway, what do I know, as long as Lagos roads are gradually decongested of heavy articulated vehicles. I am happy. Peace!!!! |

macIB:All ports in Nigeria are owned by the Nigerian government and they are the ones that shutdown 6 or 7 seaports in eastern Nigeria. This has absolutely nothing to do with political will, yoruba politicians never needed political will to build the Ports in Lagos |

| Re: I’ll Tell Niger To Use Kaduna Port, Not Lagos – El-rufai by Nobody: 6:43am On May 08, 2019 |
mu2sa2:Has nothing to do with piracy also. Rather FG shutdown those ports by themselves |

The SE and SS regiion needs a functioning Seaport capable of ferrying very large vessels as a matter of serious urgency Lagos seaport is not sustainable anymore. |

Stop saying what you don't know. My sister works with a shipping company and it's not what you think. Firstly SS ports are too shallow and large vessels cannot berth there hence the need to go through Lagos ports. The government could've dredged it to make it much deeper but they obviously haven't cared enough to do that. Secondly lots of the places you want to ship from do not have port Harcourt on it's list of destinations so they simply won't ship to PH port. Did I mention the higher import duties for the pH ports? The government is responsible for these reasons I gave. They can ensure that it is fully upgraded to international status but deliberately won't due to their nonchalance. SoNature: |

PrecisionFx:There are no seaports in South Eastern Nigeria. Here are the list of seaports in Nigeria. Apapa seaport (Lagos State) Tincan port (Lagos State) Warri port (delta state) Calabar port (cross-river state) Onne port (rivers state) Port-Harcourt port (Rivers state) Piracy and militancy killed most of the ports in the south south region. |

NkayStory:The SS has many seaports, it's just not being utilised. The SE cannot have a sea port simply because there are no seas in the SE. What can be built are river ports. Building river ports to the SE is a bit complicated. You need permission from communities down the delta to dredge the river. Abacha had problems with Ijaw communities when he attempted to dredge the river to onitsha. Furthermore, the river would need periodic maintenance, ie periodic dredging and removing of debis from the river to allow ships sail through easily. The tiny stretch of water between the ocean and Apapa ports undergoes constant dredging. You need a long term serious maintainable plan to operate and maintain a river port deep inland. |

mathewLonger:I think you are the one playing tribal politic here... As we speak calabar seaport is working fine... The reasons why most importers don't want to use it is because it cost more to clear goods than it lagos counterpart. And also there is ready market for your goods which buyers will take the transportation cost. |
