inasmuch as harsh as it sounds, majority of people don't pay at all or don't make their full payment after being treated on compassionate grounds. The hospital could run down if care is not taken because she needs those funds to cater to her personnel and stock up. A pity we don't have a good health insurance for such cases. I have been at the receiving end of it and it is usually my nurses who have their salaries slashed when those people abscond. By law you can't even keep patients in the hospital to pay before they go because you would be guilty of hostage-taking. So, some hospitals prefer to be safe than sorry

In USA this nonsense can never happen, once anybody is rushed to the hospital treatment starts especially if its life threatening situation. To stabilize the person should be the priority.

If everyone is given treatment and leaves without paying, how will nurses and hospital staff be paid their salaries at the end of the month? Will you tell them "life first"
How will you pay oxygen suppliers? Will you tell them "life first"
How will you buy fuel to run generator? Will you go to fuel station and tell the attendant "life first"
How will you replace used consumables to use for new patients?

If only you see how wicked some patients are. I've experienced a case where after a patient was treated without deposit, when it was time for him to pay, he couldn't and wasn't allowed out of the hospital. You know what the relatives did? They hired thugs who invaded the hospital and beat up hospital staff and took their relative out. You think such doctor will treat without deposit again?

It's painful to see a family who claimed they don't have money to pay you for the delivery you carried out for their wife, slaughtering a cows a week later for dedication and child naming.

The stampede occurred at a viewing center after a student felt something crawling on his leg and, thinking it was a snake, raised a false alarm which made everyone take to their heels.

How will feel if you lost your brother, sister or any close relative because the person that brought them could not make a deposit. What if it is you the doctor and the person that brought you had no money to deposit.

As a doctor you should know that life comes first, others are secondary

How will you feel if you lost your relative after rushing him to the hospital with cash on you but was rejected by the hospital because there are no consumables to use for him (they got exhausted and no money to replace), no oxygen (they're even owing oxygen suppliers already and they've refused to supply until debt is cleared), no power (no money for fuel), staff are not around dues to owed salaries being owed, all because people have been receiving treatment without paying.

This issue of absconding without payment doesn't only affect the hospital, it poses a threat to future patients too.

It's not only doctors that deal with life

Lawyers should also offer their services free to avoid people been sentenced to prison or even death due to lack of funds to hire lawyers.

Mechanics should fix and maintain cars for free. Up to 5 people and even more can die in a car accident due to break failure because the car owner didn't have money to pay the mechanic to fix and maintain the breaks . In this case, the persons mechanic is the murderer.

Market women should give their goods out for free. If anyone dies due to hunger, all the market women around are the murderers.

Engineers should offer their services for free to fix potholes on roads. If anyone dies from an accident caused by those potholes, the engineers are the murderers.

All building material sellers should also offer their materials for free to fix the road potholes. If anyone dies from an accident because of those potholes, these sellers are part of the murderers too.

Instead of you to recommend solutions like compulsory health insurance and ways to recover debt, you're calling doctors names.
