Like I’ve said and I will always say, we can pretend and deceive ourselves— there’s nothing illegal in doing so.

The reality however, isn’t pretentious. Sliding into the state of the world poverty capital has real implications to the middle class and the proletariats at the least. Being ranked the worst police in Africa has consequences like deaths from SARS. Being in the top 5 countries of the failed states index has real consequences like the deaths from herdsmen and banditry.

We can deceive ourselves if we want. However reality is reality.

I am better off now. So many of my friends.

A friend of mine who is into business and was just coping around 2014, is now a multi millionaire now, yet because of his affiliation with PDP, he wont stop criticizing the govt. One day, I asked him, if the economy is so bad as you claimed, how come you have so much patronage in your business. And now you have brand new cars, whereas in 2015 he had one old small car. He smiled.

And you I hope you are not one of those IPOB supporters?

dont mind idiot people they think is only them that live in Europe. In Europe nothing is free, I mean nothing is free. You pay for everything you get. Even in Switzerland you don't flush toilet after10pm, if you do you willpay penalty for that. They government give you money with the right hand and take it back from the left.

At least the govts there give with the right hand. Here the Nigerian govt takes with BOTH hands and gives nothing in return.

Today is the 1st day since we saw light. Nationwide system collapse. In 2019?

We are not talking about people like you who were practically jobless in Nigeria. We're talking about someone who was earning millions of Nigeria monthly (a rich man) & abandoning that to relocate to a place where almost all your income goes to paying serious bills as you live from paycheck to paycheck!
The guy dey craze!
Not all goes into bill if you do not take on too many debt on credit. The primary ones you can't do without are mortgage/rent, phone, electric, gas, water and property tax or condo fees. if you are renting, gas and water might be inclusive in your rent.

Not everone lives paycheck to paycheck. If you earn good income, one can still save a descent amount.

However, for the op to earn that descent amount can take some time. It could take years or months depending on his profession. Canadian employers are not like the best paying in the world.

If op indeed earns 1m per month in Nigeria after tax, that is indeed a lot of money in Canada if we do straight up conversion i.e 250 naira to 1 cad. That is like 4k after tax which places him around the top 15% earners in Canada. Out of that 4k, living expenses can gulp 2k to 2.5k out of that amount. He made it clear that he was not after money though.

Well what works for A might not for B. Canada is good but very soon he will realize there is actually no perfect place. When it comes to security Canada also has it shares of gun violence. The job market here in Canada is tough and as competitive as the job market in Lagos the only thing is there is dignity of labour here hence people settle for survival jobs to pay bills. Survival job is good o bt as Nigerians we are well read and love professional jobs . Sooner or later you start to tell yourself am better than this and then regrets sets in.

But like i said different strokes mehn. If you are the type of person who loves to do the same thing every day, good road, electricity , boring life , predictable life Canada works just fine.

But if you are the type of person who looks forward to the challenges of each day then Nigeria is for you.

When i compare both having worked both professionally in Canada and Lagos, i choose Lagos.

The best you can do is give your kids that other option.

Supper story. With that kind of money, you can live the best life ever, afford the best health care and give your children the best right here in Nigeria. The guy to me is very myopic.
All he needs to do is to invest well or start up his own company.
the worst crime you can commit to humanity is to give birth to your kids in Nigeria, expect there is no money

What I noticed about these mentally drained idiots is that they are just bitter people who feels they can attack anybody online...I never earned 1million and the thread was in response to a guy who said people who earn 1million in Nigeria are leaving in Canada...the thread was only to justify why,and to enlighten the general populace.

One idiot who is an illegal immigrant in Germany also come here to say bullshit, you want to compare people who owns a Canadian PR??do you know what status that gives you ( Sure it doesnt make you rich, but it sure doenst make you poor)it gives you access to a million things...if leaving Nigeria for Germany has not changed you and you still have these myopic and stupid thoughts that most people who travel abroad do so because of the landscape and snow...then you are irredeemable and you are no different from old men in your village!

One mum even said my eyes will soon clear...meaning he already wants me to fail, but he never mentioned alot of success stories, recently an Ibo man was voted in as Parliament member here in Alberta after spending just 10 years in the country...but I came to Canada because of snow...I have never seen shallow minded as these guys!I was cry cry not for me but for the kind of parents who raised these lots! If you guys are a bunch of losers without visions, dont think everybody is like you...Nigeria as a nation can never move forward if people like this exist in our society and this is where the problem lies!

Another low IQ with short vision said we left Nigeria to be a 2nd class citizen...this actually made me laugh, the question I have for you is that...are you a first class citizen in Nigeria?can you boast of 2million in a year in your account?do you think first class Nigerian citizens get time to open Nairaland account and then yab people they dont know?Nigeria first class citizens buy newspapers to know about what's going on in the country, they dont waste precious time coming here to read threads....I can categorically say....I mean boastfully,I am better than you when I was in Nigeria, and I am still better than you here in Canada....if you dont stop this illiterate mentality and stop thinking like a progressive human being..I will still be better than you in 5 years time!

The madam that says she stays in Lekki and doesnt know what insecurity means in Nigeria...I am really disappointed that a lady that will gave birth to future leaders think this way...Is it not the same Lekki that cultist killed themselves last month? Please stupidity is infectious and I pray you dont infect your husband and kids with it.

In life,we all made decision whether good or bad and we have to live with it for the rest of life...its my decision and whether it's good for me or not why should you now commit suicide and call me names for it We truly deserve our leaders, a concerned citizen left a country for his own sanity and you all are mad about it...deep down if they ask you all do you want to live a better life, you will say YES....is Nigeria the best place to get it....we all know it's a NOOOO but someone who left for a better country is foolish e pele o Mr.Wise and Mrs.Wisdom....I pray a day will never come when you will appreciate why I did what I did..

And lastly,I really like people who are sensible and gave constructive criticism without resulting to abuse and name calling...you are wise enough to know why I wrote the thread and you never shy away from the truth and the obvious problem facing our country..Nigeria is still our own, and there is no amount of other country's citizenship that can change that...it is still our home.
I came to Canada to be successful and to give my children a better life which the Nigerian govt has failed to give many people including the ones who automatically become sad and triggered because of thread..and God willing I will achieve it. Ameen.

I pray for Nigeria everyday to get better the thread is only to state the problem of the country and not to paint it badly...infact the image of the country is more damaged than what my own thread can add...ONLY GOD CAN HELP NIGERIA,WE ALL KNOW THESE EXCEPT A FEW IDIOTS WHO THINKS THEY LOVE NIGERIA THAN MOST OF US! IREE OOO

Everyone's destiny is different.

But if you have the opportunity, relocate. Even if it is for the experience.

Even with a big salary, Nigeria is a place not fit for human habitation. Everyone that thought they had it good in Nigeria were amazed at life on the other side when they visit. Iron sharpens iron.

Nigeria dulls the brain.

Hmmmm....so the guy got PR in two months. Wow! ... been in Canada for one month and the FG has done soooo much for him. Did he go as a refugee?? ... and one month he is already burning the bridge he just crossed?...Is he working?...or living off those who are? No doubt.... security is the biggest problem for both the rich and the poor.... but with the amount he was earning he can afford to relocate to a safer area. He is writing all of this but does not know what life has to offer him in Canada. Is all good to say trying to pave the way for a better future for his kids...but isn't that what the rich do when they send their kids to school abroad? To me...he wanted to live abroad period... that's ok...but there is no need for all this low talk.

He made a comment here. Search and read his commen and then, advise yourself. And if the Canada and other Western country is an eldorado it is, I wonder why thousands of them are jostling to apply for jobs in Nigeria here..

You mention paying bills but is there really any problem with that? Is it a crime to reside in a place where things work? From the events of this year and previous years, I cannot blame anyone for relocating.

I remember you made a comment praising the UK and the system where folks can move up the economic ladder and wished the Nigerian government does same even with the postal system. What changed your thoughts?

He just got to Canada and is still carried away by the beautiful environment. In about 2 to 3 years, the reality of what he has done will hit him straight on. At the end of the day, it's not about the amount of income you're making (in Dollars or Naira) or the beauty of the environment you find yourself in but instead the amount of your income you're able to keep after all expenses are taken care of. Just like other Canadians, he might end up living from paycheck to paycheck and paying the unending cycle of enormous bills. Welcome to Obodo Oyibo.

I really wish to know, is it wrong paying bills? Paying for something that works? Middle class Nigerians pay double for the same services and amenities that you might want to mention with even lower quality. And if it's that bad for folks there, why have you not returned? I really don't get it.. Someone decides to relocate for good, yet s/he is criticised by folks who reside there but have blatantly refused to relocate to Nigeria. Surprisingly, you commented on the Lagos Badagry Expressway thread of not being able to reside in Nigeria, yet you believe someone's plan's of relocating from Nigeria is bad?

And please, it's not everyone who gets stucked in the system of paying bills (which in itself is not bad), some go on to become entrepreneurs. We're talking about an emigration debacle that has seen even rich Indians and Chinese doing same and you believe it's a bad thing?

I really wish to know because you cannot just keep critiquing folks' decisions yet decide to remain instead of doing the opposite.

Living in the most elitist residential area doesn't make it the safest.... as he pointed out despite having a police station shouting distance from his residence. Who knows... kidnappers probably made the same area their home.... he living amongst a den of thieves and didn't even know.

Bro, he's definitely not going to be doing any top paying job for years to come. Where does he want to see that 4k after tax? He wan steal am? The jobs that'll pay him such cash are probably dentistry & maybe medicine & it's not even easy to be a licensed foreign dental/medical graduate in Canada!
It's even more difficult than the US. He con even get a whole family wey him carry follow emigrate which means triple spending!

He will probably never buy a house in Canada. In Nigeria, with 1m a month & beta planning, in a few years, you go build very quality house.
Anyways, na him know.
Tech, nursing, IT jobs etc would pay 4k and more after tax. Much depends on career path and company. Doctors earn much more than 4k. I mean family physician could earn up to 10k after tax. Specialists docs even earn way much more.

However 4k and above after tax is still alot of coins in Canada. Like I mentioned earlier, earning such amount per month pushes one into the top 15% earners in Canada.

Credit is actually easy to get in Canada. You can buy (on mortgage) a house within one year after landing in Canada. Maybe not the half a million dollar home but a starter home or condo.
