Nigerian lady in Texas earns 6.9 GPA, becomes first black valedictorian in school's 125-year history

A Nigerian female student named Tobechukwu Tobi Phillips recently made Nigerians proud by breaking all barriers to becoming the first Black valedictorian in Alvin High School’s 125 year history. She outdid herself by earning a 6.9 GPA on a 4.0 scale. The school located in Texas, USA, was first established in 1894 and integrated with African-American students in 1965.

For the first time in the history of the institution, Tobi Phillips earned a 6.9 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. Tobi earned A's in all the AP courses she took during her four years in the school. This placed her at the top of her class. Out of a school with approximately 2,800 students, only 86 are Black student. Despite this, the Nigerian lady worked her way to the very top. Due to her excellent performance, the Nigerian genius received the Full-Ride Forty Acre Scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Austin.

It is the most prestigious scholarship offered by the school. In fact, out of 4,000 students, only 16 were chosen. It was not all a bed of roses for Tobi Philips. For one, she had to deal with a number of challenges and jeers from her peers. But, she managed to brace all these odds and achieve her goal. Apart from being an A-student accademically, Tobechukwu Phillips is also a decorated volleyball and track athlete. She is a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Rho Kappa Honor Society, the president of the National Honor Society and an AP ambassador.

Presently, she is set to attend the Nursing School at UT in the fall. She plans to one day own her own clinic as a pediatric nurse practitioner. As a valedictorian, Tobi had a useful word of advice for other youths like her

You got me.

Why always us?

Why do Igbos excel in a merit based society?

I suppose that's why zombies are so scared of an Igbo man leading this country.

But "oji ihe nwata welie aka elu, aka fuwa ya ufu, o wetuo ya".

Being successful is a normalcy to my people especially on individual basis . I am not seeing it as a big deal... Some of us that brag about it do that to spite those who have been spreading the propaganda that they are the most educated and enlightened tribe in Nigeria even when WAEC, JAMB, lifestyle ETC are showing how they are competing with NE and NW..
Should I start discussing about number of Igbos that have won election in diaspora ?
It's a topic for another day.. All thanks to social media and also for exposing lies mgbatti mgbatti people have sold for decades which they didn't succeed anyways by painting themselves what they are not . So when you see them showing their envy towards Igbos, it's understandable. You envy and struggle to catch up with people that are above you. Just watch how they would invade this thread now like vultures to continue with what they are known for like the ist clown that quoted me that said that the celebrant is not Igbo, that he's a foreigner that chose to bear Igbo name grin grin grin.
This will tell you how daft they are.

Tell me where ngbatimgbatiii are better than Igbos ?...
Is it about numerical strength they lied to be the second largest ethnic group in Nigeria until CIA exposed their ewedu statistics in November 2018.?

Currently I know the problem of Igbos, which every sane tribe is battling with their own internal problem and we are working towards solving that Issue by God's grace.. And once the issue is fixed, the rest will become a history ..

As for that issue of presidency, personally I am less interested in the presidency. Nigeria and Nigerians can keep decaying for all I care ..
Igbos should preserve their genetic talents and innovations for Igbo nation which is inevitable.
Nigeria and Nigerians dont deserve it...

I was expecting the igbo Amaka crew to get an euphoric high, and I am not disappointed. The mere appearance of Tochukwu in the name of the girl and boom, euphoria. No further question ask as to whether she is actually igbo or not. I never knew igbos are surnamed Phillips. They did not even bother to ask further what grading system was used where she scored 6.9 GPA out of 4.

This racist or tribal profiling of foreign citizen, just because they bear a resemblance of igbo name would one day cause problems for the igbo nation. Instead of celebrating the achievements as an American feat (the girl might not even identify with igbo), they promote the girls achievement as a black igbo feat. How, do you think the Americans that gave her the opportunity to feel? I have never seen captions like whites are superior to others, because of one or a few white people's individual feat. Neither Asians, Indians and even Arabs. But some igbos have this psychological need to prove superiority based on individual efforts of others.

You must really have a very low sense of self esteem, if you only feel special because of the individual feat of another person you have no idea of.

I have a little nephew bearing my family name, who got the highest JAMB score last year, and I don't know how that would make me feel special

You all have been f00led!
It is not possible on a 4.0 GPA scale to make a 6.9. Not possible my people.

This scam report is suggesting a student in Nigeria can score 150% on a academic grade scale of 100%. Is that possible in Nigeria? If its not here how is it possible anywhere else?

When will you celebrate your own, or are you saying you don't have any personal achievements worth celebrating?

And who tells you she is one of your own? Does she even know you exist?

Celebrated by who and for what? I hope it is not for extra ordinary feat as regards the oldest profession.

Who told you she is your fellow igbo? Did she tell you she is igbo or you just ascribe igbo to her? You guys are in the habit of allocating tribes to other people.
